>There are now 20 million PS3 owners out there, and I don't think any of those games even broke the 5 mil mark. That means 75% of PS3 owners missed them.

Don't forget rentals, used market and "borrowing from a friend" all account for people playing it without counting towards a purchase. Not alot of games break the 5 mil mark.

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if they were chewing a peace of gum when they said their piece.

Achievements and trophies are every bit a marketing tool for MS and Sony as they are an award for you. Why do you think Sony mandated that all games needed trophies by a certain date? Because they want gamers to feel special? No, because they are extra incentives to get the game and likewise the console. How many times have you heard gamers with both systems choose a game for one over the other simply for the achievements/trophies? What about the "known" games that are easy to ...

The problem is games have for the longest time been a series of cutscenes interspersed with gameplay. The 2 run counter to each other. You might watch a scene where it concludes you must rush to point A before something happens. The game may not have a timer and you could meander your way over to point A, take in the sites, even make a sandwich and come back. When you get to point A, they say "Whew, you just made it" and watch another cut scene.

Did Bioshock have ...

Look at any entertainment medium, it's all skewed towards men. When a movie contains nudity what do you expect it to be? It is almost always female breasts or derriers. What about advertising? How many times do you see commercials featuring sexy women, even if the product is gender neutral? If you were to believe advertising, every phone agent at every company is a young attractive blonde female just waiting to assist you.

Most games are geared towards males. There are so...

CD,

Yup,you got it right. Those "black sheep" scores whether good or bad can reflect on the overall aggregate and the assumption is all the reviewers interpret the range of scores the same. Which is not true. It is an unwritten guideline that 90-100 is excellent 80-90 is good 70-80 is avg. 60-70 is below avg. 0-60 is a poor game. But the problem is not all reviewers abide by that.

In Metacritics defense, big name titles usually have 40-50 or so sc...

and they stick a 'u' in color and behavior for some odd reason :). We're too lazy over here to keep adding in extra letters.

The problem isn't what magazines or websites he uses to count towards the overall score, but that the 10 point scale (or 100 if you will) is treated differently between reviewers. The "accepted" scale is about 6-10. 8 is an average game and anything 6 or lower is generally pretty bad. Alot of reviewers follow this type of scale so in a sense Metacritic works (through no fault of Metacritic). There are some that don't. At the risk of dredging up bad feelings, Edge (I won't even ...

What Nintendo doesn't mention is that if they weren't around that 300 million wouldn't have just evaporated from the equation. Granted it wouldn't be 300 million, no one can deny Nintendo is cleaning up this generation, but a portion of that (maybe 100 million?) would have been spent elsewhere in the industry on other consoles.

I think the people at Edge are getting a good chuckle out of all this if not so much spam in their email their eyes are bleeding.

I'm sure in the future they will make sure to give all PS3 exclusives a 9 or 10 to uphold their journalistic integrity or something like that.

He lost me somewhere around Rush Limbaugh, George Bush and Michael Richards.

Let's get this straight, this blog is a response to an article that is counter to a blog which is a rebuttal of a review? Holy smokes, sounds like a soap opera brewing (or has it already brewed?).

No one was this uppity when Afro Samurai got some tepid reviews.

In the end was he on Ben Fritz's side or Ben Durka's? At least he supported a Ben.

One small detail I thought as I was playing GOW II just a few weeks back (yes, for the first time) was they have to have T.C. Carson (the voice of Kratos) back for GOW III and it appears they do. I can't think of any more distinctive (and fitting) voice for a character than that and I can't imagine how they could replace him if he didn't do it.

There's nothing in gaming quite like swinging those chains around. Now we can do it in hi-def :)

What Todd Howard was saying when he said the Wii is like Cabbage Patch Kids or Teddy Ruxpin, is that parents view the Wii as the "it" toy. Why did everyone want CPKids back in the day? Not because they were so great, but because they were the current fad. The news talked about people fighting over them, kids talked about them. If you didn't have one you were out of the loop. Fast forward to present day and what do parents think kids want: A Wii (and a DS by a similar argument)...

Ah, the hypocrisy of MLB. How long ago did he take roids and how long has his name been on that list? Just now 6 years later it is coming to light? Do you think the managers, owners and baseball execs were so naive they didn't know 100's of players were juicing (heck, the had a list for 6 years)? Of course they knew, they turned a blind eye because they wanted super athletes who could set homerun records and win championships. The players juiced so they could keep up with the other playe...

The Prinny game isn't anything like the other Disgaea games. It's a platformer starring Prinnies, however if you like the universe you will probably enjoy it (not that I've seen it in action).

I'm trying to figure out how a bug in a DS game is pushing back the release of FFXIII? They said in an earlier statement this would have a ripple effect. Wouldn't they be 2 separate teams? Usually, a bug towards the end of a project involves a core group of people with specific knowledge of the problem to fix it. It usually doesn't require everyone.

The only thing I can think of is the QA team might have to postpone FFXIII testing to focus on this (if they are the same team...

Bladestar,

I stand corrected. You are right, there are alot more movies in general that are streamable then my queue. I must just have a list of new movies or ones they haven't made streamable yet.

I also picked up a few good ones from your list to add to mine ;)

How can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving.

In reality there is alot of money in this industry and alot of games' success or failure hinge on that magical number out of 10 (or 100). There is a delicate line between journalistic integrity and taking some kickbacks from the powers that be. Anyone can start up a website and become a "games journalist". If they can parlay that into a successful venture they may get notice from publishers and find t...
