I don't think there's anything special about my PS3 :).
I'm on a 50 Mbit Internet connection which means a max speed of 6 MB/s. With my PS3 I usually "only" get 2-3 MB/s on patches, firmware updates and store downloads, but that still means that even eg. a 120 MB game patch (which is pretty large as patches go) only takes a minute or less to download, plus installation time, but that's usually faster than the download.

As for firmware upda...

"Naturally, there was an update that needed to happen, just like there ALWAYS is every time I turn the machine on."

I'm guessing this guy only turns his PS3 on every couple of months?

In any case, with a fast Internet connection, firmware updates (and they aren't really all that frequent) take 5-10 minutes and game patches as little as seconds or a minute or two for large 50-100 MB patches.

I've read some of their ongoing DCUO post-launch impressions, and that has sounded mostly positive to me, so I'm not sure there's much substance to the suggestions that this might be a negative response to DCUO.
Although they do have different writers of course - and it certainly wouldn't be the first time I've disagreed with the Hilary guy writing this article.

Based on this review it sounds like the 360 version must be quite a bit uglier than the PC version then.

I'm only a few hours into the latter (it has failed to get me properly hooked so far, so other games came along and got me sidetracked, but I do plan on giving it another go), and while the game engine certainly isn't state of the art and the graphics have its fair share of blemishes, overall I think it's a pretty decent looking game, particularly the landsca...

Yes, but not really all that well :). Yvonne is much prettier than Miranda.

Elena from Uncharted also has a face that seems to be quite heavily inspired by her voice actress Emily Rose.
And there also seems to be a little bit of Claudia Black in Chloe.

Or google Elena and Chloe from Uncharted and you might get one :).

I only got to play the beta version for a few hours before Christmas and I frankly wasn't impressed. It was too early to comment much on actual gameplay of course, but it definitely had some interface, camera and performance issues I didn't care much for.

But I've decided to give it a try anyway - and it will be the PS3 version, as I already have a decade of varied (but usually short lived) PC MMORPG experience behind me and I've really been looking forward ...

Supposedly Tuesday worldwide with the exception of the UK and perhaps a few other countries.
I believe most of Europe have changed their release date policy in recent years to include most of the week (though Friday is still the most common day), while the UK seems to stick pretty much solely to Friday.

GameStop here in Denmark has it listed for a Tuesday release, although an online store I use frequently does show Friday - but I believe they sometimes get the UK v...

@Oner "GT is by far the most accurate for it's tracks. Yes even over PC sims."

Some PC sims yes, but nothing yet beats the laser scanned tracks in iRacing where every little bump in the road matches the real track (at the time of scanning). And track side objects is also included in the scanning for accurate modeling and location.

It's a shame they'll probably never have the Nordschleife, even though it's been requested many time...

I'm around three hours into the PC version, but I'm pretty much ready to stop. It's not terrible, but overall it has been doing a pretty terrible job at getting me hooked - both in terms of dialogue and voice acting, story and combat.

If you try video chat from the XMB with the PS Eye, you'll get a fairly bright and clear image, even at night in relatively low light conditions (it actually looks a bit like the image is lit up with whatever the video equivalent to flash photography may be).

The video feed in Move games however - only relevant on the calibration screen for most of the games I've played - seems to range from slightly grainy to a complete mess of extreme yellowish video noise that ma...

I'm a few hours into the PC version, and while it's certainly better than the disastrous first game (I played the 360 version of that one - for a couple of hours until I just couldn't bear the agony any more - I don't know if the PC version was better) it hasn't been doing a particularly good job at getting me hooked so far.

Fairly pretty scenery, decent but uninspired combat system (hopefully it gets better as you unlock more skills, I'm mixing arch...

I'm really struggling to figure out what the hell Mass Effect 2 and Fallout: New Vegas were doing in that article?

Even though the author acknowledges that "the average player will get their hands dirty", that seems like a gross understatement.
Yes, you can opt for a pacifist approach in some cases, but otherwise these games are slaughterhouses - and in the case of New Vegas with delightful gore aplenty.

I loved it - beautiful setting, particularly in the Winter, solid story, great characters and voice acting and gameplay that might have been a tad on the simplistic and repetitive side, but fun nonetheless.

Although with the total amount of kilometers I drove over the course of the game totaling well in excess of 200 if I recall correctly (not much in a racing game, but quite a bit in mostly slow cars on city streets with traffic), I would probably have been crying out in p...

Diablo 3 this year? I'm definitely not counting on that - now that GT5 has been released, I've sort of been expecting D3 to become the next recurring release date joke.
Although perhaps in recent years Blizzard have cut back a bit on the length of their seemingly eternal "polishing" phases? We did get StarCraft 2 last year after all, and a new WoW expansion.

Still, I think I'll stick to expecting a Diablo 3 release somewhere between 2013 and 2...

I'm worse at this than I was at real darts back when I played it regularly many years ago :).
You need a pretty steady hand for this game (and obviously for real darts as well for that matter), and it's really only now that I notice mine isn't quite as much that as it was 15 years ago. Just holding the reticle steady enough to lock onto the target - even when zoomed in - is enough of a challenge :p, and once I throw I often over or undershoot the target, but of course hav...

I'm on my third playthrough of the PC version of Mass Effect 2 (playing FemShep once again of course, without Jennifer Hale's wonderful voice I don't think I would love the Mass Effect series quite as much as I do) - it's easily in my top 5 games in my ~25 years of gaming.

I'm very happy for those of my fellow PS3 gamers who don't also have a gaming PC (or a 360), that they finally get a chance to experience this fantastic game series - even if they ...

I've played the beta for a couple of hours and found it ridiculously hard to get used to.
While I've done plenty of console gaming over the last few years, MMORPG is a genre I'm used to on PC, and even compared to some of the less impressive games there, the interface in DCUO feels a lot more slow and awkward than I had ever feared it would.

In addition to that some of the interface text (such as skill/powers descriptions) is verging on being too small ...

I'm usually also inclined to trust if not necessarily most individual professional reviews, then at least the averaged opinions and scores.

In this particular case however it's like all the major review sites suffered from some sort of collective brain fart of which I haven't seen the like in years - or a strong allergic reaction to a game that makes you sweat, gives you sore muscles and, literally, takes your breath away.

The Fight is at the ...

Looks around for user reviews (eg. Amazon, Metacritic, general opinion on forums like GameFAQs) and you'll quickly realize that the "professional" reviews are extremely out of line with user opinion, more than I remember seeing for any other game in recent history.

The Fight has a few flaws (such as the mostly defunct head tracking), but Move tracking certainly isn't one of them. It's 1:1 indeed, with even your punching speed accurately represented onc...
