The problem is that people who don't understand the technology, of the significance of scale, feel the need to comment on MS solution.

Sure dedicated servers and cloud computing are nothing new. But the benefits to gaming haven't been fully realized for logistical and economic reason.

What Microsoft is offering to developers is essentially access to free dedicated servers on demand. Traditionally, if a developer wanted to make a game with an online c...

I'm not sure why people keep saying the Xbox live cloud is just PR for dedicated when its already confirmed that 100% of Titanfall's AI is being computed in the cloud...

I could imagine something like halo 5 or Mass effect, being able to actually speak to your AI companion or npc's. having the local CPU resources to process what you said within the context of the game (kinect facial rec could be used to compute tone), send it to the cloud to process a response, an...

Why are folks so focused on expecting graphical improvements from this? Cloud compute is really only useful for additional CPU. That might help with frame rate but that's about it on the visual front.

The real benefit will come from from from offloading certain tasks to the cloud (like titanfall does with AI ) and freeing up CPU for more local computations.

I didn't think the AI was stupid, per se. But their was a lack of variety, and their interactions with each other was predictable. The developer said it himself, they were previously limited to two types of enemies, and seven total enemies on screen. It's tough to have a bunch of memorable encounters with those limitations.

Compare the previous killzone games to the competition. There were other shooters that had more AI on screen, more types of enemies on screen, mul...

It looks like additional power may have solved what I think has been holding the killzone franchise back. IMO, the battles have been uninspiring do to the lack of enemy numbers and variety during encounters. I have yet to see the AI do anything impressive in the previews, but that's likely because they often demo in god mode. I'm looking forward to the reviews on this game.

Watchdog was pushed back, because longer hours would get it to where ubi wanted it.

I've seen plenty of demonstrations with the press present that weren't staged. Members of the press asked to see certain things, and the presenters used Kinect voice features to access them.

@orangepowerz

There is absolutely no reason the cloud can't be used for enemy AI. It's no different than using the internet for a multiplayer game.

How is relaying the decision of your multiplayer opponent over the internet any different than relaying the decision of an ai opponent? Better yet, how is it not better than first processing these decisions on one local machine, then broadcasting it to everyone else, who then had to process it again? This ...

I doubt it will do much for visuals, but it's a fact that they can improve performance in online games. Anyone who games on pc could tell you this.

A typical online ps3 or 360 game would have 10% more cpu for the game if they didn't have to reserve compute for host duties on a p2p game.

In a cloud campaign scenario (like destiny, titan fall, or gta online), cloud compute would mean more cpu savings because the AI, wouldn't have to be processed loc...

Realistic graphics don't matter nearly as much as physics and art direction imo.

Look at a game like gtaV. No one with eyes would think the game looks "real" like beyond 2 should. But it's visually pleasing, due in part, to rockstar's meticulous attention to detail. For example, The way foliage, flags, and sails react to the wind in the boat yard, would look better, in game, than a high fidelity, yet static image.

Not many of these Indie games scream
"Buy this next gen console" to me. I've seen very few that wouldn't be equally impressive on ps3 or xbox 360.

I think the importance of indie support is being over stated at this point. The only indie title that really has my attention at this point is titanfall... and like most of the other indie titles folks are gloating over, it will also be available on pc.

This generation will play out just ...

I just hate when people make comments about the article without reading the article...

A feedback loop is essentially what we humans rely on to learn anything. Sure visual cues are most important when learning how to play a game. So are audio cues... (engine sounds, screeching tires, etc. Haptic cues have a place too. They can provide information about, traction and breaking for example, and at a finer detail than can be had through audio and visuals.

Think ...

I'm having a hard time understanding why this is news.

Since the launch of xbox live in 2002, most games have come with an online and an offline mode. The online mode requires xboxlive, the offline does not. Why would this be any different?

Too young? I've been gaming since the 80's.

If this game isn't worth full price, then none are. You can get 40+ hrs out of the single player and not even get 100%. In a day where most people can will pay 60 for an 8-10 hour game, how can you say gtav isn't worth the money... without trolling of course...

There were over 15 million people playing this game within 3 days of launch. There isn't a single game in history that was glitch/exploi...

Nah, Sony and ms will both sell every console that hits shelves this holiday season. The company that ships the most consoles will be the one that sells the most. They won't have to try to out-promote each other in terms of bargains on a particular day.

However, you will see retailers trying to out promote each other. They are willing to take a hit on console sales, because they make a killing on assessories. Still, retailers don't care which console you buy... Just ...
