Not saying this game isn't good or may or may not be better than COD4, but first reviews always seem to be sparkling these days. If the magazine got an exclusive review first, it could mean a fancy score in return. It could be warranted, it could not. Have to see how others score it and how it plays.
I like boobies as much as the next guy, but how do you actually sell something that gets old after 20 seconds of playtime?
The game industry is so dependent on first week sales and limited edition sales that is has created a pricing problem for itself. Very few games maintain the $60.00 tag for extended months at a time. Only top selling titles do and the very elite will keep that price possibly for years.
This is in sharp contrast to many other products. Books may release in hardcover for the die hards, but the paperback will maintain a similar price for a very long time only when it finally ...
Risky these days to pick up titles at release prices unless they are the big hitters. Everything drops in price so quickly. This title suffered by coming out a month before the biggies.
ME and AC both are innovative titles, and you wouldn't expect them to both nail it first time out. I'm hoping that ME gets good sales as AC did and the genre will mature. Then some of the little issues mentioned in this article will be ironed out.
They had tons of copies at my local Best Buy the other day. I'll have to check back and see how it sold.
Man, this problem could have been resolved so easily if they had just tested the text early on in development. Now they missed the boat and the fix would take too long to get into this holiday season. I hope they send out a patch though.
The good thing is now that Gears 2 is coming out, Cliffy will fade away for a while. Hadn't heard much from him until they announced Gears 2. That means he will disappear until they announce Gears 3.
Oh Peter has had plenty of low budget movies, but they are all very good IMHO. Check them out if you haven't to see where he got his start:
Bad Taste
Meet the Feebles
Dead Alive
I know what you mean, nowadays he won't be working on the cheap though.
There's lots of reasons to keep a game around. I have kids that right now are too young to play M rated, but when they get a bit older might want to dust off some of the quality past games and play. I also have a neighbor that loves Gears and we were just talking the other day about going through it coop.
Honestly, what has Cliffy B. done that hundreds of other game designers haven't? Sure Gears was a successful game but so was Halo, Call of Duty, Resistance, Far Cry, Crysis, Oblivion and countless other titles.
The press doesn't hang on every word these other guys say.
"Hey guys, I've got this great idea for a game. Let's take some hulked up marines, give them some awesome firepower and pit them against an alien race bent on taking over the world. I know, I know, I amaze myself sometimes."
GeoW is a fun game, I enjoyed it but c'mon were not talking radical concepts here. Cliffy took some tried and true design ideas and a plot you can find in every third movie and refined it... That's about it. He tossed in a goofball name for hi...
I would have guessed Ralph Nadar... Unsafe at Any Speed.
That was the best intro to a game I've ever seen. Very cool.
How do games lose so much value so quickly? NGII isn't an exception here, it is the norm for games to drop nearly 50% in the span of a year or less. Only highly sought after games retain that $59.99 price tag for extended amount of time. I can't think of any retail product that loses so much value so quickly (products that don't deteriorate over time).
I'm honestly holding off getting the crop of holiday games this year until early next year when they start dropping in value...
Well, put a fork in em, Spark is done. They said Turning Point had a 9 month development cycle so that was why it sucked, but what will be the excuse for this one? They have bombarded magazines and websites not to mention all the downloadable videos touting this game, so you would have expected the quality to at least be decent.
Gamecock sure knows how to publish winners.
I saw the footage on XPlay and it was hilarious. I was going to rent the game later on down the road, but may have to buy it now.
I hope this doesn't become the Little Big Money Pit. I can resist buying some things, but I know liquids are in the works and darn if my Sackboy isn't Jonesing to take a swim.
PT Barnum said it best... "There's a sucker born every minute"
perhaps you've given this too much thought :)
Cheers on the motorboat function. I like that.
