I don't think it screws over the early adopters. They bought the system knowing what it had, and it was enough to justify a purchase at the time. They've been gaming for over a year now... while everyone else waited for the Elite? No. People know hardware reivisons take place. This is just another option for Microsoft customers, and won't affect the other two SKU's at all. The PS3 will be getting hardware revisions (just happened with EU backwards compatability), which will make it more...

Talking about what COULD have happened, as if it's relevant. I don't doubt either company could have had more impressive launches if they had the stock, but Sony did have the stock, so good for them on the launch.

Oh well. Both companies are in this to make money. If one has a technique that works, why not implement it into your product? Companies are always 'borrowing' from each other in the world today. Technology develops over time, and more and more companies will start to use it, but it has to start somewhere.

Just because a car manufacturer decide to put an engine onto their 'wagons', doesn't mean the rest of us are still being pulled around by horses. (I of course have no ide...

It completely depends. In regards to both systems, games will only look their best when they are tailored to use the systems strengths, so I expect first- and second-party games to look the best this gen (excl. third-party exclusives). Unless of course you have a team like Bethesda, who optimizes each game for it's corresponding platform.

This really doesn't mean anything.

I think this just goes to show that HD is slowly but surely catching on, at the same adoption rate as DVD was.

LOL EA, they don't like to work :P

Actually, the PS3 uses 2.5" laptop style S-ATA hard drives. Like the 360, those are also the expensive ones :P

And in regards to movie downloads, in a recent interview Phil Harrison stated that Digital Distribution was coming to the PSN, and if all Sony affiliated studios put movies up, I think most people will be satisfied. I'd be buying BDs, but for those who are interested in D.D. at least the option will be there.

I like the black a whole lot more than the white, but this expensive model just justifies the PS3's price even more. I know the whole argument has been about the PS3 being so expensive, but now Microsoft has practically duplicated that pricetag. Until the price falls and they start phasing out the other SKU's than I think this will only appeal to the most tech-savvy gamers.

Does your friend have enough money to afford two consoles? I can only get one, and it's the PS3, because like your friend, the PS provides the games that I like. This is not a bash on the 360 at all, because for the Western audience I think it has amazing appeal. I would get one for Lost Odyssey, Fable 2, Blue Dragon, and Ninja Gaiden 2 - but that's not really what it specializes in, and I think I can get more bang-for-my-buck with a PS3. If you look at what the 360 favours, shooters in f...

And you think you know more about the Cell than a PS3 developer? Right.

Feels like I've been reading so much about the 360 Elite already, it hardly seems like a big announcement anymore.

Really good read. I am a big fan of Insomniac, one of my favourite developers. I wouldn't say they are reasons that the PS3 will win the 'console war', but they are certainly good reasons to own one. Good enough reasons for me at least :). And as a developer, he seems very down to Earth, admitting that the 360 has better online and a better GPU, and that Gears is better than their game. I have respect for this guy.

Except I disagree that Casino Royale is a system seller. ...

I'll only be playing it on a 36" 720p screen since I'm poor, but anything under 40" shows no real difference between the two resolutions, so I'm sure it will still look phenomenal :). Never played NG before, though I've heard great things about it. I can't wait :)

From February to March the attach rate climbed from 2.7 to 3.4. With all the big name titles coming out in the future that number will be climbing at a very steady rate (0.5-0.7 a month is extremely healthy).

People cancelled their pre-orders, so they could just walk into a store and buy one instead? Sounds like a good thing to me.

I'm not too surprised with this number. Other than the hardcore gamers who think they need everything, why does anyone even need more than 1 game at launch? Personally, I would only have the money to pick up 1 title at a time - and who wants to have 4 games going at the same time anyway?. As time goes by it'll rise, just like the PS3 in NA and Japan. Nothing to worry about.

...and so the flame war begins.

In regards to this topic, last weekend I just started playing through God of War again in anticipation for the 2nd one. Can never get over how amazing of a game it is.

There are different people who do the reviews for the different systems, so a different opinion is obviously going to be present.

For example, if you look at the scores for each category, they are identical, except the 360's presentation is higher (the PS3 review notes the bugs). We all know the 360 issue had the same glitches, it is just that the PS3 reviewer put more emphasis on it, and subtracted more.

A 9.2 and a 9.3 are virtually the same. The review s...
