"but the gameplay and story was fantastic."
"and story"
Get higher standards. Seriously.
"Games are serious business, and if you're having fun that means that this game was clearly made for children, and you're above that."
Bwahahahah. Incredible article.
If you don't want a combat based on stats, chances and numbers, stop playing an RPG and start playing an action-adventure game. Those have what you're looking for.
Nobody wants to pay 60$ for a Choose your Own Adventure book with anime drawings.
Alternatively, Sony usually doesn't allow them (Emphasis in "usually", as Aksys is actually publishing a VN for the PSP here in the U.S.). Perhaps the same applies to other platform holders, excluding Nintendo to some degree; at least with the DS.
And, I'd imagine the lengthy process of translation proves to be another obstacle.
How was the platforming "abysmal", honestly? Hell, even the director of the game said that the platforming was more reminiscent of ye goode olde days since he was tired of platformers that were automated as hell (you know, the kind where you only press X and the character makes the jump perfectly- of those where actually falling is harder than completing the section).
About the graphics, they only needed anti-aliasing. But, then again, it's on a console.
The homicide cases were probably some of the most dull sections in any videogame I've experienced up to this day.
Not to mention, even after those, the gameplay itself was pretty mediocre, lacking, repetitive and simply tedious. At first it's pretty interesting, but that feeling quickly disappears. One would think at least the context of the cases would make them not as boring, but such is not the case- it stays "meh" throughout the whole game.
Actually, the Atelier fanbase also has a decent female following, at least in Japan.
Whilst the fanservice part is indeed right, it's not like it goes beyond the swimsuit/hot spring events you see once a playthrough.
But who cared about graphics back then when we had charming sprites?!
Really, however, I prefered sprites over the 3D character models FFVII featured back then. Hell, I still like sprites over 3D up to this day.
On topic, however, I do believe that FFVII was, indeed, overrated. Then again, I didn't really like any Final Fantasy game outside IV, VI, Tactics (And Tactics Advance to some degree), and the first Crystal Chronicles.
Uncharted 3 gets attention thanks to Uncharted 2, mind you. Undeserved attention, too, at least in my opinion.
About Dragon's Crown, it gets attention not only for its sexualized characters- but because it's Vanillaware, a developer many love. Some just choose to go for the former and even criticize it for that, so you have yourselves to blame for it, if anything.

Shootan'
Shootan' errwhere.
Either that or sequels.
Correction, Wind Waker LOOKS great in HD:

Catherine doesn't have Japanese voices, for one.
And, second, what's wrong with giving players choice? I'm personally fond of English dubs first and foremost, but I'm aware other people differ with my opinion; why not give them what they want, as well?

"The Last Guardian"
Give me that time machine, mister.
"MGS4 + ending"
Not quite.
No, the twist is that said tits are in glorious 3D.
Amazing, I know.
These, and the artbooks. Don't forget the artbooks!
Read the article first, bro. The writer mentions that she turned off the levels for said very reason. She got what she wanted out of the game without the UGC.
Her issue is that the UGC feels forced into the game, and out of place. And I completly agree with her, in fact, most people wouldn't even touch the UGC was it not because you were required to play a few and make one for a couple of trophies.
As she said, it's just unnecessary.
This. Really, this. inFAMOUS 2 ended pretty well, both in the Good and Evil endings. Don't screw that up.
Honestly, though, the reviewer just pans the game because "It's 2011", and, not to mention he forgets that Aksys: 1, didn't make the game, they only published it Stateside, and 2; the first Record of Agarest War game was created in 2007, far before the port of FFT or Tactics Ogre for the PSP, and this one is basically a version of that one with far less grinding and much better pacing, alongside some tweaks in gameplay.
Oh, and let us not forget that this ga...
"I just hope there is a 3rd."
Finish the game. They either they ruin the endings and do some asspulls for the sake of money or leave the IP alone, like they should.
