It definitely does matter. The ps3 os is optimize for the threading that the cell excels at. The os is going to affect how things are processed, how large the free memory footprint is, etc. It makes a huge difference.
Like how something like Unreal works on Vista vs. Linux. Night and day.

Nope. I'm not forgetting that older gamers can buy their own consoles. That's apparent. What hasn't been apparent to me is this new trend of gamers having their own little private christmas party for themselves. Face it, no one buys themselves a console for christmas. They are different consoles but they compete for the same consumer dollars. That's what this analogy lacks... Halo may be good now, but star wars is still remembered fondly 40 years later (even in spite of George Lucas' sillyness). Maybe Halo will be remembered that way.
I doubt it though. It's just my opinion, but halo is visceral and "now" not lasting and resonate. It's fun. People will look back on it the way they now look back at Mad Max, Platoon or other action blockbusters, etc. Fun, even great for its time, but not a timeless classic.

There's a difference in not being able to tell the difference and being satisfied. Most people don't have 1080p's, so they're not going to appreciate that quality jump. When you add over 50 inches... well, I think you just proved the point.
