I think you are giving Xbox management WAY too much credit. They have lurched from one strategy to the next with little in the way of a long term plan for donkey's years. They have simply alighted on the realisation that they cannot compete in the console market and subscription is the only way to try and claw back the money they have haemorrhaged.
Where ever possible I like to resist buying games on release and wait a couple of months for patches to take effect.
Well the good news is, Bethesda have never updated their design philosophy so if you like their most recent games you'll have no issue going back to a game built 20 years ago. 👀
Personally, I felt like the brand names cropping up how they did just made the universe feel more grounded as our own (and not an alternate universe akin to a Star Wars, for example).

I always felt that it wasn't just the engine that was dated, but their game design too. Blows my mind that Todd Howard struts around like he's hot shit when he has overseen such a decline in quality. They have been left completely behind by many much better RPG developers for a long time now.
I agree and I actually appreciate hearing differing views too, it's fun to discuss I think. I just cannot fathom how people will loose their marbles over this kind of thing. Astro or Stellar Blade may be my faves as it happens but I am currently playing Wukong and I have to say, because of my bias towards these kinds of games, I would be happy to have seen that win too.

I seem to recall that a lot of the fallout around perceived misogyny at the developers potentially stemmed from really poor translations being reported on a year or so ago.
I wouldn't be too quick to react again this time on the basis of another 'google' style translation. Someone expressing disappointment is natural (if a little undignified), I'd just prefer to exercise caution given the standard of 'reporting' that goes on these days.

Rubbish, Playstation have financed dozens of the greatest games ever created over the last 20 years and managed their studios (for the most part) to brilliant effect.
They have tried (and failed at some expense at times) to innovate in the handheld and console VR markets.
Without Playstation, the industry would be without some of the greatest games ever made.
