Dear NetherRealm: please consider tossing the juggling mechanics, they feel goofy paired with the blood and gore. Maybe try a bone-breaking mechanic, to build on the X-ray mechanic? I want Mortal Kombat to have a heavier feel to the action.

I was still playing X…. I think they release games too often, and underestimate how much people like fighting games with big rosters. Launch one game early on in the gen, and just add DLC for the rest of the gen.

I see these articles, and I can only hope that Ragnorak still wows us. I wasn’t exactly blown away by Forbidden West, but, by that same measure, next-gen-only games like Deathloop and Avatar aren’t blowing my mind either (and I can see where the hardware is allowing new possibilities, they are just believable leaps in capability).

I think the last great leap in graphics was Chaos Theory on Xbox. Outside of that, every other leap was believable and expected. I guess graph...

I agree with you mostly, but I think IW was the game that Call of Duty finally upgraded their game engine. And, I would point to BR games like PUBG as gen defining, since they barely ran on consoles. I’m expecting the sense of scale and draw distances to be what SSDs allow to be upgraded beyond what last gen hardwares was capable of.

I also don’t think the PS3 could run LoU2 or GoT. The former has too many AI details and context sensitive animations, and GoT has too dyna...

I think they are finding that it is tough to make a game that NEEDS the ps5 hardware for anything but 4k and ray tracing. When you can take those 2 graphics features away, and run the game at 30 fps in 1080p on the PS4, then why wouldn’t you?

As long as the ps5 eventually has games that can’t run on ps4, I’m happy. I trust Sony to not downgrade any games in order to force them to be cross gen. I wholeheartedly trust them to simply allow devs to make as much money as they...

I’m not a big fan of Arkane games, largely because I don’t like having supernatural powers in a stealth game. (I was happy to at least be able to choose to forgo the magic powers in Dishonored 2). With that said, they seem to be making great use of the Dualsense. I’m glad Sony paid a studio a check to make sure they got some good support for their controller in its first year. This is definitely a game with alotta potential for it.

It’s the single biggest media purchase in history. It was such a monumentally purchase, it will likely go without equal for the rest of my lifetime.

We’re not just talking about “studio acquisitions,” Phil. We’re talking about one of the largest companies on the planet making a proportionately large splash in the gaming world by financially throwing its true weight around.

Tbh, this is more than a generation overdue. I wish they did this the moment Bun...

I remember that the first person I killed in LoU2 was named “Casey”. The second was named “Kevin”. From there on out, every Wolf was either a Casey or Kevin for me. They’d find a dead Casey or Kevin, and they’d be all like “Oh no, NOT JANE!” And I’d Molotov them from a bush with an audible correction “Right, they were named….CAAAASEY!”

I snapped a little playing that game because they simulated death so tactically. NG facial animation helped achieve that goal. It wasn...

Xbox Live missteps and PS missteps can be discussed in the same conversation?

And Gold IS doubling. I bought a year card from Best Buy, and it gave me 6 months of GAME PASS instead. I called to complain about the code not working properly, and they let me know that those cards aren’t what they are labeled anymore: because Gold costs $10/month now, no other price breaks.

I don’t see the paid PS5 upgrades as missteps. I’d rather pay $10 to have the game ...

I thought MGSV and LoU2 both have the best stealth mechanics. I might break the tie for Snake, because of the quick dive mechanic (such a good addition for stealth). At the same time, I think Kojima would admire how much the little details make stealth kills gruesome instead of cool (I thought this was a goal of MGS games, too. But having enemies use names and get emotional is just a whole nother level that I’m sure he imagined at least for MGS4).

$10 for the upgrade, and $20 for the expansion.

Feels fair to me..

Oh no , I need to pay $10 to upgrade my game with ray tracing and dualsense implementation…./s

I’m much more upset that the cost of Xbox live is doubling without being addressed by M$.

I think it would be fairer to say Sony started a small town that grew into a city, and Microsoft found a metropolis and bought the election for to be Mayor of it.

One has deep rooted connections with every corner of their community, the other has ownership and power of a larger community (but shallower roots). Time will tell if Microsoft’s dev culture has shifted at all since Bungie split up.

Sony will survive because they make the Pixar equivalent of single player games, and Microsoft with Zenimax is Dreamworks at best in this analogy.

You can make all of the money in the world, and still invest it poorly. I hope Microsoft investing in Zenimax and Game Pass will provide financial stability to many studios. That’s just a good thing.

I also hope that they put out something innovative that isn’t just Game Pass. I can afford to buy games, so ...

I’m not saying there aren’t youngsters that still play Halo out there, I’m just saying it isn’t hard to find a few that don’t care about Halo. Back in the days of Halo 3, you’d have to search far and wide to find people of this same market segment that didn’t care about Halo.

Looking at the forest through the trees, there are less trees.

If you want attention for your indie game, then just find a way to subtly imply that Kojima is your secret director.
