"Passing more memory through the bus != next gen graphics."
Problem is that no one (to my knowledge) has defined "nex gen graphics".
Can Wii U play with Xbox One and PS4, given the current software? Yes as far as I can tell,if the programmer isn't lazy and/or the studio wants to spend the $ for programmer time to tweak.
The hardware does the job for anything I've seen so far, just not as simply or elegantly. Ma...
I can wait a day. More to the point, will the download price be the same as the in-store price for a change?
I'm tired of being ripped off by e-shop.
Well lets talk about that ....
Quantity of memory doesn't impact speed, well it does in the sense that accessing MORE memory is theoretically slower. Doesn't mean that more memory isn't good, but accessing more memory is slower, although it does let you do fast screen draws.
More to the point, I don't think anyone argued that Xbox One or PS4 don't have more/faster memory. The argument has been, all along, that Wii U isn't capable of ...
Simple #1 answer that will piss the gamers off, but be good for us too.
Wii U Fit .... it sold a TON of Wii's, and those people are just as likely to pick this up now (and perhaps an M rated game or 3 this time around, if they're available).
Apparently the 3rd most sold game (other than pack-ins) in console history, with over 44 million copies sold. Laugh if you want about the casual gaming aspect, but if it sells ONLY 10% of what it previously sold...
They "lost" the previous generation?
How do you figure? Nintendo is sitting on a boat-full of money, whereas Sony is close to bankruptcy?
I mean you have some strange parameters for win/lose. In anybody's books Wii won big for Nintendo.
If it had Steam (ie. it was a Steambox), they could possibly take out the PS4 and Xbox. I'd like a convenient small Steambox for the livingroom.
But ... it doesn't ... and it won't.
humbleopinion: I have a PS3, and I'll keep it. But I don't know where you pull out the fact that Wii U has no proper online multiplayer?
I mean, seriously?
But then I'd be taking into account the free game that comes with the WiiU.
I didn't join PS+ before, so to me it is $50 out the window; if I'd thought there was enough value I mighthave. Worse yet, lets see how much "free" there is when the PS4 is out, and where the PS+ pricing goes afterwards.
Wii U.
No annual subscription to play online, more exclusives, bigger technological leap, comes with a game, and backward compatibility.
PS4 maybe in a couple years, but the PS3 has lots of life, there isn't that big a leap in technology from PS3, and PS3 has a good library of games available today, many of which I already own.
Xbox One? I don't see a reason for it.
Sure I can make that argument.
This fall Wii U will have more exclusive titles than any other system.
Wii U costs less, and there is no annual subscription fee to play online.
Wii U comes with a game included.
Wii U has backward compatibility, and can play that old library of Wii games (hey - somebody other than me must have bought them!)
As for the PS4 (which I think stands a better chance than Xbox1) a lot ...
Actually PS4 is $399 plus $50 a year for life if you want to play online. I'd argue that increases the price differential quite a bit.
I bet Nintendo would go for a $200 Wii U, and a $50 a year subscription fee. Not sure I would like that, though.
"Gimped down" how exactly?
Are they "gimped down" on the PS3 and Xbox 360?
If you think for a second that Bethesda will only be releasing on PS4 and/or Xbox One without some HEFTY payment from Sony or MS, you are wrong.
You'll likely see all their games "gimped down" on a PS3 and an Xbox 360 for quite some time. Not to worry.
I agree. Don't really need more than 2 consoles (that is already 1 too many), so a PS3 and a Wii U work out well.
PS3 has a great catalogue and no REQUIRED PS+ subscription. Wii U has unique IP and unique hardware.
Rather than a PS4 or Xbox ONE, I'm likely to get Steam in a couple years, with a PC that is far better than either of them, at a lower cost.
Do those tablets require you to pay an annual subscription fee to play online?
More importantly, they and the smartphones are portable and serve other uses.
Did you factor in the PS+ price you need to pay to play on-line?
With no backward compatibility, anyone with a PS3 (unless they regularly subscribe to PS+) will avoid a PS4 for at least a couple of years, unless they just have money to burn.
Donnieboi - I don't know about "worth", but if you want to play games online you have to pay for PS+ and that puts the PRICE of a PS4 up to close to $700.
Sony has you by the balls here too - if they raise PS+ price, what are you going to do about it other than play offline?
So tell me - is the PS4 worth more than $399? Particularly with the anaemic initial library and no backward compatibility? I don't think so (certainly not for a PS3 ow...
I haven't played these before, so looking forward to it. For $14 and the update, it sounds like a good deal.
Finally something new!
Just buy Wii U if you want DRM stopped. As system volumes increase, first parties move to the systems you want.
And lets face it, the Xbox 1 and the PS4 don't really bring that much new to the table that we don't already have with our PS3s and 360s.
Call it underpowered if you want, but it definitely brings something new to the table.
I'll be playing it on my Wii U!
Should also mention how you get to pay annual/monthly fees with Sony and MS, how there is no pack-in game, and how that HD you worry so much about costs about $80 for 2 terra bytes, rather than the puny drives in the Sony or Xbox. ON top of that there is backward compatibility, so you don't lose games in your library.
The fanboy BS I see is from you. None of the new consoles is "garbage".
