Unless I'm mistaken, all the 3D TVs currently on the market support all the different stereoscopic formats in use (sequential, side-by-side, top/bottom and whatever they're called)?
I don't get why seemingly quite a few gaming sites seem to insist on Move being the only control method rather than an option, before they are willing to consider a game a good and valid example of the capabilities of the controller?
Certainly I don't mind such games (I'm still enjoying table tennis and disc golf in Sports Champions on occasion), but there have been quite a few games so far where Move (with or without Nav Controller) has served as an excellent a...
"When attempting to race with extreme precision on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the title, it seemed that the analogue control wasn’t quite up to the task. Incredibly minor adjustments to the racing line were handled fine, as were extreme, last-second “Oh-blast!” swerves to either side, but anything in-between simply wasn’t as precise as one would hope in a racing simulation."
Anyone planning to play this game as a "semi-sim" (I am) will su...
"Ueda was asked whether the game is at all designed for 3D support, to which he replied: “Not really. The game will support 3D but it depends on how much the PS3 has left.”"
Does that make sense to anyone else? I'm guessing something must have been lost in translation.
This was sooner than expected. I played in closed beta for a few days a couple of months ago, but had so many other things on my plate at the time that I never got around to play more.
It was definitely interesting enough to give it a try now that it's been released.
For "proper" sims I'll stick to my PC - iRacing, netKar Pro, LFS, GTL etc.
Shift 1 at its best (and that was admittedly only in some cars) felt almost as much like a "semi-sim" to me as GT and Forza - albeit one with a different and more ferocious feel.
In any case, I tend to love racing games in general - at the moment I'm having a blast with Motorstorm Apocalypse.
The most important thing is whether I like the handli...
GT5 didn't really do that. It only worked in arcade mode, and "worked" is being extremely generous if you compare it to a years old head tracking technology on PC like TrackIR.
Anyway, while Shift 2 may prove to go a bit overboard on the active helmet cam, I suspect I'll like it.
The GT5 cockpit view is a bit too static for my taste, and so is the equally rigid cockpit view in many PC racing sims. And with those that do have "look to apex&quo...
Both games confirmed to be running upscaled 320x180 :p.
That joke aside, I'm really looking forward to Shift 2. Some of the cars in Shift 1 were great to drive (with my Logitech G25) but the overall experience was extremely uneven, with other cars (including what should have been a fantastic M3 e92 road car) feeling absolutely dreadful.
Hopefully Shift 2 turns out better.
I don't think a new console generation sooner (ie. within the next two years or so) rather than later is a bad idea.
If it's going to mean even larger budgets for the already ridiculously expensive triple A titles I can see why it could be a problem for the gaming industry, but rather than vastly more advanced game engines and more detailed art assets (ie. quickly increasing development costs), I'm more interested in running current generation graphics at 1080p,...
But you'll still be stuck with a vastly inferior and crippled experience every time you try to play a (non-arcade) racing game with a gamepad :p.
Edit: Nevermind. I only just noticed you were the guy with the Logitech GT, in which case I wouldn't necessarily feel inclined to use that money to upgrade to a G27 either :).
With the G27/25, the wheel itself - leather bound metal with two force feedback motors - and the sturdy metal pedals with a decent amount of resistance to the brake pedal, give another couple of pretty major reasons to pick this more expensive option over a cheaper wheel.
Don't get me wrong, the DFGT is certainly a great wheel for the price - I loved my Driving Force Pro (the precursor to the GT) in the year or two I had it before upgrading to a G25 - but it's immed...
Don't count on significant price drops on mid and high end racing wheels.
I've admittedly never been monitoring prices closely in the ten years I've gone through three different Logitech wheels (original blue/black Driving Force, DFP, G25), but I can see that the G27 cost around the same, possibly slightly more, than I paid for my G25 back in late 2006.
Edit: Okay, things might be a little different in the US where you lucky guys get most things thrown ...
I'm pretty much just waiting for the 2011 models to hit the stores (the first from Sony have been released, and I think the new Samsungs are coming this month as well) before I'm going to buy a 46" or 50" 3D TV.
I don't care how many people say 3D is "just a gimmick" - my eyes are madly in love with this particular visual gimmick :), both with 3D movies at the cinema as well as the store demos of LED and plasma 3D TVs I've tried over the ...
"[Editor's Note: 2K Sports provided us with a review copy of the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 version of Top Spin 4 boasts very competent Move motion controls, and, while accurate and tons of fun, simply can't handle the deep and subtle range of controls offered by a standard controller.]"
Competent motion controls? Did he play the same PS3 demo I did?
And that last part about not "being able to handle the deept and subtle range of controls offe...
I bought it today despite being less than impressed by the demo (oddly enough they had chosen one of the most boring tracks - both visually and in terms of fun - to include in the demo) and I've been having a blast with it so far.
Many of the tracks (of which there are over 30) simply look amazing and the carnage on some of them completely puts anything Split/Second did to shame.
I really wish I had a 3D TV because this game must surely be quite the showpiece. ...
I'll have to agree with those who are a bit puzzled by the claim that a ruined city and landscape can't be beautiful.
A terrifying kind of beauty certainly - if you let your mind dwell on the reasons it looks like it does - but that definitely doesn't mean it can't be a visually spectacular sight.
It's no different from how a rugged mountainscape can be beautiful, or a barren desert, or the ruins of Colosseum in Rome. Or anything else you can th...
You aren't the only one. I may be 34, but that doesn't stop me from giggling when I read a sentence like that :p.
I've often wondered if surround headphones are worth it.
I'm highly skeptical about sound quality - 7.1 channel surround and built in microphone for $200, less than half the price of my "plain" old Sennheiser HD 650 stereo headphones (admittedly Sennheiser's top of the line model until they released their $1,000 HD 800 a year or two ago).
I rather doubt the surround headphones would even stack up favourably against my similarly priced AKG K601...
It's a damn shame the Move implementation - based on the demo - is terrible and feels like a lazy afterthought.
No 1:1 motion control here like in Sports Champions table tennis, just very basic gesture controls picking up the broadest of movements.
Reportedly Virtua Tennis 4 will do a much better job in this area, properly reading angle, speed etc. of the Move controller. I certainly hope so.
Scores like these are just silly in my opinion.
Sure, DA2 might be flawed in some areas and seemingly failed to live up the expectations of many, but scoring a game like this with a number of fairly obvious strengths (characters and voice acting for instance) any lower than let's say a 5 is almost as stupid as the competely binary love it/hate it scores you tend to see on Metacritic user reviews.
I'm around half way through act 2 and so far I'm probably...
