This is a commonly held misconception. It is not a "DS with 3D". It has two processors (one dedicated to wireless management) and PS2 level graphics.
I think axelstone is having difficulty seeing this through any perspective other than his own. You are not indicative of most gamers. Most gamers ARE casual gamers, whether you are willing to admit that or not. If casual gamers are so "BAD", why did the DS do so well? You also don't have much business sense. Companies are after one thing only: their bottom dollar. A company is a constant balance of "please consumer" and "sell stuff to make a profit". I...
Re-title this article with "PSP" instead of "PS Vita" and you could probably have just pulled it off the internet right before PSP's release. Video game writers seem fully content to completely ignore past trends when writing about this stuff. PSP was (and is) a beefier tech spec than the ds and yet it sold half as many units. PSP was niche and PS Vita is also niche. PS Vita will sell enough to be good for Sony and 3DS wills ell enough to be good for Nintendo. His...
Companies exist to make money. If they set a price point and you pay it that isn't the corporation's fault. If you pay it and are happy, end of story. If you pay it and are unhappy, let the buyer beware. I love my 3DS and I'm not upset about the decline in price. If you are, why did you buy the system early? You could have waited. Nobody forced you to do anything.
Agreed. I bought early (just two weeks ago) and I also don't regret it and I'm happy for the people that can buy at a lower price point. The price drop is also good for me because the more units Nintendo sells the more developers it attracts and ultimately the more games for everyone. I may have paid 80 bucks more but over the last two weeks of my summer I've gotten a solid 50 hours of gaming in that I've really enjoyed. And I'll get even more in the future.
Not so. Nintendo may actually sell more because some people will buy at the higher price point to get the "free" games, especially the "exclusives". I'm not saying that that is smart or makes sense. But I think it probably true.
Notice how an intelligent reaction article brings all the haters out of the woodwork. A price drop is only a good thing for early adopters because selling more units means attracting new developers which means having more games available. I swear some of you are so caught up on a game company treating you exactly the way YOU want to be treated you forgot that it is ok for some people to have different preferences than you. Nobody should WANT one system to beat the other. The competition be...
I agree. Selling 3.6 million of anything IS bombing.
What I should have said is "crappy for me". I shouldn't have generalized. Sorry, but few PSP titles appeal to me. Tactics Ogre does. But I can get tons of tactical turn-based games on DS that are just as good. If you liked the PSP, great. It's not for me. I don't want people to just buy Nintendo or just buy Sony. They should buy what is good for them which is why that it is good that there are competing handhelds. This isn't about whether one is better than ...
But N64 isn't getting any new games. 3DS will. It certainly wasn't JUST those games that got me to adopt. I am very much looking forward to the new Mario Kart, RE: Revelations and Heroes of Ruin.
LOL. Yeah, go ahead and sell. Why did you even buy it in the first place? How does this announcement now affect any of the gaming you've had prior to yesterday? How will it affect any potential enjoyment you can have in the future. If your reaction to this news is to sell your system you clearly should never have bought one in the first place.
As I 3DS owner I have no regrets having bought the system. Its ok if you have regrets because perhaps the software library doesn't appeal to you. It appeals to me. Some of us will like the Vita library more and some of us the 3DS library more. If you didn't like the launch library you probably shouldn't have bought. I bought because I liked the launch library and what was to come. Nobody forces you to buy a game system.
The value really remains to be seen. Vita is clearly a much more powerful, full-featured system but if it has the same crappy games that PSP did it doesn't matter. Is hardware quality what tanked the PSP? Nope. You can have the best gimmick in the world or the fanciest beef under the hood but software library is what determines a system's success. Wii didn't drop off because of the motion control. It dropped off because of the lack of games.
Scared or making sound business decisions? We don't know their margins.
Have I entered the Twilight Zone? A positive article about the 3DS? Refreshing.
Has your opinion changed with the price break? I'll admit that I was surprised that it was so much but it should draw a flurry of buying. Buying with less profit, sure, but with the unit costing 101 to make they could still get a slim profit margin on it.
After the price drop and the promise of 20 games to early adopters I hope all of you haters will finally shut up and realize that Nintendo has a tad more business sense than that. Bombed already? You don't know your game history. EVERY new handheld system starts slow and it makes sense that it should. There is always a cheaper earlier generation still available that still attracts the consumer not gung-ho about getting the newest piece of tech.
Oh, and you're rea...
Well, I still don't regret buying early. Its a great system and I've had fun with it so far. I never played NES or GBA in my youth and now I'll get to try a bunch of the games for free.
Some of your responses are quite hilarious. I frequented a constructible miniatures game message board a few years ago and this tru-ism spoken there applies here: "They could stuff the boosters for the game full of money and you people would complain about how it was fol...
Every "argument" you just leveled is true of most new consoles and lacks business sense. Companies release games when they can be profitable, because most games have about a two week window to sell. Games get delayed because their original launch windows are falling in windows in which they won't sell optimally. If Nintendo needs more time to give their titles high quality they should do so. That means that many people won't buy the 3DS until those big games get released...
Actually, there are lots of people that I know that haven't bought just because they were waiting for a new color. These gimmicks may not work for YOU, but you're not the only person who plays games.
