Lol, wasn't the Halo beta only delayed like one day?
Well, the BluRay release did face added competition from other titles being released, while new releases for HDDVD have been more scarce.
At least MS didn't f this up as bad as Nintendo would have.

I hate it too, and I was so into it at first that I bought a $500 bundle to have it at launch day.
Wii Sports blows you away the first time you play it, and everyone in the family and all your friends lined up and waited for hours in the basement taking turns playing it. Then after a week it was kinda old, and the gimmick of Wii Sports wore off.
So then I picked up Zelda and played the hell out of that for a few weeks. It was an amazing game. I liked GOW2 more...
BluRay will get price drops regardless. There are multiple hardware manufacturers producing standalone BluRay drives, and this competition will drive down the price just as it did with DVD players.
It's not over, it will probably last until Christmastime at least.
You're 100% right. Rumors of Universals possible impending format neutrality have been circulatin for a few months, but so far they've been nothing but rumors. Personally, I could see them holding out for a few more months, but I can't see them passing up potentially large sales come Christmastime.
Microsoft, Universal, Toshiba, etc. could still probably join the BDA if they wanted to, and take some small cut of the royalties. And Microsoft had VERY little invested in HDDVD. Toshiba would be the big loser.
Honestly, HDDVD add on owners aren't "screwed." There is still a bunch of format neutral studios out there, and plenty of nice coming releases for HDDVD (300 will be on HDDVD still). In the end, all they have to do is buy into a dual format player, which, for all we know, might cost $400 by the time they upgrade, and then they've spent just as much as anyone else for hd movies, and they've got a dedicated standalone player.
Double Post, WTF.
You don't even need to buy into Blu Ray right away. You could possibly go for a few months on format neutral studios, and then at Christmas or next year make the switch to a dual format standalone when it's cheaper and then you're all set.
I guess this means we'll be even more aware of how pixelated it looks?
Of all the BluRay releases why Silent Hill?
Rocky Balboa, Casino Royale, The Descent, The Departed, The Prestige, The Usual Suspects, Reservoir Dogs, Goodfellas, Full Metal Jacket, hell, even that crappy Talledega Nights disc Sony "gave" me. Take your pick from my collection they're all better.
PS. If you're looking to reassure yourself of your purchases and convince everyone you know to buy into hd then spring for Planet Earth on BluRay (the HDDVD ve...
Nintendo Power still exists? I remember reading that...when I was 5.
LOTR is New Line, which would be dual format.
8.2 I think you're right. Lucas will, by my estimation, wait until the install base is bigger and BDJ 2.0 is finalized so that he can do all the crazy extra features his CGI obsessed brain can dream up.
Carnage would be awesome. Spiderman vs. Venom vs. Carnage. That's gotta be the last movie the make, cause I don't think there's any topping that.
This would be awesome IF they reworked the game to include online multiplayer. I'm not holding my breath though. In the meantime I can play the game online through emulators. My Wii is pissing me off with its uselessness.
Edit: Lol. I said "my Wii is pissing"
I know in the case of Jurassic Park that Spielberg has blocked its release. He wants to wait until install base is much larger and HD exclusive extra content can be made. I'm pretty sure that Lucas and Fox, and Jackson and New Line are doing the same for Star Wars and LOTR respectively.
They might be betting on BR because of sales figures.
