Either you prefer the accessibility of console gaming or the more technical but better looking/performance of PC gaming. What did the PSOne offer that made you NEED a console? What about PS2? PS3? For the most part people have purchased consoles because of the games for it.
Each platform has its benefits. I just don't see a bunch of people going from being a console gamer to a PC gamer. Gradually, maybe; but I don't think so.
A more appropriate comparison would be N64 and PSOne. While I preferred the PSOne, it didn't have the same amount of innovations as the N64 unless disc based gaming trumps the hardware and software innovations from Nintendo.
Nintendo is known for innovations, and while they certainly have taken a lot of risks many of them haven't caught on (or been gimmicks). Sony has mainly just pushed the form of game delivery forward, as well as bringing us a wide variety of excell...
Think about it. I make 100 games and sell 50 new. The other 50 are bought used, instead of new. That's 50% of my profit lost. Plus the cost to manufacture those unsold games. It's not the original sale that's important, it's every sale. I could go into this further, but I'll keep it at that.
Also, GameStop buys a game back at an unfairly low cost only to make a huge profit. Used games are far, far from being risky for GameStop.
(From another post I made)
Say I make a game and produce 100 copies.
I sell 50. Instead of selling 100 copies, 50 other people buy it used and I get zero money for it.
Why can't more people understand this?
Movies usually make their money back in theaters - you can't buy a used movie ticket. Plus there are many different widely used revenue streams like TV, Netflix, etc. Plus, when you do go to buy DVD's or Blu-ra...
I don't know. I want to be able to lend it to my friend, but used games are hurting the industry. Honestly, I'd say treat it like Steam except have the ability to lend a game to a friend. If and when consoles don't have used games anymore, we will ultimately spend less on games and publishers/developers will get more.
I'm just worried that any deterrence against used games, even if reasonable, will negatively affect a console too much. I hope I'm wrong, be...

It's complex because, for one, used game sales cannibalize the profit a publisher/developer can make. And all to save $3-5 dollars. Plus, it cannot be understated that because used game sales hurt these publishers/developers so much there will be a strong backing for the console that doesn't support used games - or at least deters it.
It's easy to think, "Hey I buy used games, and I want to be able to trade mine in!" And while you have the right, think a...
To anyone who believes "the infinite power of the cloud" is an advantage for Microsoft, I urge you to read this article:

Basically, Microsoft is making the cloud computing seem like it greatly increases the power of the Xbox One when in fact its nominal at best AND extremely limited in what it can i...
Oh I understand PC gets great deals! Humble Bundles rock! But, that's completely separate from the used games issue. While I don't think Sony will be as aggressive in making deals, I do get the sense that they are going to at least try doing the various themed sales like Steam, as well as a more modern pricing of digital sales.
The issue of used games is indeed a very complex one. Of course Microsoft wants more money. Of course publishers want more money. However, because of the proliferation of used games without any penalties actual game developers are losing a lot of potential profit. It's true that because of renting games or buying used, that some franchises are able to increase their adoption rates. But, sadly, there are games that never get a sequel because it didn't sell well, something used games ha...
I accidentally "Disagreed" with you so I gave you a bubble.
In my opinion, Sony has the best exclusives this console generation, but that's up for debate I guess. However, just because Microsoft throws money at its developers doesn't mean they are going to magically produce awesome exclusive games, especially if they were making Kinect games and the like. The idea that money, not talent, is the reason you believe the Xbox One will have better exclusives than the PS4 is just sad and ironic.
And I have an extremely hard time bel...
Blockbuster still exists? Why?
I've never played Shenmue, so for those who love the franchise I hope it does get made. Though, I will say the fact that SEGA is partnering with Nintendo to make three Sonic games is a pretty weak reason to assert is may be a Wii U exclusive. Either way, let's get this game made!
I just don't see the Wii U dominating under any circumstance. The asymmetrical gameplay didn't catch on like the Wii's motion gaming, so it never will. With new, much more powerful consoles coming it can only compete with a price drop (unless the two consoles are priced too high). The Wii U is just an underpowered system.
The handheld market is different than consoles - I don't think a few games are going to automatically make droves of people buy the system w...
Oh I know. But even before the Xbox One reveal he wasn't shy to voice his distaste for Microsoft - and for good reason.
Haha, it seems it has become commonplace to automatically downvote positive Xbox One comments - err, downvote comments that aren't negative towards Xbox One ^_^
But to address the topic. Here's my stance: Taking games out of the equation, the Xbox One doesn't offer as much as those trumpeting it as an all in one entertainment device would lead you to believe.
Think about it, you still need a cable box to take advantage of the Kinect navigation. E...
"Also, it's not like you cant play the game if you drop connection on Xbox One."
Actually according to Microsoft the Xbox One will do an online check at least once every 24 hours, so you DO need an internet connect. You cannot play the Xbox One without it.
Am I missing something? In what way does Sony not care about those without internet? Please don't lump them in with Microsoft just because they are both releasing new consoles this year.
I'd like to have backwards compatibility, but it's not a determining factor. I'm keeping my PS3 when the PS4 comes out. I understand that people want to be able to play their current gen games during the first year or so when games are sparse, but after that BC becomes a non issue.
