How the hell you go from the original Diablo to this, I do not know. Progression is painfully streamlined, and gameplay, therefore, just a bore; skills are preset; attributes are preset; Diablo II has more graphical detail than this; runes have little variety; I can go on and on.

Part of the budget for this game (or rather, part of the budget of the company who made it) was from a loan the founded took off the state.
As for benefits, paying the money back aside, it did help provide more than a few jobs (450, or so a few sources say), which was the main reason they lent the cash.

Nonetheless, I can derive enjoyment out of shitty games. Doesn't make them good.
The thing is that, if you compare this to other games of the same kin, you'll find the level of polish in Dragon's Dogma to be far superior than the one in those.
Just look at Skyrim, the most popular example, and compare that with this. The difference is huge.
