Because better graphics is all that more capable hardware will bring to the table. Right.

You really have to compare the best looking Xbox games to the early third party 360 games.

That sounds like a bit of a cop-out, but you can't compare the best from people who know the hardware with the worst from previous gen. The average game on PS4 won't look massively better than The Last of Us, probably for at least a year after launch.

They will eventually become the new lowest common denominator, of course, but it's the question of 'when' that's more important than if.

I did misread, but I think my point still stands. If publishers feel a financial need to continue supporting old hardware, next-gen consoles won't become the lowest common denominator for a long while yet, much longer than I think people are expecting.

They're not the lowest common denominator. Ps3/360 are the lowest common denominator and will be for years to come, especially on already existing franchises.

Guitar Hero and Call of Duty aren't even comparable, and the fact you think they are shows you know nothing about the situation on which you're commenting.

The writing was on the wall for a long time with Guitar Hero. Games didn't suddenly stop selling (although the decline was fairly steep, but that was more that Activision didn't know who they were selling to) and the quality dropped pretty sharply. It got to the point where only the core Guitar Hero fan wou...

Or it might just be that it isn't a next-gen game?

It's getting a PS3/360 port. They've built an engine that will scale so that nobody is left out. The difference is going to be similar to the current difference between PC and PS3.

Yeah. World at War sucks so the trend will end soon. Black Ops is a step too far, people will stop buying it eventually. Modern Warfare 3 just doesn't add anything watch people get bored.

You know a game isn't going to go from 12 million to nothing, right?

The key word is effort. It's certainly more likely to get 360 BC than PS3, but how easy it would be to do and the cost effectiveness of doing it is another question entirely.

I saw Game were selling refurbished Xbox 360s without a hard drive today, at £20. There's just no way for Microsoft to compete with that for the Xbox One, so they won't.

That would actually be a pretty nice way of handling things. I'm guessing they won't do it (because they're focussing on having that for cable and asking people to constantly switch HDMI directly on the console would seem like a hassle), but they should.

The interesting metric here for me is how much of an influence all of those THQ fire sales had on the popularity here.

Koch Media and Deep Silver made a great purchase, obviously, but how much of that, I wonder, was either directly or indirectly influenced by THQ closing?

If Uncharted 4 comes out on PS3 and PS4, the graphics for the PS4 version will be underwhelming. I swear you people expect Activision to go full next-gen and ditch the millions of people who aren't going to bother upgrading.

It'll look better, but it's still getting a multi-gen release. You can't expect a true next-gen Call of Duty until they're not expected to support 8 year old hardware.

And if that annoys you, welcome to PC gaming.

@Donnieboi

I've tried to reply to you three times, but each time I've tried to correct you, I've just found another level of wrong.

Short version:

Didn't say streaming games has anything to do with user's PC. Didn't say the stream didn't look as good as the console version (opposite in fact). It's nothing wrong with Rocksteady/Onlive, but with the average connection meaning that 1080p at max is hugely unlikely....

It depends what you game on. OnLive's version of Arkham Asylum was definitely better than the console version, but didn't have the visual quality of the PC version.

Then again, OnLive wasn't developed for people with top of the range gaming PCs.

While they definitely do, you can't compare the stuff Rockstar are doing with the stuff, say, Koei are doing.

Grand Theft Auto IV sold to millions of people, and a decent amount of people are going to buy any DLC based upon it. That's just a fact. Rockstar can build what is basically a new game, because they know the return is going to be high (and that they can package and repackage it time and time again as well, so it goes beyond DLC).

Very few oth...

"do you honestly think people give gamestop or game their games for nothing? "

You are fantastic. Please don't stop.

These stores will give an amount based on the likelihood that a game will sell at its current used price. They can give you £25 back on a £40 game, because they know someone else will spend £38 on it.

But it's not as simple as that is it? There's a good chance they're NOT giving you ...

@Hammad

The graphics have improved for the next-gen versions of the game, but you can't expect massive leaps. You have to remember that Ghosts will see release across multiple platforms, including platforms that are 7-8 years old. I'm not sure what you were expecting, but the difference is going to be the same as playing on consoles and playing on a decent PC. Noticeable, smoother, but not "OMG" different.

True next-gen games - especially in...

Jesus, and this is where things get REALLY funny.

I'm not saying it's morally right, I'm not saying it's ok. What I'm saying is that you can't justify your opinion by saying that it's illegal for Microsoft to slightly inconvenience you. They're not stopping you from selling your stuff in ANY WAY.

4729d ago 6 agree19 disagreeView comment

People repeating this are annoying me.

You CAN sell the disk you've bought. Go ahead. It's a physical item that you hold.

You can even trade the licence that came with that disk (Microsoft confirmed).

Who cares if that disk you just paid $60 is only worth the price of a blank rewritable now? There's nothing stopping you from selling it. Who cares if you can only trade the licence through Microsoft's servers? You still have the...

@Kelly

So, here's the question: how do they improve the franchise without at all changing the formula? Most people who buy CoD don't want to learn new systems or even experiment with new weapons.

If you don't enjoy it any more, don't buy it, but don't expect them to change it when what people want is more of the same. It's not lazy to provide millions of people with what they want.

And, frankly, it's hard not to p...

@Alos

Yup, because that's what I was going for, to gain sympathy from someone who can find offence in a completely plain statement.

I know kids who go to these schools and it's people like you that get them so bloody frustrated with themselves.
