Because the only thing that holds Vanquish back is than it's not for everyone, and the length was a constant bitching theme.
It's almost perfect, but has a few flaws. Hell, I don't even like giving 9s easily...
What I was trying to say is than reviewers usually don't really enjoy games because, most of the time, they feel OBLIGATED to play them.
Playing a game FOR FUN and playing a game BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO OR YOU WON'T GET PAID are two different things, silly.
One is enjoyable, and the other isn't. And, I would say, if you don't enjoy playing games, you ain't really a "gamer".
Ah, whatever. There are some reviewers who ...
Reviewers normally have an obligation of playing games, even the ones they dislike.
We only play games for fun.
@avengers1978
Really, define "gamer". It's someone who likes gaming and enjoys the hobby, that's all. Reviewers aren't real "gamers" since, most of the time, they just DON'T enjoy many games and are much biased on their opinions, as well as different factors as marketing and how much money the ga...
Interesting.
Then again, why is it on the PSP? WHY?!
The battles get a little, LITTLE more difficult after a while, and the costume powers (Hell, the costumes as a whole) is somewhat well implemented. On the downside, quests can get a little boring and the battles still lack some challenge, and hell, if you lose them you re-appear right where you died.
I'd say it's a game with its flaws (Mainly the lack of challenge and some flexibility on gameplay), but it's so charming and so great you can overlook them and have ...
Silly. RPGs are based on Pen and Paper RPGs, wich didn't had any of this deep storyline or dialog tree bullshit. All they did was being dungeon crawlers, the purest form of an RPG, and the only choices you could find there were:
-Run away from monster that will kill you, or
-Attempt to kill monster that will kill you.
So, in other words, your statement of "Choices makes a game RPG" is nothing but false.
Now, Gears Effec...
They actually were talking about dumbing down this one, too, for the sake of their oh-so-dear mentally challenged customers.
PS: Bioware, I didn't finish Dragon Age not because it was too RPG-ish for me, but because IT WAS HELL OF A BORING AND UNINSPIRING RIDE.
@OneSneakyMofo
Fair enough, but for what I played, I couldn't stand it anymore. Guess it just didn't click on me like it did on other people.
Ah, who am I ...
They got enough for their goal, wich is something to be more than happy about.
Now, this makes you wonder why some publishers expect to sell millions of copies, when with these numbers Frictional is more than happy.
Although I share the same feeling- this is a game that should have sold a ton of copies. It's not like it's an expensive game, either. Pretty cheap, in fact.
"The story actually starts with a solid premise but falls apart thanks to poor character development and terrible dialogue. I am astounded that someone got paid to write such garbage."
B-But I liked the characters and dialog ;_;
Sure, there's no LOLDEEP stuff, but Sam being badass and Burns being badass too is awesome. 'Sides, the faceless Space Marines actually got a personality here (Talking about the side-characters that always die.)
@Paracelsus
Indeed, my guess is that SEGA didn't had SUPER-HIGH-HOLY-GOD-THIS-MUST- SELL-4-MILLION-COPIES expectations.
@tacosRcool
I doubt it, as well, mainly because the game's something we didn't see in a while. Hard-as-hell- arcade-like gameplay in a third person shooter? I don't think kids like getting their ass kicked.
@Baka-akaB
Yes, that is right. The game probably didn't cost ALOT...
I'm assuming it sold okay/well in America?
Now THAT'S a surprise! Although I feel many people who wanted it already got it Day 1, and those people who are somewhat interested in it will wait for a price drop or something.
I'm quite sure sales will be lower than Bayonetta in Japan, since those guys don't like Westaboo games, but hell, I hope it sells somewhat good enough.
Ah well, I'm still enjoying the game, so I guess tha...
I'm gonna grab my generic character waifus and punish them-
"but it can be used on monsters."
...C'mon, Nippon Ichi! Ah well, a Succubus it is, then.
Only one guy (On PS3 scoreboards anyways, last time I checked) has beaten the game on God Hard. If you unlock anything after God Hard or not remains a secret- and there's a rumour than you obtain God-Like guns after beating ALL the challenges. But it is just that, a rumour.
What comes next after Challenges and God Hard (If anything comes next...) remains a secret or not. Hell, those two modes will take you a LONG while.
Tried God Hard a while ago- it'...
It's probably the most "hardcore" game we've seen in some time.
Although I can see why some people won't like it (difficulty, excuse plot, pokes fun at everything, and incredibly fast-paced)- wich is why this is a somewhat niché (If not a cult-classic) game.
Yes, I do realize that. Still, look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s shooting. Now THAT'S an Action RPG shooting WELL DONE.
@Hudahudahuda
It is not only the graphics, but the fact that the animations could AT LEAST BE DONE BETTER.
But hell, I should say, it's just Fallout 3's premise and presentation that could have AT LEAST BEEN DONE A LITTLE BETTER. Hell, I should say, it's more like GameBryo's Fallouts that simply aren't app...
Although this is the way it should always be, in my opinion. Except they should replace the "Meh" with an "Average" alongside the 5.0 score.
Anyways, leaving that aside:
Can't wait for the imminent Call of Duty: Black Ops perfect review with EDITOR'S CHOICE and other stuff.
Now that WILL be hilarious.
Anyways, reviews are always opinions. Even when they shouldn't be.
Too bad I am not really interested in buying when it releases.
I'll try it out someday, sure, since I loved the first one (And didn't really liked the second one..), but I'm not terribly exited for it.
8 usually means "Great".
@abczby
Oh, bro, you consider a "hardcore" gamer?
If you truly were one, you would simply try out the game regardless what reviewers say, and see if you like it.
I'll tell you what, I've enjoyed greatly a fair share of games reviewers considered "average".
Oh, and one last thing, on a NORMAL scoring system, 5 would mean run off the mill, average, ...
If anything, New Vegas fixed what I hated about Fallout 3: Bland dialog and retarded storyline, and replaced it with brilliant dialog and an interesting plot.
Still, then I realized what I hated the most of Fallout 3 wasn't the dialog or the storyline, it was the goddamn engine and gameplay. I mean, god, I'm not even a graphics whore, but c'mon. At least fix the shooting.
But I still see it being somewhat awkward- compared to the superior standard controller, at least.
Eh, I think it'll depend on if you like the Move or not. Thank god they give you an option to choose whatever you want instead of saying "dis 4 moev aloen lol".
I personally will play it on a DualShock 3. I just see it being better on it- and I don't even have a Move to begin with, so yeah.
Then again, I don't know. Move ...
