I think the drugs have destroyed this guys ability to think logically.

To start with he's hallucinating, I have never heard that the advantage of Steam is this "So you won’t have to get off your ass to change games. The bane of lazy gamers everywhere, and one great advantage Steam has over the consoles.".

Then he argues "Buy the game used, and yeah you can play the campaign with the disc in the tray.". OMG putting a disc in is so last ...

Yes you are bored and you do need attention.

Your critism was unduly harsh. The author clearly states that not much is known about nextgen and that his article is strictly his opinion. If you dislike articles about people's opinion perhaps you should refrain from giving yours.

I disagree. To a lot of gamers graphics do matter. My problem with the argument that if graphics matter get a PC, is that the PC is still often limited by current consoles, games are developed to the lowest common denominator. There is also the premise of better AI and more immersive worlds which on top of improved graphics gets me excited. I believe gamers will jump aboard the nextgen train in droves.

I believe in the author's thesis that consoles should be more accessible to indie developers but that does not mean demolition of the walled garden. He talks of the success of iOS, the App Store is a walled garden meaning Apple regulates what apps are and are not available for sale. The video game crash of the 80's was caused by the lack of a walled garden. The market became saturated with low quality games and consumers lost confidence. They stopped buying games because they were sic...

I think it's only meaningless if both Microsoft and Sony try to use DRM and block the used game market. If only one console does this retailers will let every consumer know and will push hard for sales of whichever console allows them to continue trading used games. PC gamers have had no choice at times other than to accept DRM. If console gamers do get a choice I think a lot of them will choose the DRM-free option.

Third paragraph of the article tells you why.

Federal Government regulate the classification board and introduced the R-rating but state government legislate the laws, for example films can be X-rated but only the ACT and NT allow them to be sold.

I was one of those people that bought a PS3 because I thought that was the only place I could play a number of games. When some of those games went multiplatform I was like "WHAT! That's why I bought an expensive PS3". Wasn't long though before Sony started pumping out impressive new exclusive IP. After that I was happy I'd decided to stick with PlayStation.

I'm curious to know, did Sony own any first party studios in the PS1/PS2 eras or did they sta...

I realise that you're trolling and I might actually envy your all mighty PC if only there were exclusive PC games worth caring about. You should go hang out on a PC hardware forum if that really is your interest.

Thanks for the link.

Was a good, informative article with input from Timothy Lottes regarding next gen graphics. Timothy Lottes is the developer of Fast Approximate Anti Aliasing (FXAA) which was used in Skyrim, Batman and Battlefield 3.

Now I know why the PS3 and 360 can produce great graphics on what PC elitists would refer to as antiquitated hardware. I have little doubt that the PS4 and next XBox will graphically impress even the biggest PC fanboys, even...

To the author: Commander Shepard was the protagonist not antagonist.

Excellent article and I agree with most of what was said. As an older gamer I feel the only thing missing from a lot of games is an engaging story. A lot of highly rated games get most aspects right (gameplay, art, and sound) but sadly lack an affecting memorable narrative. I'm glad Cage is pushing the industry on this aspect, I feel it'll inevitably get there but with Cage and his less vocal supporters help, a little quicker.

I have to disagree. Although it can be argue that what constitutes a great story will differ from person to person, I'd argue that apart from The Walking Dead there are no DLGs with story of memorable quality. Sure Journey and Limbo are great games but not for their story like Uncharted, Red Dead, Mass Effect etc. are.

I here what he's saying as I'm a married gamer with a young child. Difference is I don't mind that a 10-15 hour game takes me about 2-3 weeks to finish. As he says shorter games will have to be priced accordingly, at the moment anything less then 10 hours i steer clear if until its heavily discounted. I play less games than I used to but don't enjoy them any less.

Survival to me is about having to make the most of limited resources. The authors classification of Mario as survival-action seems an oversimplification. Just based off what I've seen of TR and TLoU I'd put the former in the action-adventure box and the latter survival-action. Regardless I like both genres and can't wait for either to arrive.

You might have a point. After all a lot of Christians are taught to have "faith" from a young age, to believe illogical things are fact. Perhaps this leaves them more susceptible to persuasion as adults.

They might do this but I don't think it'll be target at core gamers, unless that core gamer is like me and has young children.

Your argument makes sense and could well happen but what I'd like to know is how many of those GameStop members buy new games day one and then trade them in. As you say people that buy used are of no interest to MS and Sony however, I would posit that loss of the used market could lower new game sales. For example, I personally rarely buy used games, if the safety net of trading in was gone I'd be far more careful with my purchases, likely consequence will be buying less games as I do...

I had a look at the actual scientific paper and it looks solid. Unfortunately what the media will ignore is the authors statement that "Although one cannot determine whether violent media cause criminal acts of violence (e.g., rape, assault, murder)... one can determine whether violent media cause an increase in less serious forms of aggressive behavior (e.g., blasting a person with loud, unpleasant noise through headphones) and on aggression-related thoughts and feelings (e.g., hostile ...

I'm disagree with your reason not that you couldn't care less. I'm not excited for AC4 because AC3 sucked, I couldn't care less about POP and BG&E.
