It feels very dated now, although not necessarily in a bad way. It's a very traditional feeling MMO, but the amount of content and the attention to detail is absolutely insane. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested in the lore of Middle-Earth.

With that said, there's no way any of these add-ons will be of interest to you for quite a while.

Yeah, I'll be honest, I generally find that people take things a little hard when things like this happen. It's almost like they're looking to be offended.

Nope. This post was 100% arrogance.

@XXDubStepXX

(sorry, apparently "reply" didn't register)

The reason that digital distribution is more expensive than brick and mortar stores is BECAUSE of the used market. They're not allowed to out-price themselves at retail, and retailers can enforce that because they know not selling a specific title is going to hurt the publisher more than it will hurt them (because they'll have used copies to sell days after release anyway).

If you don't want to read the article, fair enough, but see NukeItAll's comment above. There's lots of potential for reduced prices and fairer practises if the used market is gone.

Potential being the key work. Until it happens, nobody can say for certain.

@klank

And what exactly is inaccurate there? Aside from the "worse" games thing you've put into my mouth. My point was that any critic worth their salt plays a lot more titles than the average gamer, and so their opinion is based on a much more solid foundation. And I can't believe you could even attempt to say that that isn't as it should be. If you found out an IGN critic only played 10 games a year, you'd be disgusted, and rightly so.

Your presumption is that the opinion of any other gamer is as valid as that of a GOOD journalist.

I've played some 400 games over the last 12 months, across dozens of genres and platforms. How many have you played? 50? As much as that? 25? How many of those were from your favourite genre? How many did you finish?

If a game sucked, I had to keep playing, sometimes for tens of hours.

Presumably, a lot of the other GOOD writers are doing muc...

Seriously though, your post is exactly what I'm talking about. "THE CURRENT KINECT SUCKS SO I'M OFFENDED MICROSOFT MIGHT FORCE ME TO HAVE ONE WITH THE NEXT XBOX."

If Microsoft are building the OS around the use of Kinect, if everybody who has that console has the ability to use their voice or subtle movements to control certain aspects of a game, it'll be used more often. When EVERYBODY has something, it's no longer a niche i...

Remind me, what is a million times nothing?

I'm just trying to work out what this guy's free game is going to earn now that IGN have made their money off it.

There's a 99 cents version on the app store, but given that IGN's CPM is going to be much higher than the income this developer would or will ever have off this game, I think that's a rather moot point. Had they linked to the app store, or even to the fre...

@dcortz2027

Hey, dcortz. I don't want to go all hipster on you, but I was saying Kinect was going to fail to engage the hardcore gamer back when it was still Natal. Not just on message boards, but I was getting paid to tell everybody how much it was going to suck.

Not everybody who defends something a company does is a fanboy. The sooner you learn that, the better you'll find conversing online.

@beach

It's called an analogy. I've just applied to your comment exactly what you think should be applied to this developer.

Sorry, I presumed you'd be able to make the connection between the two.

So hey, decent comment. I'm going to go and take this comment and stick it onto my super popular website. I'm not going to ask your permission, because my super popular website is awesome, then I'm going to make money on your comment, which you wrote for fun and probably won't ever make anything on.

But screw you if you complain, because without my super popular website, nobody would have even paid any attention to your stupid comment anyway.

Because it's going to be a required component?

I'm sick of reading people saying things like "but I don't want Kinect!" It shows a really short, closed minded view. You know the reason the current Kinect is so lame? Why it's filled with rushed out casual titles?

Because that's who bought the Kinect. They got it with Dance Central in mind and never bought anything else.

The difference that EVERYBODY having the per...

Yeah, rumours can affect stock. I mean, technically we're talking about the marketability of a product. If you think investors haven't seen the negative response to always-on, you're wrong.

It depends how many people are selling based on those rumours, I suppose. That's the interesting thing. Either they're not taking the backlash especially seriously and are taking the risk of waiting until the official announcement - at which p...

Bragging? Really?

There's absolutely no bias here. We're reporting that Microsoft are seeing a level of success despite the negativity surrounding them.

If you see that as bragging, I feel sorry for you.

It's still the best RTS ever. There's just very little reason to pay for this if you already have it.

I'm sort of wondering if that's why it's only just been announced and we're so close to release.

If they'd have worked on it for 12 months and it sucked, it could be quietly shelved.

This is going to be a great year for gaming, and the fact that one of the best rated games of all time is probably going to be topped as GOTY is a good sign, I think.

It means things are only going to get better from here.

I'm up for looking more closely at Origins figures, but this is so hypocritical. The only reason to have Steam 10 years ago was because it was forced. Now, dozens of PC games force people to install Steam.

Knock it for its faults, by all means, but let's at least judge from an even field.

There's the "classic" version - the one that was made in 30 hours - on the Evoland website if you want to get a feel for what it is (although classic isn't as polished).

Otherwise, there's a iOS version coming over the next few weeks that might end up cheaper.

What interested me the most was the reaction of people.

Some of them out and out dismissed it as "video game incidental not worthy of this list" blah blah blah. These were generally the people who then went on to say "Films are in, but they're popular," so they obviously didn't realize just how big a business this is.

But generally, the worst reaction was "It's not for me, but it obviously deserves its place." The bes...
