It's amazing how reductive people can be when it suites the narrative they want to push.
Some belting choices you have listed Seraphim, I couldn't argue against any of them. Metaphor and FF7 Rebirth are sat on my shelf waiting to be played. I'll be picking one to blast over my Christmas annual leave.....2 whole weeks to commit to my gaming.
I guess what we can agree on is that this year has been incredible for high quality games.
PS. My fave game I played this year was actually Lies of P but of course, that came out last year. If ...
Absolutely loved Astrobot and have no issue seeing it win, especially as platformers are often overlooked when it comes to GOTY gongs. Personally, I think Stellar Blade was my favourite game this year though.
Except this is really Machine Games' success, MS are just the megs corp who, rather than contribute to the industry and help it thrive, just exploit it with shitty business practices and consolidation.
Machine Games cooked with this one.
Debating whether to give it a whirl on PC now or whether to hang on till spring and play on PS5 Pro which I imagine will be even more impressive than the Series X version, which already looks great.
That's the issue with rumours squire, people imprint their own desires onto them and are almost always left disappointed.
Still, gives you another opportunity to dunk on Playstation, huh?!
You 'love Marvel' but haven't played the best super hero series of Spidey games ever made? You need to find the time squire, you'll be blown away!
Had mine on backorder with Shopto and true to form, they delivered it earlier in the week. I think I paid £96.49, retailers raising the price above RRP should be illegal, absolutely disgusting behaviour for a massive UK retailer, they are no better that these scalper mofos.
Yeah, that's different. I care about Playstation as a platform holder and believe that, in general, they make money within the industry in the right way; by releasing great games. I consider that MS are bad for the industry as all they seek to do is make as much money as possible while contributing little of value in return.
It isn't about 'bragging rights' for me. I want to see Playstation thrive and in my view Sony selling consoles drives the sales of games and Sony investing in making the best games in the business and keeping them as console exclusive (even for just a couple of years) brings people to the platform.
It's no coincidence, in my view, that Nintendo and Sony continue to thrive whilst MS have floundered for generations now.
In every other line ...
I just want to see all these core franchises come to PS for no other reason than to see the usual nutjobs lose their marbles.
I will defo pick up Forza Horizon on PS5 when it comes.
Happy memories of meeting at a pals house, giving Tekken 2 a blast then hitting the clubs before getting back to my mates for some Wipeout 2097, Playstation just seemed so cool and did so much to bring gaming into mainstream acceptance.
I hit the big 'Five O' next year dude, like you i got in on Playstation early and have enjoyed their products ever since. I remember seeing Resident Evil at a mates house and having my mind blown (i was still gaming on my beloved Amiga at that time I think). I went out and bought a PS1 within a few days.
I hope I am around in 30 years time dude, I got a hell of a backlog!!!
The bigger gripe I have is that reviewers pick and chose when poor optimisation or buggy software affects a score. I have seen a games bug issues completely disregarded when it comes to affecting a titles score in the past, whilst at other times a games score tanked due to bugs.
Agreed DarXyde.
To be clear, I'm not dunking on Stalker as I haven't played it, I just know how niche the original Stalker was back in the day and that in my view, pushing the sequel in such a way as to suggest it is a mainstream product comes with a lot of risk and baggage. I remember playing Stalker back in the day and it was a very hard-core kinda title.
As for Senua 2, I did play that and fell off after 3 hours of being pretty bored.
It's fascinating to note how Xbox and some of its fringe headcase community try to hype up certain games as if they are super popular mainstream games.
They did it with Senua and tnow with Stalker, where the original games had their fans but they were never mainstream hits. I feel like their desperation to push the sequels as these mainstream juggernauts really puts unfair pressure on devs and unrealistic expectations amongst gaming fans.
I really like Balatro but I agree, far better games than that have been overlooked this year.
Funny thing is, I honestly see Balatro potentially winning, the media types lost their shit over it this year.
Again, it is a great game but for me, Stellar Blade, Astrobot, FF7 or Helldivers really shone this year
Haven't played Silent Hill 2 yet, but Stellar Blade was amazing and definitely in the running for my favourite game this year.
In fact, I am currently waiting for my disk drive for my PS5Pro (retailer says end of November, i aint paying scum bag scalpers) so I can replay it to earn my plat trophy.
Seemed to me like all the devs in the audience were pretty excited that Snoop turned up.
