Software upgrades will give diminishing returns though. As you get closer to the hardware limit (asymptote) you need more and more software optimizing and you get less and less noticeable results.

MS may take an early lead on software API optimizing due to experience but eventually Sony will get close software wise but the hardware will in the end allow a bit more and as a result stay ahead.

If they used their bubbles for insults they would be down to one. I suppose that system is supposed to keep flamewars down, so much for that.

A fanboy got me for telling the truth not trolling, but here that is not acceptable.

After someone is down to one bubble they can troll at will as they have nothing to lose.

There seem to be a lot of X1 720p games many are 60 fps but some not:

720p is too low these days 60 FPS or not. It just looks awful on a 1080p native TV.

720p? No. just no. I have seen upscaled 720p and the muddy blurry shimmery mess it becomes on a native 1080p TV. 900p is barely OK, 720p is cringeworthy.

Except that Nintendo is way too conservative and always releases weak ass hardware so they can sell cheap to the masses. The PS4 and x1 are too weak as it is but at least they are close to "ok". The WiiU is even worse, just awful hardware power wise.

@HammadTheBeast

That is why I don't buy download console games, DRM. PCs are all filled with it as they are required to be always online. Steam is a DRM fest and they control what PC you are allowed to play a game on.

BTW I HATE KB/M to game with. One analog control only and mashing a keyboard? That has to be the most ergonomically awful way to game, I don't care how "accurate" a mouse is. Being hunched over a desk while punching keys is...

@T900 "PC just holds cards that scream consumerism and choice of freedom".

That is only if you pirate everything. Otherwise PC games have more restrictions on when and where you can play the games as they are almost all DRM filled digital download and always online these days. Most big PC releases you can't even load up unless you are constantly connected to the internet even if playing in SP. You r beloved Steam is also filled with DRM restrictions on what PC...

It only takes a few weeks to ship a game after going gold right? It takes much longer I would imagine to fix bugs and add features. First you need to know the bugs, then you need to research what is causing the bugs, then you need to code a fix for the bugs, then you need to test the bug fixes to see if they worked. Then you need to test the game after you fixed the bugs to make sure you didn't break something else while messing with the code. I would say that would take a couple of m...

So much for not being always online. The problem is also even if you are online you can't backup these patches. So if you need to uninstall for space (or your HDD fails or you upgrade it)and then want to play again at a later date you need to re-download gigs of patches AGAIN even though you already did it at one time which is IDIOTIC (and when the patches are no longer online you are stuck with a busted game forever)!

You should be able to keep patches but delete the gam...

Except that Sony or MS don't design APUs any more than Dell designs graphics cards or CPUs. They state what they want their system to accomplish and what they want to do with it. It is up to the experts at AMD to design the APU part correctly. If AMD saw a design flaw as bad as you are saying it is unlikely they would just go ahead and do it that way anyway without saying anything.

If a company is going to invest billions over time in pro...

So you are saying that the X1 is actually more powerful due to terrible design choices for the PS4. Basically the PS4 has all of these extra CUs and ROPs that are useless due to bandwith, they may as well left them out and saved some money. You also must be saying that AMD doesn't know what the hell they are doing when designing APUs. At no point during the long design cycle did any of the engineers say "you know it is pointless putting all of this extra GPU stuff in here, they ca...

"It forces the other guy to up their effort in making a system better."

Or it just forces the other guy to start buying up third party exclusives and moneyhatting studios. That is where I see MS going. Microsoft has basically unlimited money. What would happen if they made Fallout 4 an Xbox/PC exclusive? What if they made FIFA an xbox/pc exclusive and killed the PS4 in Europe? They COULD do that you know. Then all of a sudden competition wouldn't be so go...

Customers won't always win. What if MS gets fed up with losing ground and just starts buying up games and makes them all Xbox exclusives? They DO have the money to do that.

Xbox fanboys would love to make games exclusive and keep big games like COD, Fallout, Elder scrolls, Titanfall etc. away from Sony to win forum wars and make themselves feel better about their console choice.

I don't think anyone else would think all customers win, because then o...

Nice excuse.

Who said that this remaster MUST be named the way it is? They could have included all and just called it something else.

VR is not this year either.

It does seem like we say "wait until 2015 that is when the big titles drop". Now it is "wait until 2016 that is when the big titles drop". It seems like the big titles are always a year away. It is like Cubs fans always say "oh well there is always next year".

That is not a system seller. It is not a retail game and people don't see it on shelves. It is also online only- MP only. That cuts out anyone who doesn't do digital download titles or likes SP games.

It looks decent but will be a niche. I think it is a big mistake that they made No Mans Sky a PSN download only game and not having a retail version too.

@Lennoxb63

If you just look at the specs though it does look like PS4 has 50% more power in the GPU at least. That is also coincidently about the difference between 900p and 1080p. That is not delusional. DX12 is just a software layer between coders and the hardware. This layer will make things a bit easier to code and will improve things but it can only do so much with the hardware which is fixed. Since the current X1 API pretty much goes to the metal anyway DX12 won'...

Except that 60 FPS @ 900p is more taxing than 1080p at 30 FPS. To get the 60 you would probably need to go down to like 792p which is just ICK! That is why most go for 1080p @ 30 FPS it gives the best image for the hardware limit.

1080p @ 60 FPS on console is ALWAYS doable. It is just a matter of what has to be downgraded to do it. If you get rid of lighting detail, shadow detail, pare down the environment and make LOD worse then sure you can do it. The only time it really doesn't come to downgrading is when you port a last gen game with some minor improvements. Look at TLOU, if you turned off the better shadows you got 60, if you enabled higher res shadows you only got 30 FPS.

Hardware is not ...
