"i might wait till it drops in price a bit or try and get a deal on it."

If memory serves, there's a pretty good deal on Amazon where if you pre-order it, you get a gift certificate for $10 off a future game purchase and you don't have to pay sales tax.

Boy, with all those 9s over there, I sure am glad that the Overall Score is not an average.

"And didn't the previous rail shooter that was RE: Umbrella Chronicles sell really well on Wii?"

I'm not sure, but I think the logic goes that everyone who wanted rail shooters already bought Umbrella Chroncicles, House of the Dead 2/3, Ghost Squad, and Overkill; and that Extraction and Darkside Chronicles did not do a good enough job of convincing anyone who already had any of the other games to shell out full retail all over again.

"the attach rate of Chinatown Wars on the PSP was almost exactly the same as on the DS"

I honestly don't know anything about Chinatown Wars's sales, but that's a remarkably silly statement, since the PSP has less than half of the install base of the DS. If the attach rate were the same, that would mean that the DS has sold twice as many total units of the game, which, considering that it's unit sales and not attach rate that determines how much money a game makes, is ...

"Lol @ no one actually having to buy Wii Sports and it gets counted in the LTD of the console."

Wii Sports does not get counted in the LTD software of the console by NPD because NPD does not count it as software. That's why it's never in the Monthly Top Ten -- or even top Twenty -- Software Sales lists.

They don't count it for the exact reason that people are asserting it should be discounted.

"now subtract wii sports.
still overtaken the 360 LTD software sales?"

Uh, considering that NPD doesn't include Wii Sports in their calculations, yes.

"But take for instance Demon Souls, if many people have imported it due to it not getting an EU release and then someone sees the US sales and decides to bring it over the sales potential"

Obviously no one at Sony, From Software, or Atlus considers that to be an even remotely likely issue since they released the game on the PS3, which is Region Free, so Europeans can import that game all they want and take away from the hypothetical sales of Imaginary European Publish...

"'Mahr, yes it's not very consumer friendly. The reason region locking came about was because of rating and also to protect each individual division's interests."

I know why region locking came about; I'm saying it's immoral and uncivilized.

The scenario that I'm talking about is if I'm from a...

"Nintendo isn't allowed to dictate what third parties do! That's anti-competitive and they would be sued for it. In fact they were sued for dictating what third parties could release in the early nineties"

This is all completely true, but what *is* Nintendo's fault is that since the Wii is specifically designed for region lockout, if I want to import a game, as in, buy the Japanese release from Japan, I am effectively banned from actually playing a game that I have le...

"is nba jam exclusive for the wii?"

As far as anyone's aware, yes.

Some solid choices on this list, but of course, it differs from my own top five:

1. Sin and Punishment 2.
2. Sin and Punishment 2.
3. Sin and Punishment 2.
4. Metroid: Other M.
5. Sin and Punishment 2.

I don't see Sin and Punishment 2 on this Europe list either. This is concerning.

"The other thing is I begin to wonder what has kept third parties away?"

I don't think anyone has a really solid explanation for this, but one of the prevailing theories is that even though the Wii is technically easier to develop for in terms of architecture, it requires a different skillset to make games for than the HD consoles.

What we might call the "A Team"s over at the big third party corporations have the reputations they do because t...

"But I don't know if its "M" games that don't sell well as there is evidence to show M games do sell well."

Well, I would agree with you on that, but at this point, it's not actually a matter of whether M games sell well or not; it's a matter of whether third parties believe they can. And after Extraction, that's looking like a 'can't' there.

I mean, you can say what you want about the game, that it was a lightgun shooter, that it was only fou...

That said, the article's eventual conclusion probably isn't that off base: The numbers show that there is clearly a substantial niche of Wii owners looking for these types of games, popular franchises do better than new IPs, light-gun shooters are losing their luster, and Extraction's poor performance means that, rightly or wrongly, Wii owners probably aren't going to get much in the way of M-rated support in the near future from third parties.

Here's hoping to Zangeki No Regli...

"Though we were unable to obtain sales numbers for specific titles, the NPD has confirmed to Ars that the Resident Evil series has moved approximately 1.44 million units on the Wii in total, which makes for an average of 480,000 per game. Not terrible numbers, but with both the popularity of the series and the large installed base of the Wii, one would expect much higher. In comparison, the PS2 version of RE4 has sold over two million copies, more than all three Wii games combined."...

"Give them to PS3/360 owners then! I wouldn't mind playing Shattered Memories or Crystal Bearers on a next-gen console. I can recognise that they are good games."

Well, that's just the way the industry works. The public perception is that traditional games don't do well on the Wii and mini-game collections don't do well on the HD consoles. Square's reluctance to put something like Bearers on the PS3/360 is therefore understandable.

I don't get it. We're saying this is a bad thing? I mean, these games represent everything that everyone around here is supposed to hate. Why exactly should they sell?

"there are some good game on the list but out of millions of gamers a couple of hundred voters is nonsense."

I think we're all getting a little confused over what this list is billing itself as. All it says is that it is a ranking of the games most wanted by VG Chartz users; not of the whole market. As numbers go, 800 or so people is probably a fairly representative sample of people who frequent VG Chartz.
