As much as I like to see MS get a comeuppance, it's still far too early to count them out. Sony screwed up PS3 launch too and it all came out (very) well in the end.

XB1 is still more than likely to sell incredibly well, for whatever (probably dumb) reason. It's much more interesting to me that Sony are getting such a strong start than it is that MS are fumbling a bit. I hope both machines end up healthy at the end of the day.

Well.. Wow! That's going to make a lot of people stop and pay attention. I often disagree with Edge reviews, but I respect how opinion based they are without all the nonsense..

10/10 ... Everyone has to at least try this. GOTYs are going to be difficult for the mags to choose from this year. :D

Ok.. Preorder now or wait for E3 first? Decisions!

It'd be nice to know there was a killer app at launch. Pretty sure I'll enjoy KZ:sf at least.

DOMination got there first, but EAs first big title was Deluxe Paint for Amiga, which was at the time one of, if not the best 2d art package of the 80s. Then they made games for A load if 16bit consoles and computers.

TBH I miss the EA of those days.

Gaming's Citizen Kane moment!? Lofty claim there..

I guess I should preorder. :D

Apart from the fact that the PS3 doesn't do DirectX, and even if they did, DX11 isn't supported by 7 year old GPUs. ;)

Some of this rings true but other bits are the opposite of my experience. I had more faulty/breaking hardware between PS1-Dreamcast era than this one.

My DS3 and Sixaxis controllers regularly fall 2-3ft onto wooden floorboards (I have a 5 year old kid) and have never been damaged at all. I have had to replace my 360s battery pack though.

I had one RROD 360 and one YLOD PS3. I had one borked laser PS1 and two Dreamcasts die. Obviously the 360s had high failur...

.. Non-java based, properly optimised Minecraft on a machine as powerful as the PS4.. Imagine the crazy redraw distances etc. :D

If it has feature parity with the PC version (which i doubt) it could actually be the best version of vanilla Minecraft by far. Interesting times... Which also explain some of the big delays between updates. Well worth it.

This would be the fourth time I've bought MC..

I agree with this. It's interesting to think the post ps4/XB1 generation could be the first without physical media.. If PSN and XBL digital downloads start drastically overselling the hard copies I wouldnt be surprised at a smaller slim, diskless model a few years down the line either. It wouldn't float in some territories, but others would lap it up. I just hope BDs remain an option for a long time to come.

Whatever Apple are working on seems to be more of an immedia...

It doesn't matter if it can buffer it or not.. Anything coming in through Ethernet or wifi is a billionth (made up number but you get the point) of the bandwidth of the data moving around inside the console itself.

Server farms can crunch all they like but games are dynamic and need to work immediately on the fly. There are a lot of circumstances where massive number crunching are great but not for much in mainstream gaming. If it was enabled as default the X1 would be an...

CPUs/GPUs depend on speed and low latency. The cloud doesn't have those things. Having a giant number cruncher in the sky isn't going to help with that. There are a load of things it will be helpful for but you can't have your graphics partially rendered by "the cloud" for obvious logistical reasons.

Lol, using this sort of thinking they can claim the X1 is infinitely powerful as the cloud can be upgraded over time.

Cloud processing is almost completely useless for the sorts of games the Xbox has seen success with so far. Massive resources that can only be loaded through an Internet connection..? None of the stuff they're saying makes much sense yet.

It's very easy to get into, just choose respectable and not underpowered hardware. I stick to Steam for game purchases, then there's very little to it.

A lot of the scary updating and system maintenance nightmare stories are FUD and not at all representative. :)

I don't see any way that it could be more powerful over every metric. It'll be the same as this gen, each machine is likely to have different advantages (if they're playing with similar level hardware)

I'd like them to both be pretty similarly powerful, but I doubt there'll be massive differences in multiplats unless MS target lower end.

Hate to be "that" guy but the clue is in the name.

Doesnt anyone think it odd that all the shots concentrate on one corner of a track and a single ship?

This guy is doing the barest minimum to fake a set wipeout screenshots, and people want to believe so badly they've forgotten to think about what theyre seeing.

Deceit indeed. :D

Saying that, id love a new wipeout as much as the next guy, but if these were real...

Mixelon names the Sun one of the 5 worst "news" papers in British media history.

It'd be higher if we didn't also have The Daily Mail, Star etc, too.

I don't think it's worth trying to engage with people here on N4G.. (although I appreciate that you do this when people bring you/Kotaku up - that Bungie gun photo thing was a blast) It's always just a surreal, paranoid mud-slinging contest here.

N4G conspiracy theories would probably make a good article. ;)

4707d ago 5 agree6 disagreeView comment

I don't think there will be any objective outdoing here. It'd be impossible for MS not to get a ton of media attention at a new platform announcement, but like always they'll both have different strengths.

I'm suspicious that MS will throw a gimmick into the mix that will get a lot of attention but will at the end of the day make little to no positive difference to the gaming experience.

Everyone is using "there" instead of "their" Aaaaaaggghh! ;)

Anyway, this is great news, but I'm a bit apprehensive. The industry seems to be overestimating things a lot lately, probably to encourage investors etc. I hope it doesn't end up like DS3 and Tomb Raider sales where by anyone's reasonable standards they did great, but the money men set unlikely targets, causing a knock on panic effect and even more doom and gloom posts.

Grass.. I love the idea of arguing over grass. :D

What if a brilliant game has atrocious grass, or a terrible game has the world's best grass? I wouldn't call grass a good benchmark of anything either considering the sort of thing the SPUs can chug through (shown in things like flower) ..

Its really more about the full picture, and how many pretty things are happening simultaneously, and even then it's not that important. Lighting does more to s...
