The only reason why it is a bad business move is that gamers are too stupid not to pay for DLC. But if your target is soccer mom and her nine year old, soccer mom is too smart to fall for DLC's tricks. DLC exists because gamers will pay it. Its our own fault. Kudos to Nintendo for attempting to access a market that won't be fooled by it.
He's been reported, just let it go.
Did some of you actually read the interview or did you just read the clearly purposefully trolling title? Because if you actually read the article in context, the statement doesn't seem as over the top. Chalk it up to website editors to sensationalize anything to get you to click on something. Read it. Its a pretty level headed intelligent interview.
Interesting how their "jokes" are indistinguishable from their real initiatives...
As much as I hate Jim Sterling as a human being this video is spot on. If I respect anything about him (which isn't a lot) is that he will review fairly most of the time and that 8/10 should be considered great. I routinely buy games that are reviewed as 7.5/10 or higher and am almost always pleased with my experience. 7.5 and 8s don't usually blow my mind or anything, but I still have a lot of fun playing them, which is what matters. My mind doesn't have to be blown every tim...
Ya think they'd have more than just the "experimental footage" video from this summer by now...
Still, looking forward to this.
Analysts are morons.
While I sympathize with your point, PETA has NEVER been successful with this sort of activism. The idea, of course, is that by creating "buzz", they get their message across. Well, the problem is that their message is always: "You are a worthless human being for not supporting our cause and you should die in hell for having the audacity of participating in societal norms." The "buzz activism" loses all of its luster because PETA can't control its passions...
Agreed. PETA is in the unique situation of being an organization whose biggest enemy is themselves. And the reason is that their methodology for pushing their position is basically: a) Violence and b) Doing whatever the opposite is that will appeal to the average person's sense of reason. PETA is the ANTI-model of successful activism and its born out of its leaders and founders inability to have empathy for other people.
Guy posted an article last week that it was a travesty that this wasn't announced for the US and that he'd "eat his words" if they released one but that he "doubted it." Get eating!
You guys are really picky. Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars and Samurai Warriors Chronicles are solid launch titles. If they aren't your cup of tea that's fine, but if you avoided them without investigating the game play, then you haven't discovered how abnormally harsh some of the reviews of launch titles were. Third party support looks very good for 3DS. Sonic and Shinobi are getting great reviews. Heroes of Ruin and Revelations look like "must buy" titles. All of those ...
So, her only complaint is that a platformer asks you judge the distance and location of jump landing points and you happen to have to use 3D to judge it properly. Damn you Nintendo for making a game that requires the 3D!
Well, the only reason I won't get it is because I'm horrible at platformers. I'm just not a skill gamer. If someone told me that I could have fun with this game without having to time jumps to a split second I'd be all over it. Up until this point I've bought a few Mario platformers and I'm horrible at all of them. I just get frustrated. I'm a strategy gamer.
Did a gaming hipster right this article?
*drag of smoke* These five games are awesome because they're dark, brooding and existential...like me. But, you've probably never heard of them...LOL
I don't understand how a SONY fans self esteem can be based off of a system they are looking forward to "beating" another system. It is an incredibly immature concept and does nothing but stir up needless controversy. The purpose of this site should be to report and foster positive community, not continue to stir up trouble. You have failed N4G.
I have no problem with your comments on Used game retailers. So how is this the consumer's fault? How am I responsible for their business decisions? The fact is that as a consumer I'm going to get the game at the bet price I can. Why am I saw NAUGHTY for wanting that? What is different about ones and zeros that suddenly makes the Used market BAD?
I fail to see:
1) Why the release time of a DVD matters for the Used market? How does having to wa...
Nintendo probably wouldn't have had so much marketing trouble had this video launched before the system came out. Yes, Mario is silly, but the video does a good job of explaining how the 3DS is different from the DS, a problem on system release. Its good to see them addressing that problem.
Used books are not a sin in the world. You're paying for content that happens to be on a physical medium, in book format. Used CDs are not a sin. Used DVDs are not a sin. Used houses are not a sin. Used cars are not a sin.
That's a philosophical argument.
A practical argument, alluded to in the article:
By buying some games used and selling games back to the used market, Johnny Gamer now has the funds to purchase new games wher...
I find it interesting that you don't consider a million units of anything sold to be good. Fewer people generally buy handhelds than consoles. DS may be the top selling system, but all consoles combined far out-rank it, so you can't expect any handheld game to outsell a big console title. Your facts are subject to interpretation and don't just speak for themselves. If you want to make a compelling argument you're going to have to do better than just quoting facts without a...
"Free DLC" already exists on Nintendo products. Its called "Spotpass." Samurai Warriors: Chronicles has had 28 straight weeks of free downloadable stages and weapons.
