Phil can call up some buddies from Sony and have it fixed over the weekend and supply the beer and pizza.
I have to agree that they felt a little concern with MGS4 release being so close. Otherwise, why delay it so much later?
Old habits die hard. Bethesda sweet spot is content in an RPG world... hard for them to fight against their nature. Doesn't sound like a bad thing to me.
I think there is a difference between being humble and having little confidence. Dyack can come out and say, we made a good game that we are proud of and accomplished what we set out above all the hardships. I wouldn't call that bragging.
What it sounds like to me is he is hoping it turns out good and already laying the groundwork for excuses: It was the poor E3 showing, it was Epic's fault for the Unreal engine, etc. if things turn south.
You almost always get the better game after they port it over. I'm sure if they port Haze over to the 360 same thing will happen.
I prefer getting a game later. So much other stuff to play it's not like I'm sitting around waiting for it.
My wife will enjoy it. She doesn't play videogames, but likes the social side of things.
I'm just hoping our Avatars can deathmatch. You think Sony will throw that in?
MS published this game so there won't be a PS3 version.
This is the most direct and honest I've seen in any of his interviews. He didn't really reveal anything new, but he was much more frank in this interview than I've read in the past. He also never went into PR speak like his buddy Greenburg tends to do.
Overlord looked interesting enough at a bargain price. It didn't take itself too seriously... could be a fun rental.
In my case it might not be overnight. I might not be able to get back to it for a few days. My kids would probably turn the thing off.
Maybe the game can prewarn you before a long sequel is upcoming... go get some popcorn and dig in.
I imagine he has played DMC and probably most versions of it or at least seen them. His remark asking what platforms DMC4 is on was probably just a cheap shot to give the appearance he has no interest in it.
Google is so synonymous with searching it has become its own verb "just google it". It will be tough for MS to wedge its way in there. 99+% of my searches aren't for something I'm buying. The lottery idea mentioned doesn't look like it will hold alot there either.
MS succeeds largely on its aggressive competitivness and leveraging its foothold in the industry, not necessarily from making higher quality products that beat out the competition. In this case, MS does...
LOL @ 7.1 Probably go over his head.
You could argue that games differ from typical software. Most software has a longer life than a one time buy of a game. Take MS Office products as an example. MS can set a deadline and say it goes out on this date. Any features you can't do just go in the next release. Games have no next release. You get one shot to get it right including bug fixes. Sure they can patch it or release DLC, but that is really a different case altogether than a new release.
It is notoriously...
True, it is much easier to plot a film shooting schedule than it is to figure out how long your QA and bug fixing will take on a game.
There's a difference in major platform games like KZ 2. Sony pushed that because it was part of the PS3 marketing to also sell consoles.
This game is doing alot of things well. Looking forward to it coming out and I hope some of the things it does sets a trend for future games. I noticed when you look around, context sensitive popups show like when he looks at the glove compartment or steering wheel in the car. The mixing of items to solve a puzzle is neat. The graphics look polished.
2 other things standout: Phil Harrison would have a bright future in the NBA if he was 20 years younger. He has the height ...
The only problem I have with a 90 min cutscene... what happens if it kicks in as you are about to go off to bed? You can pause it, but can you save and return later? I wouldn't want a 90 min cutscene starting at 2am, but if you can return to watch it, then it won't be a problem.
I think they were talking Holiday and beyond, mostly wanted to talk about the big shooters and toss LBP and Fable 2 in there. They didn't mention MGS or Ninja Gaiden at all.
If Assassin's Creed sold 6 million across all platforms, there will definitely be a 2. It's not too far from being a really good game, hopefully they take with them the shortcomings and fix them up.
It's sad that Alone in the Dark type of games are going the way of the dinosaur according to Phil. I enjoy those engrossing single player stories. Not every game needs to be networked and have multiplayer capability. DLC is nice and it seems this games fits a DLC model with its chapter model.
