Blu Ray stores it's data close to the surface of the disc while HD-DVD stores it further into the disc. This makes Blu Ray discs more susceptible to damage from scratches, and since the data is encoded closer to the surface of the disc, forget using a disc doctor on a Blu Ray disc or you'll completely destroy it.
