Personally, I think this is a positive move for the industry no matter what terms were negotiated in the purchase of Mojang.
This may be the first step in getting rid of fanboyism that has plagued and hindered the industry. It should not matter what platform you own, you should be able to play the games you want to play. Whether it is Uncharted, TLOU, Mario, Zelda, Halo, or in this case Minecraft...
I would love to be able to only buy one console device and...
But, according to the chart, the Wii U has badly outsold the PS4 for the past 8 weeks. Looks like the PS4 has lost all its momentum in Japan and the Wii U is king going forward...
There are three strong sales areas for consoles...
USA/UK, Mainland Europe, and Japan.
Sony is only winning in Mainland Europe. Its funny when fanboys say X1 ONLY won in USA/UK. The reality is that Sony ONLY won mainland Europe.
They are second in both USA/UK to the X1, and second to the Wii U in Japan.
And no, they aren't outselling the Wii U and destined to take over in Japan... If you look at the sales, Wii U is han...
It is not a matter of "if" a slim is under development. It is "when" are they going to release one.
This is all a natural part of a console cycle. MS designed X1 to be "safe" because of their RRoD issues last gen so it is big and bulky.
They are or already switched over to an updated processor that is cheaper to make, so there will be a slim. And usually two years into the cycle is a good time to release one.
I would think a large portion of people who would like to play PS games and don't have a PS console are probably Windows and XB gamers.
So, by not building a PS Now client for Windows the service really isn't hitting the mark.
I don't think they are over-priced. Sony has to run the servers that power the service, they have to have people manning those servers, they allocate physical data center space for the servers, and the infrastructure has a cost of being on the internet.
To me, the issue is more about whether the service makes sense at all...
If the games were all new releases and there were exclusive games to PS Now it would probably draw a following. But since it is re...
I disagree.
I think the whole concept is shaky.
I don't think it is a bad deal for the service they are providing. They have to run the servers and pay for the constant data, etc.
But, the concept of streaming a game I may already own on a device is kind of dumb to me. Sure I would be able to play it on any device except Windows, but I definitely wouldn't use it on a 4.3" phone... Tablets at 8-10" are borderline... So, th...
Actually its not...
Assuming a month of a tester is 160 hrs (4 weeks of 40 hours) they may have had 12.5 testers for a month.
I don't think that is a lot for a game that probably a quarter of a million hours of development.
VR is over-hyped.
I have Oculus Rift.
Used it for a few weeks and now it sits on my self of electronics I've bought because they were cool, but have no real practical long term use.
Personally, the things I want most are a portable X1 and some sort of compatibility hardware to play 360 games on X1.
How is MS struggling? They have sold just as much this gen as they did last gen at the same point.
The result was 80 plus million consoles sold over the gen. I would hardly call that struggling.
That kind of view of the world is long gone... A company that really cares about consumers caters to as many of them as possible...
Look at MS buying Minecraft. They are going multi-platform with most of their stuff including MS Office...
Sony, just doesn't get it... They can't expand their market by selling to people who are already Sony customers. They need to broaden to Windows as well. Even Apple gets it with iTunes on Windows.
At least the SP of Halo was playable during the issues they've had... (I know, because I've played it)
DriveClub was a completely broken mess...
It shipped with a small amount of content, no weather effects, and an online that didn't work at all. Not to mention the free version still has yet to see the light of day.
The only thing that was really broken on Halo MCC on day one was online. And even that was partial on day one.
I think that $20 / month is a fair price for streaming games in an unlimited manner.
BUT...
$20 / month to stream games that have been on the market for several years is not good value unless you never played a bunch of the games to begin with.
The product and its economics just aren't there to support this service yet. Games have to start releasing exclusively on PS Now for it to gain value. Why would someone subscribe at $20 / month f...
Really the issue is about game quality on the retail side. To date, Sony's published games at retail have been less than stellar this generation.
The sequels have been more of the same, they've re-mastered a game that was just over a year old in TLOU, their new IP Knack was only OK, and the new IP DriveClub was probably the largest launch disaster of a AAA game ever.
Sony publishing has to wake up with The Order and Bloodbourne. Both look like solid...
That's bad. They should make sure the product is fully working before putting it into these types of championships/tournaments.
I think they have done a lot to fix it, but it obviously is not there yet.
I think you missed the point. There are people who game solely in the XBL world just like the Steam world.
My suggestions are specifically for those people. I know Steam has achievements, I think it would be nice to cross buy, and I know PCs are real computers that can do anything (literally)...
But, I game in the XBL world and want it to be as expansive for my gaming needs as possible.
Things I would like to see...
1) Xbox Achievements in PC games
2) Cross-Buy for PC and XB games (Buy on PC and you get the XB version, buy on XB and you get the PC version)
3) Full XBL functionality available on the PC
How do articles like this keep getting approved? Networks are up and down lately... We get it...
You will get your usually Sony and MS trolls for comments and the rest of us just move along.
PS: I am on Xbox One and everything is fine...
The Wii U is not misunderstood by gamers. I have one myself but it is my second favourite console behind the X1.
The issue with the Wii U is that gamers expect a full online experience now-a-days and the Wii U doesn't have near the online features as XBL or PSN. Also, gamers expect trophies/achievements in every game and the Wii U does not mandate it. Also, gamers expect very strong social features that are not in the Wii U.
Then, there is the console ...
Have you actually played Halo MCC?
I experienced more issues in the Halo 5 beta than exist in Halo MCC as of their December 22-ish update.
