"None of this would be a problem if the PS4 could play PS3 games. Just pop the disc in and start playing. No fuss, no extra fees, no waiting for your favorite game to get cloud support — now that’s simple."

Let's pretend that this article wasn't rubbish to begin with - lag and poor image quality, indeed(!) - but this right here made me laugh out loud.

Yup - simple. Let's take this console, a completely different beast to its predecessor,...

There will come a point where Call of Duty isn't as popular as it once was - that's why Activision are putting so much funding into Bungie.

But it's not going to be an on-off switch. They'll make sure that everybody currently buying Call of Duty will have access to it for the foreseeable future, on whichever platform they choose to buy it on.

Their argument is that, the way they do it, they could take your fifty and LEAVE you your fifty. It's hard to argue if everybody can get hammered for the same cost, huh?

Really though, although piracy isn't as black and white as some people would want you to think, there's no excuse for downloading a game a month in advance of release.

It is an hour. The H is silent.

I'm just as excited for the PS event though :D

I have to agree with dboy. This isn't a gaming thing, just a general thing. Attractiveness isn't necessarily about sex or even beauty - it's about the ability to attract.

And why would a publisher put something on a box that isn't likely to attract purchasers?

I've always been a staunch supporter of trophies/achievements, but you, sir, have turned me around. Fantastic logic.

Seriously though, Nintendo have created this fantastic social experience on their console that let's people discuss games in a clean, safe, creative environment. It's fantastic and innovative and if you haven't checked it out yet, I strongly suggest you do.

The only thing missing? Actually being able to compare games. Even if it...

You're right, I know you're right, most everybody knows you're right.

That doesn't make it any less something that some people worry about. There are multiple examples in this thread.

It IS inefficient and that's why companies like GAME and HMV are going under. The problem is that nobody is suggesting a better way of handling things. Core gamers are worried about not truly owning any of their stuff if it goes all digital, stores are worried about making a loss on any game that isn't super popular and developers want to have their cake and eat it too (high prices, all for them).

Hitman and Far Cry 3 both dropped to a quarter of their initial price, ...

It is about gaming stars and without exception the characters in the game deserve to be there. What I'm saying is that It isn't about specific gaming stars. If it was, it would have sold better based on what's already there. You've said nothing about why this game would sell significantly more than it did if other characters were included, you've just repeated that more stars would be better.

No ones arguing bud, but we're talking the difference betwee...

So the defense you're all giving me for the crazy assertion that a lack of a few characters, albeit important characters, made this game a failure is that YOU didn't buy the game because these characters weren't included?

Look, the vast majority of the gaming market don't have a clue what they're buying and don't put the stock in nostalgia like the core do. They probably don't know Crash is missing, don't know that he's not a Sony mascot to...

Do you honestly think people would genuinely buy the game for a single character? Even three characters? Even five, including Cloud and Snake?

PlayStation Battle Royale can be had now for less than £20 and it's STILL not selling. It goes deeper than what characters are included.

You know, the first time I ready that tweet I read it as "Yeah, no." I'm glad you reposted it, because it's actually far more mild than I thought.

I thought it was a genuinely rude comment on what they thought was a laughable game. Actually it's just a slightly misguided attempt at teasing the audience. Brief stupidity rather than maliciousness.

The USA has the weirdest relationship with guns ever. You're taught, almost subconsciously, that without weaponry you're going to suffer, you'll be unable to walk down the street without being killed. Statistically speaking, the people with guns probably won't use them, won't even put ammo in them - but it's there.

There was a guy the other day telling me that the UK was dangerous because of a lack of firearms, that our people live in constant fear. Th...

@Bangshi

Just to add to what Gribble said, not only is there zero space for the Wii U in stores (my local Tesco has a cardboard cutout for Wii U games that's been empty since launch), but the prices are also skyhigh.

I haven't seen a £50 game since the N64 era, but if you want Batman Arkham City or Assassin's Creed 3, that's what you'll be paying. Keep in mind, you can get them for a fraction of the price on other consoles...

@Zeee

RE4 has "only" sold 7.5 million units, and that's the standout for the franchise. That was amazing though, since Zero and the REmake both sold well less than 2 million units (1.2?) and Code Veronica hardly made it above 3 million over 3 consoles.

Five million for this franchise is about what anybody being realistic could expect. Aside from destroying the pre-owned market and reducing the price of games, there's nothing to suggest RE ha...

@pintheshadows

According to VGChartz (I know...) it sold less than 3 million copies. Not bad, but by the standards in these comments a complete flop.

@Kyosuke

Then Nemesis dropped to around 3 million and the traditional series never recovered.

And Capcom were consistent to the point where even a massive bump in hardware only saw a graphics change and a slight increase in the number of enemies on screen.

The only evidence we have on the possibility of Capcom going back says they definitely shouldn't. Nothing about current gaming trends suggests otherwise.

Yeah, they ONLY sold nearly five million copies brand new. They'll never make THIS mistake again1!!!!!!

Seriously. They didn't hit seven million units, but it was stupidly overambitious. Very few titles have sold that many, including hardly any of the titles in the Resident Evil series (maybe RE4?).

Personally, the most interesting part of this story for me would be finding out how much it sold pre-owned. It dropped in price quickly pre-owned and mont...

What I think is funny is that I wasn't even being off-hand with him. He was ranting about how the sales prove the game is terrible and that reviews are all false and I wanted to know whether he'd played it or not.

Because seriously, it's difficult to call out reviewers without having played the game. You shouldn't even have a cast-in-stone opinion if you're not going to play.

And I got downvoted for asking if he...
