That's what I thought, making comment #1 very confusing. Regardless of whether this is true or not, people are going to bash Sony for it, so it doesn't really matter. I've already got HDMI cables so I couldn't care less.
All of that information is correct. Microsoft does sell first party games developed by Microsoft Game Studios like PDZ, PGR, N3, etc. for $50. Second party(developed outside of MS but published by MS) and third party games retail at $60.
Speculation does seem to indicate that game demos will be free, as explained by Virtual Gamer:
"It's a virtual trading place where they can use their version of an electronic wallet to purchase games, and download new content, d...
All right, it looks like Sony listened to us gripe about them hyping hd and not including hdmi, so we'll have to change strategy. Now let's complain about them including a cable that most people won't be able to use. The logic in all of our arguments is flawless! Xbox fanboys unite!
I swear if one xbox fanboy complains about this I'm going to lose it.
I doubt Sony would bash 20gb hd's, cause after all, that would be like shooting themselves in the foot. For example, you're not going to see Microsoft come out and say memory cards and wired controllers are junk, although Sony might say something like that soon.
Can someone who knows a little more about the 360 architecture explain this frame buffer and 1080p thing a bit more? I'd like to hear both sides, form a preliminary conclusion, and then make a final judgement when I see Lost Planet on the 360.
"Upscaling games to output at a higher resolution, like what happens to Xbox games on the Xbox 360, could still be a possibility."
Did you not even read this? And at least there will be full backwards compatability, not just limited compatability with polished graphics. I'm really not worried about graphics if I'm playing psone and ps2 games am I? If graphics were all that mattered I'd be playing only ps3 and 360 games, wouldn't bother with the wii, wouldn't play o...
I saw this posted in the other controller article:
"1000 charges on a lithium battery until it loses 20% effciency. 30 hrs per charge. 30 thousand hours of gaming.
If you used your PS3 controller 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for one year, you'd use 8,736 hours of controller life. That doesn't included downtime for charging.
It would take almost four years of non stop gaming for your controller to lose 20% efficiency, and probably another tw...
Oh God no. Anything but Uwe Boll. It would be more entertaing to stare at a blank screen in a theater than have to watch him bastardize another videogame license.
I wish I could give you more positive feedback. If anyone deserves 7 bubbles it's probably you.
Wow, I usually think myself of being good at reading between the lines (I called that ps3 exclusive content thing back during x06) but even I misunderstood that sentence. Way to actually read what it says unlike what most of us, myself included, did and just misunderstand it. It looks like you're right about the wording, and that sets my mind at ease now about the demos. Good work.
My favorite one is "The Nuge." I got quite a good chuckle out of it.
What? Points was Microsoft's way of saving money and making downloadable content viable. Every time a credit card transaction occurs, it takes money and time to process it, money that Microsoft would rather keep. By making only the first step (purchasing the points) involve real cash there is then only one real transaction taking place. That way, the company doesn't have to incur expenses every time horse armor is bought, only everytime points are purchased online. Sony is doing the exac...
I think you guys are blowing this way out of proportion. Does it suck that the conrollers cost so much? Yeah, that's why I usually go third party for extras because all first party companies overcharge. Does it suck that the battery isn't replaceable? Yeah that's pretty homoerotic. But the controllers are wireless as a standard, charge by hooking up to the console, can be played and charged at the same time, have a sixty foot wireless range, and a 30 hour battery life to begin with, so e...
Yeah, all the consoles usually have a massive amount of games that would best be left forgotten. I'd like it if only the better, or more popular games were downloadable, because there are some like Chrono Chross and Vagrant Story that I would love to get to play after missing them 10 years ago in the fifth generation.
They said that one full charge is 30 hours of wireless gameplay. Anyone who games for more than 30 hours nonstop, well you need to get a life. Also, based on how they are offering to replace any controllers where the battery dies, I'd say they won't die for a while, otherwise Sony would just lose money on controllers (the one part of the console you know they're making a nice profit on). They probably feel like the batteries will last longer than the controller itself.
That is extreme hyperbole.

The Cd-i cost $700 in 1991 dollars, and they released the three worst games ever for it (the three Zelda cd-i games). If anyone here doesn't know of these infamous Zelda games that Philips thought would sell systems, check out this link and watch some of the videos.
Sony's system is basically a points system. If you pay $20 you get 2,000 points. People can still prepurchase $20 at stores and such, then the player has $20 in the online wallet. You still buy all that money at once, and then spend it later so you actually buy the points once whether you do it by credit card or in a store.
I do agree that purchasing demos is wrong, and just plain bad business. Demos are basically advertisements, and think how stupid it would be if we had t...
So Sony announces full backwards compatabilitiy and the ability to download all psone games for the psp and ps3...and you guys go nuts. Doesn't logic follow if you enjoyed the games before, you would enjoy them again regardless of antialiasing? I mean, this isn't exactly a great thing, but at least we get to play all the legacy games we want to on a ps3. I still get to play my old MGS, FF, and Guitar Hero games so I'm pretty happy. And being able to download psone games I missed, like Chr...
The subscription fee thing is mainly a personal problem for me. There's something about subscription fees that I can't stand. I just kinda feel like I'm constantly paying money, and I feel like I'm wasting money everytime I'm not doing that thing I'm paying for. I realize that the vast majority of people aren't as obsessive about crap like that though. I'm not averse to spending $3000 on a new hd tv for myself, $700+ on a ps3 and games, $400+ on a wii, games, and extra controller, but I j...
Thanks for the explanation. That was a nice, concise post that I actually understood. Good work.
