The focus on being an all-encompassing entertainment box means by default Microsoft doesn't put the same emphasis on creating the best gaming experiences possible - just compare exclusives. But even past that the more add-ons, peripherals and secondary tasks the machine has the less output there is for when you want to play a game.

There are multiple reasons why a console, with optimized hardware and software, performs better than a PC with the same specs. One of those re...

Haha, true. At least Australia is changing its policies though. If only it didn't cost an unborn child to buy a game there :/

Consoles are grouped in generations, i.e. the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii are the 7th generation. That's why I said technically the Wii U is next gen. But I also intimated that the Wii U's lack of a differentiating technical improvement over current systems is why so many, myself included, consider the Wii U a current gen console. There are even people who think next gen is purely based on changing the way in which we consume a form of entertainment, and while I don't agree I feel it's p...

To be fair, Dark Tonic Games is a new studio making eShop games. Don't get me wrong, there's truth to the notion of negative stories getting more publicity than positive ones, but there's a difference between a major studio and a new, small one.

Now, not to be cynical here but there is a reason there has been many more negative articles about the Wii U than positive ones :/

The Wii U is technically next gen, but because its specs are basically on par with current gen consoles it's just easier to group it with the Xbox 360 and PS3. Saying the Wii U isn't next gen isn't meant to be derogatory, so let's not freak out because another person said it's not next gen.

Let's not go nuts here.

I'm getting this for the PS4, but I don't expect there to be a huge, easily noticeable difference. Obviously particle affects, the amount of AI characters and their sophistication and other process intensive elements will be better; but I imagine the character models and game textures will be fairly similar. Watch_Dogs looks visually great, but it likely won't show off what the next gen can do the way a game built from the ground up for next gen, such as a 1st party game, could.

A few things:

A) Most writers and editors are not actual journalists, they are enthusiasts. Video game journalism has declined as the web has increased, and more and more it's about reporting the news and sharing opinions on news and rumors. Calling these media people journalist implies they do their own reporting, checking sources, etc. It may be semantics because there are some journalistic responsibilities, but to me there is a difference. Regardless...

I love America, but there are times I wish my country was more liberal like Europe. I'm not cultured or well-traveled enough to know the pros and cons compared to the society I live in; but America is becoming increasingly way too sensitive about anything that could upset even a very small amount of people.

I'm clearly talking about consoles; but instead of resorting to name-calling the way you did I'll simply say if you want to engage in an active discussion, reasoning and manners make it much easier.

If you cannot understand why not developing new IP's is a bad thing for Nintendo from an outside perspective then you are endemic to the problem, no offense meant.

When I presented the Mario franchise as my chief offender in how Nintendo reuses a small amount of franchises I didn't mean to make it sound as if it was the only one. The issue is, for a lot of people who aren't diehard Nintendo fans, seeing another game with the same characters they've seen for ye...

I understand that even though there's a dozen Mario spinoffs plus the mainline series (if not more) - of which there are several subsets - which all have different gameplay types; but at the end of the day it's still DOZENS of Mario games. Mario Bros. came out in 1983, and I'd be willing to bet there's been an average of at least two games staring a character from that franchise. To me that's milking. It may not be Assassin's Creed, but AC isn't a 30 year old franc...

Am I the only person who is able to distinguish between me not liking a game as much as others and me thinking the game's quality isn't as good as others say it is? Plenty of people don't like the Uncharted series as much as the critics and overall scores it has received, but it's undoubtedly a very well-made game.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but just because I didn't like a game doesn't mean it's objectively bad or worse than what other people ...

@Septic for what it's worth, though I'm by no means a die-hard fan of Halo I'd argue that besides Mario, no franchise has been as important to a console as Halo has been to Microsoft.

It seems like Sony understood their arrogance with the PS3, which is still my favorite console this generation, and have taken every step possible to ensure the PS4 will be the best console they can make. I hope the next Microsoft does something different and interesting, but I'm personally glad that the PS4 seems geared towards gamers and game developers.

It's hard to recommend a JRPG to somebody who isn't familiar with the genre or who hasn't liked what they have played. In that regard, I think the original Kingdom Hearts is very palatable because the characters and settings are very comfortable while the combat is real-time yet reminiscent of old school JRPG's. If somebody playes KH1 and doesn't like it, they just will not like the genre.

For what it's worth I'm playing Persona 4 Golden now and it...

@PopRock359 People don't pretend the Wii U isn't a generation 8 console, in fact most people probably don't even know about the specific console generations. When people say the Wii U isn't next gen its because it came out 7 years after a console cycle started and is only marginally better than those consoles, if not worse in some aspects.

The Wii U is TECHNICALLY next gen in terms of its release time frame; but in comparison to the Xbox 360 and PS3 specs it&#...

I don't mind if somebody wants to make a logical article suggesting Microsoft will win next gen, but quite frankly if it were to happen it will not be based on games. If Microsoft hits a homerun with the cable/TV whatever its doing for the next console, then maybe financially they will "win." But comparing the games Microsoft will release (based on track record) and Sony will release (based on track record) will be no contest - especially with the PS4 very developer friendly. <...

@KwietStorm E3 isn't JUST about media and investors (That's GDC) nor is it JUST about gamers (That's Pax Prime, Pax East, Comic Cons, etc.). But, E3 is the biggest and most public press conference for game companies.

Also, even if Nintendo were doing great I'd think it's a bad move to more or less skip E3.

4666d ago 4 agree1 disagreeView comment

But by not having an E3 press conference Nintendo isn't reaching out beyond its hardcore audience, and having most/all of its show behind closed doors means only a small amount of people can actually play games and not be able to fully show what they saw/played.

How is Nintendo smart in this situation? The people who watch every Nintendo Direct and already have a Wii U or will buy it no matter what aren't affected by no press conference other than being disappointed t...

Here's the thing, all those people saying Nintendo skipping the press conference is them focusing on their audience - what that is really saying is Nintendo isn't actively trying to grow its audience but is content to just talk to people who are already Nintendo fans. Plain and simple. It may not be a huge mistake to avoid the normal E3 pressers (though that is certainly possible) but in no feasible way is it smart.

I've said it before, but E3 is just as much abo...
