So sony's the indie, amazingly under-estimated victim with no hype at all?
Wow... if it works and it's fun and is marketed like the ps3 has been all along it'll sell well, maybe even dominate. I can't believe that a 6-month old system that's selling really well despite it's price and only just developing game catalog has fans with a victim complex already.
There's a lot to this. Sony could certainly market it like Nintendo has... but I doubt most of the PS3 gamer...
Could be cool if it works correctly (lighting issues fixed, background movement ignored, etc.).
A comment at another site reporting this said it reminded him of some infrared tests Sony had done previously with a wand being tracked.
If, say a wand or other accessory could be tracked by color, temperature, a light radioactive coating, etc., it could really be a great innovation in control.
As to whether it rivals the wiimote... is it really that ...
Interesting.
I have no interest in seeing any format win.
All I care about is being able to play all the media I buy on one player. Whether that means that HDDvD or bluray dominates doesn't matter to me. If it's hybrid players, I'm up for that too. I'm platform agnostic because good movies (though rare) come from many studios.
Whereas with games I'm not agnostic. I do tend to like games with less violence that can be played with multiple people in...
Wow... there's so much of your comment that I agree with.
"Let Microsoft make the SDK, development studios and Network features. It's obvious that Microsoft experience making easy to use tools it's obvious between development against the PS3 and the xbox 360.
Let Sony make the hardware. It's obvious that Sony's experience making hardware that's reliable and durable. Not the PS1 or PS2... but the PS3 is well made..."
Microsoft has a lot of exp...
What he's really talking about is one compatibility standard, not one console.
If we want that it's already there, via Windows Compatibility.
So let's say that we used another standard and all these companies (Toshiba, Sony, MS, Nintendo, E-machines O_o, etc.) were using it. Then one would come out with a model with better shaders. Do you switch for a new one? The games would still run, just not as pretty without the shaders. So maybe replace the video card? The...
Doubt it. Too many egos.
Well said.
Nintendo has made some colossal mistakes in past gens. They seem to be learning a bit.
I love ducks, so I'm all for your username.
Let me say though, that while Microsoft has been bad with a monopoly, I haven't seen that Sony's been better even without a monopoly.
Rootkits, Atrac, memorystick, etc. are all examples of Sony trying to lock people into their products and protect their interests above those of consumers. They may be getting better after all of this (Bluray is fairly open) but a monopoly could be a nightmare. I'm not sure they've learn...
So you're going to take MS's comment on this as gospel?
It's a networked computer. Worms, etc. don't really care if it's on Live, the moment it's networked, it's vulnerable. Notice also that Microsoft said "generally" that's semantically equivalent to saying "we don't know" or "there's a little less than even odds". If I said, "you generally won't get shot in this neighborhood" would that really make you feel better? They used the most no...
Symantec warns about these sort of things on the Mac and Linux all the time too.
We've seen how well that works out.
hmmm... yeah, I'm sure Microsoft's tech is invulnerable to all of this.
How many vulnerabilities has windows had since 3.1? Oh yeah, one every 45 minutes for the last 12 years...
The difference is that Microsoft's getting into the security subscription business. So, in a way, you're right. You won't be paying Symantec for Norton, etc.
"Whitehouse said that as most games consoles are now connected to the internet, they might be just as vulnerable to hacks, viruses and phishing attacks as home computers."
"five years off"
Symantec just wants another sales vector. Might, might, might. Of course they might.
But phishing, seriously? Are you really going to go to your bank site or paypal via your wii? I love the opera browser, but I'm not going to constantly surf....
It's the next iteration of Nintendo's main video game hardware with definable differences from the last.
If you're going to have your own custom definition of what "next" and "generation" mean, then at least define them before posting. "Next" seems pretty clear to me. If I tell you to take the next bus and you look at the following bus and decide it looks too similar to be "next" then you'll end up pretty lost. Likewise, generation just m...
I like that they're finally doing this.
It does bring us back to storage space though... there's gotta be a way to hook a USB HDD up to this thing. Storing pics, games, etc off the main memory just seems inevitable. I know it makes content protection harder, but it'll allow so much more...
So... $9 each should be the price for current mini-games... hmmm... you'd be willing to pay that? I guess you're a big wii fan...
Wii Sports 5x$9=$45(free)
Wii Play 8or9x$9=$72-81($50 with Wiimote)*
Warioware hundreds....
Maybe there should be a required logic mini-game for everyone.
If you're saying that groups of mini-games should be that cheap, then I certainly hope Sony follows suit with REALPLAY...
*granted, I only...
Seems like NiGHTS will be a great fit on the Wii. I hope they drop the voiceover guy though... imagine him guiding you through the game, with an occasional advertisement... O_o
NiGHTS made me jealous back in the day, I wasn't sure about the Dreamcast, but I wanted that game. Panzer Dragoon was the same way.
I hope Galaxy will have the same draw.
Can't wait.
I see what they mean about it being it's own game and not 64's successor, but 64 had a feeling or mood with music, movement and setting that was very different from anything before or after. I'm open to this being it's own game, but having a feeling like that (all its own) would be welcome indeed.
I'm sure some are not good at games or like simple play. Others might not have the time in their lives for more gaming or might have several consoles and a pc to divide time between. I'm not sure skill level has much to do with it in the last two cases. Taste does though, and in that it's just like music, whatever makes the chemicals in your brain spark. For some people music is a passion with every artist being seen in the light of past masters. For some it's just a top 40 station to keep ...
"why do u care if nintendo makes money? how does that benifit u if u aint got no games?
me i dont care aslong as the company doesnt go under and we get a bunch of games, i'd rather sony be 2nd place but have the best games. sorry guys but im a gamer, not a stock broker."
What you mean is, "How does that benefit you if you haven't got any games that you care about?" Of course it'd suck if nintendo didn't have any games. But that's not the probl...
It'd be interesting to see how that could be implemented without evoking wiimote comparisons...
