Ugh, I can't think of MMO's. The biggest time suckers of life. Way back when, I spent waaay too many hours on EQ.
The software library is king, so if some company makes a console, they better show up with some exclusives from past successful IP's to draw in attention. New IP's are risky.
I can see someone trying the casual market angle. This is a newer market and the buyers aren't as rabid and hard to please as the hardcore fans. However, I think the casual market is harder to guess. Mini games could just be a fad, so there is a bit of guesswork to see what works and what doesn't.
Spark is making the upcoming shooter Legendary which looked somewhat interesting, but not anymore.
Seems like every month there is a show to attend: GDC, Tokyo Game Show, Leipzig, Sony Gamers Day, Play.com Live, E3.
How many times can these companies trot out their stable of horses?
Don't forget Crisis Core as far as gathering user interest and sales. That might top GoW.
Boy, EA should be happy with the profit they are taking over... I mean buying.
I honestly think having Matt Damon would have been a negative. It would have felt too much like a movie game and would have had that stigma attached. Now, if it still stinks like a typical movie game...
Concern is it is coming out on every console and handheld and it probably had a pretty short development cycle to begin with. I'd like to see it do well, but movie titles are just never good.
We feel the XBox Live experience is still the most fulfilling, online, interactive community within the console ecosystem. Our number indicate 10,594,632,289 separate login sessions worldwide since the ground breaking release of the XBox 360, while Sony has only 4,598 logins (editors note: Sony numbers were found to taken from NPD data for residents residing in Kalamazoo, MI only)on their system.
We feel very confident in our position with Sony's upcoming release of Home and I...
You also have to consider the buying pattern of a casual gamer compared to a hardcore gamer. A casual gamer picks up a Wii because it's a trendy thing and gets a game or two, then as time goes by the Wii falls back into obscurity like their stereo or VCR, so their buying habits decline over time (the newness has rubbed off). This is not the case with a hardcore gamer. The hardcore gamer uses the console as a primary form of entertainment, they read gaming mags, go to websites, forums, etc....
Why is every platform now providing you with an entertainment experience? I'm just sitting down to play a game, I'm not losing my virginity here.
Well darn, had my hopes up. I've been renting PS2 titles from Gamefly lately and was hoping to copy them to the HDD and send them back. Oh well, maybe in the future.
BTW: I've rented alot of PS2 titles on my 80GB and have had only 1 issue with BC and that was with Psychonauts and even then that could have been disc related because it didn't even attempt to read the disc. Overall, I've been very impressed with the BC of the 80GB.
He adds, “You can go to any given store and happen to find some consoles there, but we can tell you that from working with all of our retailers and being able to actually know our inventory by store across the country that we are still, unfortunately, experiencing shortages.”
Huh! What the heck does that mean? I can go to a store and see XBox's but I should ignore them because the stores are really out of them? My local Best Buy has about 100 XBoxes of various SKU's. I saw ...
:) That's funny.
I really think EA is evolving and trying to put a better quality product out there (Just look at Army of Two, Burnout P. and the upcoming Dead Space). As a company they have reorganized and are attempting to give developers more autonomy and creative freedom. Plus now they have some high profile titles (assuming they take over 2K) that will be coming out with sequels: Mass Effect, Bioshock, GTA. All eyes will be on them to not screw these franchises up and I imagine the hardcore crowd will ...
MS has shortages because they diverted 500,000 units to Japan in anticipation of LO claiming the Japanese market. Fortunately for them, they will be able to bring back 499,995 of those units to the states in time for GTA.
What about Dangerous Creatures, where you play as a snake or tarantula or something? That one looked interesting.
Didn't XPlay give it to 2K sports when they did a similar comparison? Wonder what they were smoking at the time.
One point I disagreed with was his take on the PSP and DS. He thought they were too underpowered, but I find them both to perform very well at what they do. I don't expect console graphics on a handheld although GoW is looking mighty nice on the PSP.
This game has so much in it. If you spent time just perfecting your game on each character it would take months not to mention all the other content to play around with.
Online play is great except when you hit lag :(
