Actually, the most important part of the Japanese market is developer support, which the 360 would lose if they abandoned Japan.
You think they stole the Cross Media Bar? You do realize that they've had that thing since before the 360 came out.
360 wins hands down? "the second wave of PS3 games should show off the system's superior hardware even more."
Your characterization is slightly misleading.
You forgot Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses.
Guitar Hero II baby!
What's the deal with Ninja Theory? Are they first party or third party developers?
If they're first party and this turns out to be as good as it looks right now, that's a pretty big plus for Sony, because they'll probably continue their dominance in this specific subgenre of the action adventure genre, what with Devil May Cry, God of War, and now this.
Do you think that Gears would be impossible to do on the ps3 though?
I think both systems are capable of that kind of graphical fidelity.
Plus, Resistance actually does outshine Gears in some areas from what I've seen, namely particle effects and draw distance.
We've barely seen what both systems can do, so let's stop making decisions on which one is better graphically. If you'll just be patient you can see for yourself in a few years.
First Jessica Simpson and now Incubus? Are all the artists of the month going to be signed to Sony record labels?
I didn't know Silicon Knights had a ps3 game in development. Eternal Darkness sequel perhaps? I'm going nuts thinking about that possibility.
The xbox's grade was based almost solely on the fact that it is a dead console. The cube will be dead in a few months, but it still has some first party support (Zelda) so it got the higher grade.
How many things that output at 1080p didn't have HDMI before the 360 upgrade? I think Sony's more guilty of assuming everything that is capable of 1080p will come with HDMI.
The two things I'm left wondering after this whole debacle are:
When is Microsoft going to announce/release their HDMI thing?
If Sony had known that the 360 would be outputting 1080p without HDMI, would they have considered letting their tv's do 1080p over component? (I'm thi...
Yeah, I never really got into the MMORPG thing either. The only ones I ever played were Runescape (a few years ago), and Guild Wars. I only played Runescape because i needed something to do in my high school computer programming class, and Guild Wars didn't have a subscription fee so I tried it. But some of these people just go overboard with this crap.
They do have a unified friends list, the question is why aren't the games using it? Ted Price has hinted at an online update that would unify the main friends list and the Resistance friends list, and I thought, ok that's fine. But why are other games not using the unified list? This is quite troubling, the online had been looking better and better but then this news comes out. Oh well, I'll see what's what on the 17th.
Microsoft will definitely gain ground in Japan with high quality games that have massive appeal like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but Sony already has brands with Halo like followings in Japan (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear) and so does Nintendo (I don't really feel the need to enumerate them, we all know what they are). It's not like Sony or Nintendo will have a lack of these huge franchises, as it was Microsoft's lack of them that held them down in Japan, along wit...
I wonder why Sony BMG is doing this instead of SCE. Probably not a good sign.
I was only talking about Ridge Racer 7's install process, but yes, Genji does have one too, and the same rules apply to it. It is also a one time process, and it reduces load times to almost nothing, but it would only be of benefit to Genji fans who play constantly.
Sony has had games that have outsold Halo 1 and 2, just not games that have out hyped them. And how does Halo affect the Japanese market?
I can't tell if you were disagreeing with my comments or not.
I was just saying it's not really an inconvenience if the games come with the update you need to play them on the disc themselves, as opposed to having to download or manually installed firmware updates in order to play every new game.
Not too thrilled that they changed the size, but at least they went smaller, and not bigger. The clear cases are a nice touch too.
If, as an example, Mitsubishi released a game console and made nothing but drift racing games and gundam games, resulting in poor sales in America and Europe, the Japanese would be saying "typical westerners, loyal to their own products to a fault." The simple fact of the matter is Microsoft has consistently failed to provide a steady stream of content that appeals to the Japanese gamers. First person shooters won't cut it over there. Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are the first re...
