I think Tetris Axis is a perfect example of why paying extra for a deeper game makes console games more interesting to gamers than iOS releases. You can get a ton of content in really good console games.
Hmmm. Kinda surprised that no one has found a way to spin these numbers yet to prove a 3ds "failure". Cause, it should have happened by now. I'll save them the trouble.
"This is clearly evidence that the 3DS is tanking. Numbers don't lie. Bigger numbers are bad. The PSP Go sales at 15 just shows that everyone in Japan already has one, and that it is the most successful console of all time. Nintendo selling only double the PSP shows just how horri...
To be fair schlanz, the reason why 400 million smart phones will "sell" is because phone companies have tricked the public into thinking they have to upgrade every year and are offering those phones at much much much less than the cost to produce to sell contracts, where the real money is made. Handhelds don't come with contracts, so you have to pay for the actual device. What if companies asked people to pay the retail (500 dollars) cost of fancy smart phones? Trust me, peop...
Well reasoned reply. :) Thanks for that, first off.
Will you put a PS Vita to your head to talk? Or are you gonna go the d-bag bluetooth route and have an audible phone conversation with a headset in public that I don't want to hear?
I completely agree with you that anything is possible. Surely there are aspects of tech coming up that could change gamers minds about multi-use devices. I just don't see ANYTHING (including Xperia) that comes close r...
Finally, a common sense article. I think its also something that Nintendo and Sony fans should be able to agree upon. Whichever system you like best, both of them are better than iOS games.
If you guys don't get Netflix for 3DS across the pond you definitely deserve a substitute of some sort.
But tech is irrelevant if controls are awkward. Tech development (graphics etc) alone isn't going to cut it. Nobody is going to carry a game pad with them and even that Sony playstation compatible phone is awkward to game on. If this generation is the end of portable game systems, its the end of portable gaming. I won't game on a phone. Its superficial.
Dual analog is only "essential" if you play FPS. And let's be hoenst, why are you playing an FPS on a handheld anyway? I like that FPS' will be playable on a handheld but it is in no way "necessary". Puzzles, rpgs, and tactical turn-based have always been the bread and butter of handhelds and where their appeal lays for many people. None of those "require" a dual stick.
That said, none of you would ask a car dealer to upgrade your car...
I think that this just might be a case of tone not coming over properly on the internet.
Sony can't seem to do wrong in the eyes of some people and I'm just pointing out that both Nintendo AND Sony seem to be making mistakes and that it isn't fair for anybody to dismiss any console based upon specs alone.
Gamers are the most entitled fans in the world. They complain that the 3DS doesn't have a second analog stick at launch, yet still buy it. They bought it knowing exactly what they were getting ()or did they?). For months its "but the 3DS doesn't have a second analog stick, so it is worthless". Nintendo releases a peripheral to give gamers what they want and they complain some more: "It should have been on the device in the first place! Because, you know, I develop ...
If logic is trolling, then yes, I'm guilty. I never said Vita would be a failure. I think it will succeed, just not with as widespread of an audience as the 3DS. People have been using the tech specs of the Vita to "prove" that the 3DS will fail and that the Vita will succeed. My point is that Mom doesn't give a crap what the tech specs are when they buy a portie console for 8 year old Timmy.
9+ hours of music? You mean, just like the iPod that Junior...
So, Vita:
1) Same horrible battery life as 3DS (3-5).
2) No charge dock included. (Not that big a deal but still less user-friendly than the 3DS.)
3) No internal memory included. Go ahead and add a required added cost to the 250 starting price of the base unit.
Ouch indeed.
Those are ominous release stats. I have a feeling (which I've had all along) that a lot of people are going to be eating their words about the 3DS ...
A wireless mouse is what I'm thinking. Playing WOW on my comp (TONS of clicks) I only had to change the battery in my wireless mouse once every two months.
Any of you who actually own a 3DS should know that the thing isn't terribly great to hold for long periods of time, especially with games that require the analog stick and shoulder buttons. Since we found out that this has an ergonomic design it makes it a lot less crazy. If you think the 3DS is easy to hold you're either an eight year old or are purposely ignoring a flaw that could be corrected by this device. Any new 3DS that comes out with a second analog isn't going to have...
I love it when financial analysts attempt to accurately comment on the game industry and gaming handhelds. Nintendo wanted to sell 16 million. Its now projected at 14.5. Yes, 14.5 million would be a complete flop. *rolleyes*
I love the 3DS, but I thought that this article did a pretty poor job in defending it.
This is a Vita fan who makes sense. He/she says what THEY like, not what other people SHOULD like. I salute you.
Wait, so you saw an optional accessory that you don't have to purchase and that is enough to kill the handheld for you? That doesn't make sense.
The same arguments were leveled when the PSP came out and look where we are. You guys are AWESOME at ignoring history. You are also AWESOME in your inability to look at this issue from the perspective of non-gamers. Non-gamers could care less about the features you drool over. A parent could care less about Uncharted and other games that are marketed to an older audience. All a parent cares about when they drop their cash for Christmas is: 1) Price 2) Ease of use/kid friendliness, 3) Ch...
It isn't buttons alone. As said in the article, smart phones have to share battery between calls and games. That means even less gameplay than on a dedicated device.
