>BC is overrated
To each his own, but I completely missed the PS2 generation having 2 small kids and a new job at the time that kept me busy. In any case, I have played a ton of PS2 games on my 80GB PS3 and have picked up a bunch used for peanuts.
GOW I and II
ICO
SOTC
MGS 1-3
GTA III, VC, SA
KH
Beyond G&E
FF X and XII
All great titles and glad I got the chance to play them.
Which 80GB are you talking about? The early 80GB that had PS2 software emulation (but not the emotion chip) can play GOW I and II. In fact coincidentally, I just finished GOWII last night on it.
Risky. Most game to movies are poorly done. Not sure if they will ever turn the corner like comics have done, but that's a decent amount of cash on a movie that may not recoup it.
A trilogy? Let's see if the first one gets off the ground or the 2nd two will be direct to video.
Add a little more pressure to the already high pressure cooker that is ready to burst. KZ 2 may be great but the expectations for it are so high, not sure if it has anywhere to go but down at this point.
On a totally different note, the article was reminiscing about past FPS milestones. I certainly recall seeing Wolfenstein at a friends house in the '90's and being totally blown away not to mention a slight case of motion sickness. Funny how things have evolved since those d...
Preorders this early on? Wow!
Gamefly has opened up more regional shipping locations. I get my games as quickly as I get my Netflix movies now. Strangely enough, I sent both a Netflix and a Gamefly back the same day and got the next Gamefly in a day earlier. They have improved considerably, but that will also depend on your proximity to a shipping location. Plus, I'm usually busy with the other game they sent so not too big a deal.
Publishers will have to start putting embargoes on reviews of reviews until a certain date before the release.
>It doesn't make sense for any company to cut a profitable department
You can't really make a blanket statement like that. They may have 10% dead weight and still be profitable, but cutting that 10% makes them more profitable. There's alot of factors involved. They might be cutting internal programs or slimming down in areas to make the department more lean.
Used to be and I don't know if this is still their policy that MS would annually rank their employe...
Don't overthink the ads Sony. All you have to do is show gameplay and it will sell itself. Trying to get too cutesy with ads no one understands just wastes money.
Online rental like Gamefly is a good option if you play often enough. $20.00/month to get 2 games out at a time. If you can play roughly a game a week, then it is $5.00/game. They also have a reasonable "keep it" price. The other plus to a rental service is you play games you only had a passing interest in and wouldn't have bought anyway, or you can go the try before you buy route too.
That was rather a low key release statement about AC2 considering the build up. First, Ubisoft said they won't release it until people start getting excited about it (seemed to backfire). Then they were coy about it coming out at all and when it might. Now it is just mentioned in a release statement with a host of other games.
I'm his father.
A title card at the end of Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty revealed that more Ratchet & Clank will be coming in 2009, but with Uncharted 2 launching at the same time, does Naughty Dog have two games in them
Looks like a small guffaw, but Insomniac not Naughty Dog created R&C.
Wow! Just wow!
What a week. MLK bday, then Obama is sworn in and now a blurry picture of AW from 30 feet across the room. I can only imagine what Thursday will hold. Is that a dollar bill taped to his blinds? The surprises never stop.
Rather weak arguments and as most have been commenting here EA not Bioware controls ME, so most of the author's points hold little weight.
The one point that might be telling in all this is if ME gets ported to the PS3. I can't imagine they would start with ME II on the PS3 as that would hurt sales for those who haven't played ME. Why start reading LOTR at the Two Towers? In any case, I think one of the big reasons Bioshock was ported to the PS3 was due to the upcoming Biosh...
Strangely enough this article was written by Denis Dyack.
Too much sky is falling in the article. Games have taken off in the last few years and although some companies have folded and layoffs seem more prevelant, games aren't immune to the current recession. Plus, companies have layoffs and fold all the time, they just seem to be getting more press as of late.
While sequels are the norm, it is hard to argue that publishers aren't taking some chances. Alot of new IP has come out that doesn't just walk the same old paths of other ga...
Wow, what a horrible argument this author suggests. The whole premise is they sit on the game another year to make fiscal 09 look better to shareholders. This is an asinine business practice if the author truly believes that. For the game to sit unreleased means SE is paying salaries, building leases and all other business expenses used to create FFXIII while it sits there NOT making them money collecting dust so they can look better the next fiscal year. Instead they should get it out as...
Just shows that no one is immune to this recession. Sure PC sales and likewise MS product sales are down, that is to be expected. Now the recession alone isn't MS's whole problem. They are now competing with very nimble opponents in spaces they are no longer (or never were) the leader in.
In any case, I disagree with the author's statement that MS should abandon the less profitable businesses like the XBox. They worked all these last years to position themselves to where ...
