Laying the truth down on misinformation

Triple AAA titles are hitting their limits with the current systems, mainly due to hardware limitations. If you dont think a significant upgrade to the GPU, CPU, and RAM will allow developers to make better games, you've gone off the deep end. Sure, it's not going to be the end all be all of gaming (It very well could be the last generation of consoles as we are use to them) but it sure should make for better AI, Graphics, Physics, and Connectivity between devices. When the lowest comm...

Originally when ATI pioneered this technology, they called it Unified Shader Architecture. True. Although they have always referred to it was stream processors. Ever since the HD series came out this has been true.

Although you are correct, Nvidia has called similar technology Cuda cores.

Yes, PCs are capable of so much more, I agree. The difference is in the OS, and custom hardware. Do I think it will be able to compete with the best of PC hardware of the m...

I want to respond just to clarify that when I said it might be as powerful, it was obviously relative. Might being the key word there. It all depends on what components someone has in there gaming PC. Without a spec list to compare against, I was just making a generic comment on the benefits of a console over a PC in terms of resource usage and custom hardware.

If you have a high-end PC at the current moment. A Core i7 at the upper scale, 16GBs of memory, and a high-end graph...

Bubbles for remembering all those old awesome TV shows before the network went to absolute crap. The problem is networks bending over to ratings. Just look at almost any TV network nowadays and you will see it.

History Channel doesnt have much to do with history. Discovery isnt much about nature or discoveries at all anymore. Animal Planet is just a bunch of reality shows like hoarders for pet owners. TLC is the exact opposite of its name, promoti...

It might be as powerful. You have to keep in mind that these consoles arent running an OS like Windows. The CPU and RAM arent taxed as much due to the custom OS, wich frees up a lot of resources. Not to mention companies can make corporate deals on hardware to have special small changes that make large differences. Such as the eDRAM used in consoles.

Im not trying to say the consoles will be able to keep up with the PC market. Obviously that is not true, but at launch they ma...

They are probably disagreeing with his guess on what the next console hardware will be. Or perhaps it's his GPU statement being redundant by saying less than or less... lol.

Or people are disagreeing because he used wrong terminology. He meant stream processors when he said cores. It would simply be amazing if a HD7990 had 4096 cores, unfortunately that is not the case.

Not to mention that AMDs latest CPUs have been shown to be a heavy hitter when it com...

@solid_warlord

I disagree. I hate all the d-pads on newer controllers, save the Xbox controller with the adjustable d-pad. The problem with the original 360 controllers was the d-pad didn't roll and felt really stiff.

Playstation has always been bad for fighting games. The d-pad isn't connected in the middle which leaves a gap to move your thumb through to hit another direction. I don't want my thumb to be as hard as a rock... a small callus is fi...

lol. Polygon count... what year is it? Is it still 1999 and were playing on N64 and PSXs? Polygon count hasnt meant anything for a decade.

Thats all you need to know my man. Just go to Charts at the top and you can see how the different components stack up against each other, and there prices. Then jump on newegg.com and try to find the best deal for the hardware your looking for.

FYI, dont worry about crossfire or SLI unless your shooting for gaming enthusiast.

You used a double negative. Thats probably what threw him off. Would have been better if you said "I have never played a multiplatform PC game that didn't look better and run better than the console version."

Lets not forget it was a pitch, not a finished title. A lot of unfinished games look boring, but could have been something great.

You know there are some people who still have 1st gen Xbox 360s... Just because you havent had problems doesnt mean others havent.

The speeds are fairly slow, but then again it has amazingly low power consumption. Im sure it may be able to pull off some good looking graphics with updated architectures for the CPU and GPU even with low frequencies. Of course it wont be as good looking as the next Xbox or Playstation, if not just for the fact that they will be coming out a year later.

*What Im interested in, is the possibility that the Wii U will stick to a 5 year life cycle. And we maybe get one more cons...

"People confuse 'Next gen' and 'Next gen' too often..."

With computer hardware, they mean the same thing ;)

"Next gen doesn't imply leap in visuals at ALL but that is becoming the common mistake and of stupidity amongst graphic-whores. "

It kinda does actually. As with any good product, the next generation is suppose to be better than the last. Better hardware is suppose to tran...

Bubs for you for this response. Very well thought out and intelligent.

To answer your question. No. I dont think we will have devices that will do it all. Perhaps be able to process more information, better UIs, etc. However there are too many different technologies, screen sizes, controls, competition, and more that will make this impossible.

Plus we are seeing the patent wars just starting to heat up, I would imagine its going to get worse unless someone c...

Silly Morrigan-Aensland loves pretending and ignoring logic.

PCs are not that much more expensive. The only people who will say they are, are people who dont know what they are talking about. You dont have to upgrade every 2-3 years. My old PC is going on 5 years old in a couple of months and it still rocks most games maxed at, and at a much higher resolution than the 360 or PS3.

Im assuming you must think all PC gamers have to have the latest and greatest or...

I couldnt agree more. The style of gameplay is completely different, not to mention the overall atmosphere itself. Ive played the fist two games too many times to count and I can catch myself walking around one of the Max Payne 3 levels looking for things to interact with. Or Im looking for those atmosphereic Remedy type tv shows from Max Payne 2.

I figured that Rockstar was not going to make a good Max Payne game. After all, Sam Lake didnt have really anything to do with the...

Actually, if your a true fan of Max Payne you'd know it wasnt developed by Remedy or written by Sam Lake. So you shouldnt put too much stock in it being a true sequel to the second game. Ill get it and see for myself, and if it doesnt feel like a Max Payne game with the right atmosphere, I will NOT be very happy with Rockstar for ruining one of my favorite game series.
