It almost seems like Windows 8 never really had a chance for you. Ive been using Windows 8 since before it was Windows 8. Ive been using it since the alphas and betas came out when it was still basically Windows 7 with a few features. It is faster and more efficient. True, but almost everybody has a smart phone nowadays with a data plan of some kind. Pretty much every smart phone can be used as a wifi router to tether the internet from your phone to any other device. Honestly, this just isnt much of an issue for most people. Only the ones who live in rural areas like Alaska or Montana where even a cell signal may not be a viable option.

duplissi has a good point. All consoles have been mid-range PCs when they came out. The difference that you love to neglect is the OS and being able to push the most out of standardize hardware.

Have you ever heard of World of Warcraft? Plenty of PC games have allowed playing while downloading for years.
Also, have you not heard of FRAPs? I can run software in the background of the game and with a keyboard shortcut start instantly recording video that can be easily uploaded to ANY sharing site in the world.
