Who cares, they're probably still working on the design, what matters are the specs. Wait until E3.
Add another $150 for Windows, Mouse and Keyboard or controller, plus in order to play Blue Ray movies add that price too.
A benefit of consoles is that you get the benefit of economies of scale.
So PC games thus far have just been HD 60 FPS console ports cause that looked a lot better than Crysis 3
Biggest problem with PS3 was lack of quality online, difficult hardware, and price.
So yeah, Sony has learned from their mistakes and is in a good position to excel this gen.
Option for free online MP...and Netflix, Youtube, Browser, etc.
Live was a good deal 7 years ago when you had to pay $13 for a magazine to get game demos. Times have changed and now it's a rip-off, every other company offers free online MP.
While last time Sony said it they showed pure arrogance. This time, I'd say that a PS4 announcement would be the start of the next-gen (sorry Nintendo but Wii U wasn't it)
As long as there's still free online MP, Sony can have paid Playstation Universe for all I care. PSN plus offers a lot more saving than Live already so I think Sony is on the right track with their online strategy.
Well Nintendo's online is severely lacking and the masses are realizing Live is a price gouge (arbitrarily restricts online MP which is offered free on every other gaming device) so Sony has full rights to go on the attack.
They spent all gen recovering from the hardware design mistakes of Kutaragi and their own myopic hubris.
I'm just not sure if it's "The Empire Strikes Back" or the "The Return of the Jedi".
Cry Engine is not a true next-gen engine.
I'm looking forward to what Unreal Engine 4, Luminous, Fox, Frostbite look like.
Then there will be a lot of Sony hate.
it would be perfect for web browsing
It has no games - sorry Nintendoland is not Wii Sports its a touch screen minigame collection.
Sales will pick up when the real games come out but I doubt Wii U will be very popular maybe another Gamecube with a few million more.
Next-gen consoles must avoid not offering a free Online MP. Go ahead and have a tiered system with premium paid subscribers, but don't place a cash barrier to basic game content like online MP.
I generally regard Valve positively but I think they're too cowardly to produce Half Life 3.
The legacy of Half Life 2 and insurmountable expectations for HL3, which increases as time progresses has made Half Life 3 a guaranteed disappointment which would decrease their brand value.
Nothing would ever match the hype for HL3 and Valve knows it, they waited too long.
I stopped buying COD games a while ago, but it can't be disputed that millions of people really enjoy it, more so than any other game currently. Based on that fact alone I couldn't honestly say that COD should generally be regarded as a bad game, despite my dislike of it.
That being said no one stays on top forever and eventually COD will fall as developers out-COD COD by building on it's valuable gameplay contributions (control scheme) an create something new ...
Epic only has Gears and the unreal engine...and Gears is quickly losing appeal, although it did influence a generation of games. They totally botched Gears 2 with the broken aka can't even get into a match, MP, and Gears 3's facile SP (great MP though) was a huge let down. It's sad when a 30 second game commercial tells a better story and is more emotionally appealing then an entire game. Whoever wrote Gears 3 should give the money back, it's story telling at its worst, the...
The first couple of years of 360 were some of the best in gaming (RROD notwithstanding) It had the best exclusives in gaming, and Live didn't seem like a rip-off because PSN was lacking and I was still accustomed to paying $13 for a magazine to get game demo disc - so $60 a year with all the demo's included seemed like a great deal.
Then 360 totally lost it's way by focusing on casuals and trying to become more of a multimedia device, without Blu-ray or Wifi mind...
Sony has more exclusives than any other core system.
GT
Uncharted
Killzone
God of War
are enough to have a AAA exclusive released every year all gen. Also Last of Us is shaping up to be something special.
...then there's still the smaller but still fun tittles like Resistance and Infamous, which could be reinvigorated by next-gen offerings...and the old PS2 exclusives.
If Crysis 2 on 360 is anything to go by, Crytek acknowledges major bugs but doesn't patch, ever, so who cares how frequent or infrequent the patches are.
FU Crytek, I will never forget the grain glitch. Your user base will fall, just a matter of time. Your engine pales in comparison to next-gen offerings.
Very pleased to hear about the specs and the many of the games looked amazing.
