Sooooo then why limit your deal with Sony to 10 years, hmm?
It’s a good Plan B if your game isn’t selling….
I just question how M$ will output 4 AAA games a year, have 100ish 3rd party games available, and not let the sub price balloon to $25+ a month…
….or start squeezing devs harder in the future if they want a “bailout” for their game that isn’t selling. I bet devs get paid out less for their work if Game Pass started maintaining traction without crazy $1 promotions.
Good catch.
I mean, we’ll see…. $200 sounds about bright, but it’ll be releasing around the holidays.
Unfortunately Sony doesn’t have a war chest funded by the most popular software in office environments globally, but M$ does.
When Sony makes Destiny 3 a PS5 exclusive, then they’ll be doing the same thing as making DOOM 3 an Xbox exclusive.
But they aren’t making a legacy franchise suddenly gated to one console.
Sony makes, Xbox buys.
Then make them…. They had Halo and Gears.
Even DOOM 3, a legacy franchise, you motherfucker…
Starfield was bought once it had a shape and proof of concept. It was going to be finished with or without M$, they already had funding. And if M$ hadn’t done that, then we’d still be looking forward to Hellblade 2 in 2024 as the first good AAA to grace “the worlds strongest console”.
Sony gave Sucker Punch a 6 year budget to make a samurai/ninja game from scratch, and it ended the PS4 era beautifully. And, they do this wit multiple developers that they have a history wi...
@onilink: Sony and Nintendo manage.
And didn’t Halo Infinite cost $500 million?
This is why M$ wants to eliminate exclusives: they are expensive projects with the highest expectations for quality. This makes them inherently risky investments; but apparently riskier for some than others…
Yuuuup, and they think they should be able to buy their way to market leader…
Brilliant strategy: demonize your competitors’ hard work and noblizing your failings with a single wish.

It’s only value destructive if studios still shudder even after using Game Pass as a plan-B.
Otherwise, it’s up to Xbox to curate a library worth at least $10 extra a month, every month.
Like with Starfield…..?
Except Sony actually makes games from scratch, and Starfield was past halfway done when M$ intervened?
Because after the Xbone & Kinect, gamers wanted more games deferred by poorly focused hardware.
They can make it exclusive in 10 years instead…. Either way, the ABK purchase would be THE largest *media* acquisition EVEr.
Idc about RPGs, I skipped Skyrim… so I’d have skipped dragon quest 8, too.
I am fully aware of what I gave up when I chose Xbox:
Sly Cooper
Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
God of War
MGS3
GTA
Shadow of the Colossus
What I gained with Xbox:
Halo
Every 3rd party game looked noticeably better.
And, I would eventually enjoy:
Halo 2 (still my favorite ...
I’m surprised to see the Series S having almost 50% new Xboxers….
PS5 basically boasted that same data point, and I assumed that was fueled by former Xboxers jumping ship…
So who is flocking to the Xbox for the first time, now? Switch kids finally old enough for their parents to let them play CoD?
