This is what you're missing. Microsoft announce they passed 70 million based on the Quarterly report. Sony's same 70.2 million is from that exact same quarter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
If you need more proof here you go.

Sales are down for Xbox360 -22% as oppose to last year. You think they mean nothing but they actually mean alot. This are the numbers from Xbox360 strongest market. US is only thing keeping Xbox360 in the game. Well over 50% of Xbox360's LTD sales are from America. This means less people are buying Xbox360 than there were last year and more people are buying ps3 than compared to last year. Xbox360 has reached saturation in America.
@nukeitall
Black Friday week is from November 18th- 24th. So yeah that 750k is added in there. Xbox360 sales last year were 1.7 million.
@DK286K,
I didn't intentionally forget it but thanks for bringing it into the discussion. But like the subscription based $99 Xbox360, the $199 ps3 is was limited too. Compared to last year, Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3 helped propel the 360 last holiday season. Halo 4 (got my copy) boosted sales but Black Ops 2 fell a bit...
and I can attest that there is no difference between the two services. Actually PS plus offers you free full game download and Full Game trails. Hulu Plus and Netflix interface on the ps3 are more simplistic than the Xbox360 counterpart. I have yet to see Microsoft do an MMO with Xbox Live even though they planned on with Marvel. DC Universe and Dust514 are being done on PSN even though XBOX LIVE has been around for 10years (PSN only 6years).
to mention that sales for the month of November for the 360 was down -30% compared to last year. Given how the Ps3 performed better than last year during the week of black Friday, I'm curious to see their number for this month. Last year Sony did about 900,000 for the month of November. I hate that so called journalist are forgetting that USA had only an allocation of 400,000 Wii U for launch.

Microsoft sold 960,000 last year during the week of black Friday. They only sold 750,000 this year even with a $99.99 SKU. PS3 actually performed better than last year in the US @ $249.99(the only home console to see YOY gains). Given all it's fumbles, doom articles, (stolen key) hack, and high price point, the ps3 managed to overcome a competitor who at one point had the entire next gen market to themselves. The Wii managed to do it because of it's price point and peripherals. Sony h...

just because Sony reported in November doesn't change the fact that the report, itself, if from July 1st - Sept 30th. Bookmark this comment because Microsoft is going to report mid-January and Sony is going to report early-February. I hope Microsoft has a killer holiday season.
But you don't have to believe either of those. Go crunch the numbers for yourself and see what total you come up with. Sony sold 63.9 (million) at the end of their Fiscal year (FY12 ending march 31st, 2012). http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

has technically passed Microsoft as of last quarter, VGCHartz refuses to recognize them. As of September 30th, 2012 xbox360 sits at 70 million, PS3 sits at 70.2 million. Given that Cyber Monday deals take place online, I bet those numbers are going to huge for ps3 in Europe.
You should do a little fact checking of your own before you try to fact check someone else. Microsoft sold 750,000 DURING the week of Black Friday. That was not a sell of just the one day.

their "internal data". The announcement date doesn't mean when they started and stopped tracking numbers. When Sony announced they surpassed 70 million, everyone thought it was month (two weeks, Microsoft announced OCt.18) after Microsoft announced they've passed 70million. Sony didn't make their announcement until Nov.4 but that's because they released their figures Nov.1. But if you add up the numbers, it's 70.2 million AS OF SEPTEMBER 30th,2012. 4946d ago 4 agree4 disagreeView comment
failing to realize that Xbox360, North America is it's strogest market by far. You don't want to start taking this out of that region because you'll just make yourself sad. Ps3 dominates 360 outside of North America. But let's wait until the official numbers come out next year.
this was the same thing people were saying about HD. Like 3d, I think it would become available via patch later down the line. Just like 3d.
articles all over again. When Xbox360 launch is was $400 for the premium and $300 for the arcade. The Wii U launch price was $300 basic, and $350 deluxe. The author also failed to mention that these were simply ports and nothing else. The developers simply rushed out a product just to say they had something available at launch. I already own a ps3 and Xbox360 so why would I buy a Wii U for multiplatform games? I'm buying it for titles that I can only get on the WII U.
if you read the article, it's really just saying how Sony isn't going to allow Mircrosoft to have a year head start on them again. It's not bashing ps3 or praising Xbox in the least.
@SuperSonic266, IF Xbox360 was better then ps3 wouldn't sell at all in the US.
he was completely serious about that number, just saying. But you're right about the brand. We won't here about Holiday performance until January for Microsoft and February for Sony. Sony has brand power but I believe that Xbox has made a name for itself this generation. I personally, have more faith in Sony's 1st party studios and Microsoft. So this is why I'll probably be picking up a PS4 before and XBox720.
guesstimates at best. We wont have to wait long before the Big 3 release their quarterly reports. Seeing as how VGChartz has decided to take Microsoft's numbers at face value yet remain skeptic about Sony's, has me seriously doubting their "Sales analysis" very much. VGchartz tracking has been know to be off by as much a 500,000 when it comes to overtracking the 360. It also undertracks ps3 200,000~75,000. I can't deny that Microsoft has made themselves a major player co...
