Do you have a 1080p TV capable of receiving a 1080p signal?? First of all, most people don't have and won't have a 1080p TV during this console life cycle. Second, most 1080p TV's out today do not accept a 1080p native signal. They accept a lower resolution signal and upscale it. So MS coming out with a new SKU with HDMI support alienates very few people, if any, because most people don't have a TV that supports true HD.

Is that it costs Sony $840 to make a PS3. If replacing the Blu Ray with a DVD player only knocks $200 off of that, then it is still costing them $640 to make it. It will be a little less for the 20gb model, but not much. So even if they did make the switch, they would still be losing money.

in speed and power in the last generation. By merely upping the speed of the Gamecube hardware a bit, they are now farther behind in power than they were last time around. It is good they have such a radically different business model from other console makers, or else they would have been dead long ago.

if both companies are moving towards digital downloads as their primary means of content distribution, then why the hell did Sony start this format war in the first frickin place?? Does it make sense to dump money into promoting Blu Ray over HD-DVD if both will be obsolete in a year?? Sony won't even get back their investment to develop the technology in that time.

That the model and serial numbers and a couple of other lines of information in the picture were black boxed?? That seems suspicious to me. I am beginning to think the picture is fake, like the earlier pic of a 360 motherboard with an HDMI port, but with all the other ports in the wrong place.

I do have a 360 and the gamerscore and achievements mean nothing to me. Why should I care what other people think of me when I go online?? I have two gamertags on my system. One for offline and the other for online. When I go online, my gamertag has 0 points and no achievements. What points and achievements I do have are all recorded on my offline tag. The reason I don't like it is that people get caught up in the race for gamerscore and are pressured into buying more games, games that they m...

Rare is also owned by Microsoft and they are rumored to be making games for DS now. Selling a version of Halo on the DS would give Microsoft a lot of exposure in the Nintendo community and may sell a few more 360's, particularly in Japan where they need more sales.

They will have to release their games in two formats and it will be harder for them to justify including extra content on the Blu Ray versions if most PS3 owners will have a non Blu Ray version. Most likely if Sony releases a DVD version of PS3, devs will release all their games on DVD and abandon Blu Ray.

doesn't mean anything to me at this time. When movies start using the security features that don't allow HD playback without it, then I'll worry. I am sure the 120GB hard drive will be available separately, and likely they will also release one between the 20gb and 120gb at some point.

Gears,
That was a great article you linked to. Sony considering a PS3 without Blu Ray and a Toshiba HD-DVD player for under $200 would really shake things up.

And if MS does...

The Japanese are probably the most xenophobic people in the world. This is no surprise to anyone. If Americans were like the Japanese, their whole economy would go belly up because they wouldn't be able to sell anything here. They need us to keep buying their products a heck of a lot more than we need them to buy ours.

it's just a colossal d1ck waving contest showing everyone how sad your life is that you have nothing better to do than play video games to run up your gamerscore. All it serves to do is ensure that everyone in the gamerscore race will be buying every game as soon as it is released in order to get the points and achievements so they won't fall behind. Maybe that's why the 360 attach rate is so high.

There is no perceivable difference between 720p and 1080p at 5-8 feet away (normal viewing distance). There are also only a handful of televisions on the market that accept a 1080p signal. Most of them accept input at lower resolutions and upscale it to 1080p. Pushing that many pixels around on the screen at the same time is also a burden for the system that limits framerates and can cause choppiness or lag. I'd rather play a game at 720p60 than 1080p30 any day.

but lots of 360 drops. Now tell me someone who hasn't bought a system yet isn't going to look at the prices of identical EA games that look identical on both systems, and not want to buy a 360.

but the way I play CoD is going to be difficult on the small screen of the PSP. I have gotten very good with the single shot rifles in the game, so I snipe a lot. Unfortunately, I snipe so well, I can knock the helmets off the enemies without actually killing them. It really pisses me off to get off three fast shots on three enemies and all I see is their helmets shooting into the air and they keep shooting at me. Trying to sight down the barrels using rifles without scopes is going to be ver...

that they should have been providing to all developers for their system, not keeping it secret for only their inhouse development teams to use. If developers don't know how to get the best results from a system, then that system won't get good original content, it will get ports from other systems, if it gets anything, which is not good for hardware sales. Microsoft recognized this with the first XBox, and gives all their developers extensive training and support to make their games look the ...
