I'm not really arguing that some of them aren't masterpieces. (Though I'd definitely argue that at least 2 or 3 of those aren't) What I'm saying is that the "need" to buy things regardless of price is put on us by marketing and a materialistic mindset. That's so close to addiction that it's scary sometimes.
"p.s. about buying ps3, after mgs4, ffxiii, gt5, kz2 releases, ps3 will be a must have console for many many gamers. Price just won`t matter, but well, it wil...
"Masterpiece"
It's called addiction, my friend. ;)
Nothing wrong with that. I used to be addicted, but I found it was taking too much of my time. Of course I play games. I'm just not ruled by them.
Anyway. Some of those games sound great. Particularly FF and any Ico games. I'm just going to wait (like a ton of other people) til the ps3 is much cheaper as well as the games. I'll get the ps3 and ten or twelve "masterpiece" games f...
Some of us aren't that compulsive.
I have a lot of other things to spend my money on. My wife needs a new notebook (she's a designer, so a macbook of some sort seems to be a good idea). I'd like to get a nice telescope. I'd like to upgrade to a better guitar.
I love gaming, but a lot of the huge audience that the ps2 gained put a ton of things before the ps2. They'll continue to do that. If it were cheaper they'd jump on quicker.
It's not a matter ...
5.5 million given the release dates (Pal territories were behind a few months) gives us about 420k-430k worldwide monthly averages. So we're talking about a 400-450% increase.
Slightly daunting.
These sorts of predictions are precisely what sony doesn't need.
They're not doing as well as they like, but a more modest prediction is best. If they do better than modest, then their stock shoots up. If they fail this it falls.
I'm sorry. This is near ridiculous. I'd like Sony to do well so the hardware gets cheaper and I can justify buying one, but this is not the sort of thing you predict. It's very damaging.
Getting closer.
I'll be waiting for the sub-$250 days, just like most of the 120 million ps2 base.
I'd have thought the percentage would be higher.
Looks like things are better in the world of pc repair than I thought. :D
I'm gonna be an optimist from now on. :)
I don't believe it.
My theory: Neither will win (but both will survive).
Cheap hd-dvd players will reduce BD's current lead. (It's not really that large, given that we're talking about such a small population of adopters) Furor will break out when new adopters on both sides realize that that they can't play/buy certain blockbusters on their player. A few will get ticked and buy another format, but most will start looking for dual format players. These will drop t...
Thanks for posting. Looks great.
I've had a lot of fun with this inexpensive purchase. I'll be buying the next one at full price.
“Casual people who have no idea what "progressive" means aren't going to buy a High Def Player, be it BLURAY or HD-DVD. People aren't buying CHEAP ENTRY LEVEL PRODUCTS for their home theaters either.. they are getting ENTRY LEVEL products, but they aren't $299.99. We all know you get what you pay for. This is a pathetic attempt at trying to sucker more people into buying terrible hardware.”
Progressive scan is not a new thing. I doubt people are suddenly learn what it...
From the comments on the source:
"There's a Blue Dragon anime which is shown on Saturday mornings at 9am ie the children time slot. The art on the flyer is also from the anime and not the game. Thus this is not surprising."
So no, this is probably not a MS tie-in. It's probably just a tie-in to a popular anime series that has nothing to do with the 360.
I agree that people jump on this too quickly. Though the original zune was a marketing nightmare, it did have some good features. It's hard though. There were a lot of other players with as many features (like iriver, etc.). Competing with Apple requires an approach that's more than just addition of features.
"question... did you know that Zune is the 2-3rd in terms of marketshares after the ipod and came out less than 1 year ago? what does that tell us about you? I think ...
Doubt it.
You don't want thousands of people walking around in stores with $300 to not be able to spend their money on your product. It's better to maybe keep one on the shelf at the very least. If nintendo could have had them in stock everywhere they would have.
The only people who want to make things look hotter like this are people who aren't selling consoles. Earlier this year a certain exec took this stance.
Sure, it can be done on a computer.
The thing is, that makes the customer come to you... it's better to go to them. I'm not sure they are more comfortable downloading a trailer they don't know about either. This is information constantly available that the customer is very likely be interested in. They don't have to sign up or search. It's available the moment they insert the dvd they paid for.
So I agree with you that it's already available. I don't agree that ...
The rush to buy PSP's for FF is hurting ds and wii sales.
Good for Sony.
However, the psp will slow and the DS and the Wii will jump right back up. It's not a matter of one console over another so much as a matter of only so many entertainment dollars being out there. Just like the ps2 and psp hurt the ps3 somewhat. Sure, sony still gets the bucks (more than on the ps3 actually) but lower marketshare causes software problems. Look at the charts. Overall spending ...
...and that would be a good idea.
The updates and extra downloadable features are a great idea. People will love it. For example, you buy Spiderman 3 and your BD player starts it up one night and receives a message that the new Spiderman 4 trailer is available. So it asks you, "Would you like to watch the new S4 trailer?" Instant advertisement to your target audience. Photos from the set could also be included and news. Great idea.
But that's not why th...
Seems like you have a good time at it.
Windows can be setup well and be secure and Linux can certainly be hacked, though it's not nearly as easy.
The thing is... why bother. Most people just need a word processor and a web browser (the 95% you quote). Linux, Mac, BSD and many others do that fine and without any major security issues by default.
It's much more peaceful. I manage windows boxes all day. At night it feels great to boot into linux or op...
Hmmm... I agree with about half of the list. I think the rest depend on what sort of user you are. Powerusers certainly benefit from some of those.
1. Most users have never opened a terminal on their XP/2k/Vista box.
2. Repositories are a nice feature and updates/patches are very much less dangerous than on Windows.
3. Cutting and pasting is all about what you're used to. I use the keyboard almost exclusively for it.
4. Addressed in 2.

The ps2 is a great example.
The least advanced hardware won. It happens that way most of the time, because hardware < games. Once all three have been out more than two years we'll know.
"Are you scared of books?"
no, not exactly: http://kholinar.listal.com/
Though I would be if I went without food, hurt or robbed someone for them.
If price doesn't matter then sony underpriced it.
Again, not saying these aren't great. Just not worth "any price".
