I am not sure 8K will be all that unviable in 2-3 years.

Really, the resolution of the TV that is required is more to do with its size then anything. During black friday and after Christmas sales I noticed that 4K TVs are becoming dirt cheap. $500 will get you into a 4K 55" now-a-days. It won't be long before 8K TVs are in the $2,000 ranger for a 65" at current rate and many TV home theatre enthusiasts will buy 8K TVs sending the price to more reasonable ...

2020 shaping up to be a great end to this generation and start to the next generation.

Old games?

DMC5, The Outer Worlds, Gears 5, PES 2020, World War Z, Rage 2, Blair Witch, Crackdown 3, Age of Empires I & II definitive editions, and Dirt 2.0....

All games from this past year and are available on GamePass. And it seems like MS keeps getting the games quicker and quicker. At the start it definitely was full of older games, but this year it has really surprised me how quickly they get recent releases.

Hardware sales for this generation of consoles are half what they are last year plus they are incurring upfront R&D and manufacturing costs for the next generation of hardware.

I am not as concerned about a new IP as I am just having a bunch of really good games. I don't get why people think it is so important to have a new IP. Nobody is complaining about Uncharted even though it has 4 mainline games and a few side games. God of War has a bunch of games and people still look forward to the franchise.

And for the record they already have announced a new IP. Rare's Ever Wild. And we already know there is another new IP coming from The I...

LOL. A video game artist is working (Probably as a video game artist) on a new game. Not sure how that is news.

In other news, I started a new software development project to start the new year (Business software, not game). I have been doing this for over 25 years.

It should not be based on whether there is 1 game or 50 in the series, it should be based on whether they can make a great game.

I agree with what you say for sure. And I will add that 90% of independent games start on PC. People seem to think they start on PS. But, if you look at the list of independent games on PS, a large majority of them were on PC first or simultaneously.

I look at console gaming as the easy button of gaming. Plug it into a TV, sign on and download games. No messing with hardware and configuration of the OS. That is the attraction. As with anything there are pros and cons...

That is ridiculous. A lot of these sites are very small and don't get any real advertising money. Seems to be there is a lot of brand fanboys in the media....

I don't know how many articles I have seen with the following themes but they seem to be really prevalent:
"PS has all the best exclusive"
"XB GamePass is awesome"
"PS needs GamePass"
"PS is (as it has been every month this gen pretty muc...

@Tross
There are a lot of people on this site that seem to care more about game console sales then actually playing games.

I found this quote interesting:

"Overall, the revenue of $120.1 billion in 2019 was up 4% from $115.5 billion in 2018. The 2019 revenue included $64.4 billion for mobile games, $29.6 billion for PC, and $15.4 billion for consoles"

I find it interesting that this site focuses on consoles, but PC is double the revenue and mobile is 4 times the revenue of consoles. There are a lot of people that think consoles rule the gaming world.... And they a...

All it says is that PS4 and 360 pretty much sold at the same rate over their life cycles in the US.

For people that care about console sales this may mean something.

What is with all these GamePass is awesome articles?

I know it is good. I subscribe to it.... We don't need endless articles restating it.

Video games are distributed on blu-ray currently. There is nothing to stop all the console vendors from getting together, coming up with a common spec, using a common operating system and shipping every video game on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo consoles.

The movie industry has done this with blu-ray players. There is no reason why it can't be done with video games. There is absolutely zero benefit to the consumer to have multiple video game consoles. The benefit...

Every game should be available on every platform.

Whether it is GTA, RDR, Halo, Gears, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Uncharted, Horizon, TLOU, Forza, GT, etc. Great games should be enjoyed by all gamers regardless of gaming platform.

The analogy I use is that when you buy a DVD/Blu-Ray player you can't just watch Universal movies. You get to watch all DVD/Blu-Ray movies. Same with record labels and CD players. Gaming is the exception not the rule with th...

How is it a waste of time if it was enjoyed?

I agree with Wasabi. Crackdown was definately no GOTY contender, but I really had some fun with it for a few days. And it was part of game pass so i didn't even have to shell out money to enjoy it!

Yet another reason why gaming is great. The diversity that this game gives PS owners like me is awesome!

Yup we get that you have no interest and probably hate MS which is why you felt the need to jump in and make boring ass predictable comment.

Business models and distribution methods change all the time. If anyone believed that gaming would remain a physical media based distribution model and developers/publishers would stay on a business model that cut them out of the used game sales and rentals they are truly delusional.

Developers/publishers complained about the used and rental market since the start. They tried to work on getting a cut from these retailers. These retailers ignored them... Who is getting ...
