In the last 1up show they actually talk about how games are probably going to get lower scores for a while because of how impressive Gears was, even if that is unfair to the games that aren't in the same genre.
Where'd the 6.7 come from? Is that the CoD3 score you're thinking of? They gave CoD3 a 6.5 for some reason.
Alright, now that this crap is done with bring on the next Ninja Gaiden! I hope this Itagaki scandal doesn't distract him from it, because I've got big hopes for the sequel, and the Ninja Gaiden Sigma remake can probably only hold me off for so long.
Better than I thought it would be. The online features are definitely innovative, but I don't the gameplay has improved enough to warrant a purchase. Maybe next years will be even more improved.

I don't really get how you can somehow try to argue that the sources that TopGamer repeatedly cites are objective.
If Phil Harrison, an O-F-F-I-C-I-A-L spokesperson, and an O-F-F-I-C-I-A-L source, claimed in an interview that the ps3 was 5 times as powerful as the 360 there would be tons of people out there rebuking his claims. By your logic however, his statements would be deemed more credible because of his O-F-F-I-C-I-A-L status as opposed to anyone else on the internet.

All right, I guess I'll try to force a discussion. I think if I had to select a game of the year, I would pick Twilight Princess.
Right now my top 5, in no particular order, would be Twilight Princess, Guitar Hero 2, Final Fantasy XII, Okami, and Gears.
Nope, can't say I played it. It took me a while to save up to buy a Playstation and N64, so by the time I got around to it FFVII had just been released. I didn't get many of the early games. I played Twisted Metal, but I can't remember if I had any other early ones.

I think your American numbers are low. You don't seem to be taking into account the preferences of American gamers vs Japanese gamers. They don't tend to go for FPS's, just look at Halo. Resistance will sell better in America, and Gundam will sell better in Japan.

I'm just saying the 4 games was over a timespan, not just on the first day. On Microsoft's 360 launchday in Japan they had an attach rate lower than .98 games/console, while that obviously went higher in other territories. Also, in a week when all the ps3s have been bought and shipped from ebay there should be a second wave of software being bought. Yeah, I think games this generation should all come with some sort of online multiplayer whenever it is possible.
But apparently in the Japanese market online gameplay hasn't caught on as much as in the west. Case in point, Motorstorm is launching in Japan in December, but it is coming in February to the US so online modes have more time to be implemented.
You'd be right, but Gundam doesn't have an online mode, which was the main point against it in that first review that came out. Ridge Racer 7 has online, and there are probably more people playing that.

That's not a very good reason to dismiss a game. EA publishes for many development studios, not just the ones that put out subpar products. NBA Street, Army of Two, Crysis, Def Jam, Fight Night, Battlefield, all looking to be good games.
I can see why you would boycott the microtransaction ripoffs, or the year after year sequels with no improvements (Madden, NBA Live, Fifa, etc), but you can still boycott those games and get the ones that aren't ripoffs/halfassed.

Zune's not really for me. I have an iPod nano, because I don't really need to watch videos, I just listen to it when I got running. But if I did want to have a better portable media machine I'd look into Zune. The wireless functionality is a brilliant idea. Hopefully the competition leads Apple to further improve and innovate in their products as well so in the end consumers benefit.
