Any idea on how they're going to come to a neutral format?
The players are already in people's homes.

I agree the article doesn't debunk anything it's just adding it's opinion to the mix. It's logical but still just and opinion.

Michael Bay might have a little more insight into what is going on than a tech website.

It wouldn't make sense for Rockstar financially to make GTAV PS3 exclusive. But already you can tell that the artist part inside of Take Two really wants to make something special and that is why they're using the PS3 as their canvas for LA Noire and the other PS3 exclusive game they're working on.

Like it or not Blu-Ray space plus hard drive caching makes for some intriguing possibilities that you can't do on 360 that some developers would like to see what they can make wit...

We're all glad you got everything you needed to say off your chest in that one post.

1. A 25 to 50 gigabyte movie takes a long time to download and a lot of hard drive space. Why would someone wait hours to download a movie when a lot of people live within a few minutes of a Blockbuster video? Some countries have already started offering 50mbps download services but it hasn't hit the US yet. Plus you run into the problem that some have theorized that we will run out of bandwidth in 2010.

2. Yes hard drives are getting bigger and bigger however what happens w...

That article makes a point I never thought of. HDTV + DVD Player = HD-DVD.

You miss the point of what Michael Bay is alleging. Microsoft is only backing HD-DVD to prolong the inevitable enough for them to get their digital distribution network up and running.

Think of how much worse the format war would be if MS didn't have a HD-DVD add on for the 360 and if they never fronted the money to make Paramount exclusive. Toshiba would be in even far worse shape than what they already are.

I actually don't blame Paramount it was a smart business move on their part.

150 mill in cash for only 18 months of exclusivity. That's more than what they would have made in Blu-Ray profit until the market gets bigger.

Plus they were told Toshiba was going to flood the market with $99 players.

Paramount doesn't have to think HD-DVD is going to win all they have to believe is that both formats will be around for awhile. Wouldn't you take the...

I'm glad he confirmed what everyone suspected.

I understand that Microsoft wants digital distribution but they are going to have a few problems that they'll need to overcome.

1. The entire world is going to have to move to next gen broadband with 50 mbps speeds in order for it to feasible.

2. Hard drives are going to have to be much larger

3. They are going to fight brick and mortar stores like Best Buy who rely on physical dis...

Two questions

1. Is it cross platform?

2. How much per month?

You forget Spielberg is directing Indiana Jones IV. He wont' let any of his films be released on HD-DVD.

He made Universal retract and apologize for suggesting that his movies were coming out on HD-DVD.

He is a known Blu-Ray supporter according to his camp. (google it)

His only movie released so far is Close Encounters exclusively on Blu-Ray.

I think the whole war is the difference between companies that made smart decisions and ones that did not. I think we can all agree that both technologies are basically the same with Blu-Ray just offering more space. However the key decisions that were made along the way is what made and broke both camps.

1. Sony putting a Blu-Ray drive in every PS3 was smart.

2. Toshiba and Microsoft not putting a HD-DVD drive in the 360 with a year head start was not a slig...

UT3 for me!

Why would I buy a copy of a game for a system that the designer of the game hates?

Good point hadn't thought about that.

6772d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Even if the format war stays at the current status quo in a little over a year Blu-Ray owners will be able to get every movie from every studio save Universal.

If Paramount re-ups after their current contract expires they'll be asking for a lot more than 150 million because the installation numbers will be way higher. Would Toshiba pay 500 million to keep Paramount?

I emailed Jeff after the Ratchet and Clank review and of course he never got back to me. (I'm sure he got a tone of email complaints after that one). I stopped going to the site ever since. There is plenty of game information on the web without having to use a biased site.

That guy could have saved himself some keystrokes and me some reading time. Some of his points didn't make any sense.

A next gen wii with a 2.5 ghz processor won't put it on the same filed as a 360 or PS3.

MS has already said they are pushing the envelope with their next processor and want to include speech recognition.

Sony has already stated that the PS3 will be a ten year system and will follow the same footprint as PS1 and PS2 seven years b...

I'll buy an Eidos game as long as it's not Tomb Raider and it's decent. However I won't be visiting Gamespot anytime soon.
