Because the only reason to buy a new console is because you can't play the new games on the previous one anymore.

Completely moronic.

Can't wait! I played Lode Runner and Jumpman a lot as a teenager on my Commodore 64!

@cd1
Exclusives have been part of game marketing since the start. That should change. Specific HW configurations do not result in the best games. What makes great games is solid budget, talent, and time to create the best story, sound, graphics, environment. game play, depth, and breadth.

There is nothing in God of War, Uncharted, TLOU, Forza Horizon, Mario, Zelda, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, etc that could not be done on another console or PC with a similar ...

In the first year, it will not matter. Dragon Age Origins and Destiny were the consensus GOTY's in 2014 and both shipped on both last gen and next gen consoles.

Great games aren't about their usage of hardware, they are a total package.

As the gen progresses the power of the hardware becomes more a role in great games, but at the start of the generation I doubt there are any games that truly utilize the full power of the hardware and therefore ca...

On PC, you just need the store software to get the games and stores are free to download by anyone. So it doesn't matter whether it is Epic, Steam, Windows store, etc. You can still run the store and games on the same hardware.

On console you only have one store and that is the console vendor's store. It would be nice if console vendors would be more like PC!

You make it sound like Sony relies on hardware sales for a profit. That is not supported by facts. With the R&D, testing, and marketing of new consoles, by the end of the generation hardware is more or less a break even exercise for all three console vendors.

Where they do make money is on store royalties, subscription service, network services, and game sales.

There is no justification for the gaming community to have to buy specific hardware to ...

You are assuming that the games will not take advantage of the next gen when played on next gen consoles. This is 2020. There are literally billions of PC combinations yet games can take fully advantage of the different hardware now. I am sure devts got this figured out.

You statement was true before 2010. We live in a much different time now.

So, saying that you can only play certain games only if you buy a specific console is pro-consumer? Please explain how this is pro for all video game consumers? It may be a pro for the people who buy the console. But, for me I bought all three consoles the last few gens because i like Mario, Halo, Gears, Uncharted, TLOU, Forza, GT, Zelda, Metroid, etc. It was not pro consumer telling me I had to spend $1,200 to buy three consoles plus accessories, and network subscriptions so I could enjo...

Please explain how games that have shipped in the first year of new console generations have been so innovative that they could not be played on previous generation hardware.

2014 - GOTY Dragon Age Origins and Destiny.... Both shipped on previous gen hardware.

It wasn't Killzone, Knack, Ryse, etc. They were multi-platform games on both next gen and past gen hardware.

What facts back up your assertions that games shipping on next a...

LOL.

Sony says E3 doesn't match with their vision....

In the article ESA says the vision is:

"E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world"

Not sure where the vision doesn't match up.

Pixel count makes sense as TVs get more affordable at larger sizes.

Anything below 42" HD is usually good enough...

Anything less than 70" 4K is good enough...

But as people start buying TVs 70" and larger, 8K will make sense. I have a 75" TV at home and 4K looks OK, but 8K would make the TV display games a lot better. (Too bad my TV isn't 8K... LOL)

Why is this bad? Really please explain why this is bad for the consumer?

Sony is shipping Dreams, TLOU2 ,and Ghosts this year on current gen consoles, it is highly likely that their big entry for PS5 games will be Dreams, TLOU2, and Ghosts updated to use the new console capabilities rather then a bunch of average launch games. In the PS3 and PS4 launches there were no large AAA games that rated highly at launch. Same with 360 and XBO.

Just because Micr...

I am not sure that if Sony doesn't attend then the future of the show is at stake.

The show should be bigger then one vendor. There are a lot of publishers that go to E3, And both XB and Switch will probably be there. So, maybe Sony should show up.

This next gen I intend only to buy one console rather then three. With streaming services available on PSNow and then xCloud later this year the need to buy more than one console is done. I will just stream one or the other on my PC.

As for Nintendo, I have a Switch but the games and additional hardware required has turned me off as too expensive.

So, I am down to either PS5 or XSX. I will probably buy XSX as my primary gaming platform for multi-plat...

LOL. I see the forums and gamers keep saying that MS does not support its older platforms well, then when they announce something like this gamers jump on and say the new XSX is DoA.

Really just a bunch of brand fanboys where hypocrisy rules the day. Guess they have nothing better to do then jump on forums and talk about how their brand rules and all the other stink or spread Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) about consoles they don't even take seriously without ever...

I could say the same about PS4 and XBO. I see the weekly releases of independent games on the platforms and it is 95% shovelware....

Looks like 650 games released on PS4.... The would put games worth playing at about 32... 400 for XBO.... That would put games worth playing at about 20... Seems about right to me.

Since the spread of independent games the shovelware on PS4 and XBO has dramatically risen. I get that people want the creativity of indepe...

Yes and No.

Yes it won its generation. by a long shot. Wii U and XBO were not very impressive when the generation of consoles are aligned.

But, if you include Switch.... It has already beaten PS4 in Japan. And if it can continue its pace with the new PS5 and XSX releases it may end up beating PS4 world-wide eventually.

Personally I think Switch should be tracked in this next generation with PS5 and XSX. Which means they have a big ...
