But as (practically) a launch game on a system that desperately needs quality titles it would have more than paid for itself and maybe gotten itself a new following.

Now the developers are putting it across three consoles and against the end-of-year blockbusters, including whatever Nintendo are going to announce between now and then.

They could have had enough sales and been happy, but they're taking a big risk and I'm not sure it's going to pay o...

Because Ubi are saying it won't impact the content of a game that was due in two weeks but now won't be available for 6 months.

"Hey, this game is done, but you're not allowed it until Microsoft and Sony get it on their consoles as well."

If Sony don't announce the PS4, they deserve it.

These marketing campaigns aren't done by some random guy on the internet. They take lots of people lots of time and lots of money to make. Studies are done. Then they have to be approved by high execs.

If it went through all of these people and nobody went "Shucks, I hope nobody gets the wrong idea about us announcing we're going to show the future of the brand," they deserve to suffer fro...

There's no way it'l be that cheap in the UK. Sony will pull a Nintendo and let the stores pick their own price.

We'd be selling children to get a PS4 if Amazon had their damn way...

That's around $430/£300, although obviously different taxes and local laws will make the price wildly different. I can't imagine it being less than £399 here in the UK.

Which isn't TOO bad a price, considering that the Wii U was £350 for the ZombiU pack. If this turns out to be true and the machine can do a quarter of the things it's supposed to be able to do, this might do surprisingly well.

With that said - people will STILL w...

In all fairness though, Mario is Mario. Aside from adding new power-ups, what can you do to improve upon that formula? They might have been phoning it in for the last few games, but that's because they can't change anything without needing to dodge the minefield that killed almost every other nineties platform hero.

Sly made way for games like Assassin's Creed or (imagine this?) Arkham City. Hell, even Infamous. It's not super professional to judge a game base...

The point I think too many people are missing over this is that this isn't a Steam issue, it's just that Steam are the biggest digital distributor. If they are forced into allowing sell-back, every other digital distributor will have to as well.

It won't be a case of developers choosing whether to use Steam or not, it'll be a choice of selling their games online or not.

@JP1369

That statistic is pretty old now (the article I found on it was from when Tony Blair was PM, so it's AT LEAST six years old, almost definitely closer to ten years) and our violent crime stat has actually fallen by almost 10% in the last year. Going on a larger scale, crime has dropped nearly 29% in the last 10 years - that's based on the latest figures.

Add to that the fact that we count violent crime as anything including violence. That inclu...

RE: Constructive posts - I think the disagree button already has a negative effect on constructive posts.

If you go against the grain of the site - even if you give fair reasoning and aren't impolite or trollish - you're more or less instantly shown to be in the minority, which gives those that reply to you the upper hand in the discussion, whatever the validity of what you're saying and what they're saying.

@mandf

It's incredibly easy to talk to developers. Getting them to talk back on a subject not pre-approved or even getting a reply on something they don't deem beneficial to current products is much, much harder.

I can tell you that researching something akin to an unannounced game or system specs (or even an unannounced feature of a previously announced game) basically boils down to "Is there any credence to this rumour?"

A...

I've written a very long article on this: http://matgrowcott.com/resi...

It's in no way justice for old school Resi Evil fans, unless your idea of justice is that "this didn't appeal to me so I'm glad they've not done as well as they thought they would."

It still massively outsold almost everything in the origin...

At 11% off, my guess is that we're talking high pre-owned sales, which nullifies the need of bringing further runs onto the market (no money for Capcom) and makes the pre-owned price plummet.

Reviews don't have much to do with it. Capcom not giving much reason to keep hold of it - no announced DLC, no real PvP mode, glitches and issues at launch - is probably the bigger problem, matched only with a pretty rapidly plummeting trade-in value.

EDIT: It a...

Sony would rather stick a digital copy of a game on a memory card than make a loss on a console. One costs nothing (or at least very little) but appears to add value, the other actually results in them taking a hit per purchase.

And again - 20 dollar loss but more purchases at 180 is an awful lot less worth it than a five dollar profit but hardly any purchases at 250.

Just as a reminder: Geno was the guy that said the Kingdom Hearts HD collection would contain all 6 games prior to 3D.

He got lucky they were working on one, but the details were WAY off. Don't get your hopes up folks.

I think there's an edge not examined in the article, but that I think could be an important part of this. Of the games with female only leads, how many people have accused the developers of doing nothing but appealing to the male market? How many people have become offended because they aren't able to differentiate a "bad" character with an attractive one?

How many people believe that a young beautiful girl, trapped on a island with a lot of bad men, isn...

I'm fine with them defending it. I think we all saw it coming as soon as that last article got big.

It just bugs me that THQ basically say "although the CPU is weaker than other consoles, developers are finding a way around this to make great games with the new, exciting technology."

Great save, thanks THQ.

"Oh, and the press, the press, the press."

How has the story has been spun?

It hasn't been spun. The developer out and out said that the CPU sucked. You don't get to use words like "horrible" and then claim that the press took it out of context.

This was somebody speaking out of line; backtracking is one thing, blaming the people who ran with the story - because it was a pretty big story considering most other developers were being very supportive of Nintendo's latest - is anothe...

Largely the people that complain won't buy the game whatever happens. The developers will massively shake things up, the diehard fan (of which there are millions) will get put off by changing systems/over-complication and those that have complained for years will say "I knew COD was just a fad!"

The only thing for the developers to do is to keep the basic game and upgrade around it.

In terms of reviews: I've always taken the viewpoint that i...
