Tsk, tsk... he made the mistake of saying that casual gaming is good for everyone.

Seriously, Dude, "everyone" knows that casual means the end of all things for the hardcore. Companies are obviously going to take that extra money, slash their hardcore lines and cater to the casuals.

Who cares if you get laid when it means there's no Bioshock 2?

The truth is that you can't have it both ways. Attach rate means that companies are still makin...

"i thought all business follow what consumers want but in paramounts case they follow greed and money"

Ummm... no.

Businesses follow what their shareholders want:

Money

Now many times the way to make money is to do what consumers want, but just as often it's not.

For example... I like to rip my cd's to my ipod and I like to format my usb thumb drives and make them completely empty before I use them. Sony does...

I don't like the format wars. I'd rather have dual format players become the norm, so I can acknowledge the issue here. (Though Blu-ray would be doing the same thing if their spec had this issue)

However... this is Blades of Glory...

Does anyone other than Will Ferrel's mother (if she's an audiophile) care if it's in Lossless PCM? Transformers I can see... but Blades of Glory?

It's like demanding that the Night Court TV series be re-released with a...

One that very few people mention is Super Swing Golf... it's a great golf game with a challenging backend. Of course, you've got to get your mind around the anime influenced characters...

The only downside is the putting, but the long shots are more golf-like than Tiger.

"Apple, Hitachi, Dell, Buena Vista, Pioneer, Philips, TDK, Panasonic, Mitsubishi Electric, Fox, Sony, Sony BMG, Sony Pictures, Samsung, Lionsgate, Thomson, Sharp and Walt Disney. With Warner still showing support. Consumers trust these brands. Look up Microsoft brand trust. Then Toshiba. Sony, Dell, and HP
top the list!"

Samsung, LG, Pioneer, Toshiba, HP (at the very least) are all producing players for both formats.

Most consumers are just goin...

Excellent reply.

A lot of manufacturing numbers are massaged precisely like you mentioned.

A processor may perform as some company says, for example, but only at temps close to absolute zero while immersed in liquid nitrogen...

Please keep in mind that I'm not a fan of Sony or MS's console. I think they have some beautiful games, but I'm not anxious to own either at this point. If someone handed me money I might buy a PS3 simply to run linux on it.

Given all that, your analysis is inaccurate.

There's a lot more than pure processing power to be considered here. Bus speed, memory size, how fast all of the hardware interacts and how well the drivers are written.

GFLOPS have ...

A highly-paid and prestigious monkey is still a monkey.

Still, even monkeys get it right once in a while.

Usually people like this are not hired for their accuracy, rather their ability to "stimulate" or manipulate the market. I would say that his work history qualifies his statements as marketing, not analysis. Anyone should know that marketing has nothing to do with accuracy, but rather "perceived accuracy".

Right now it's more expensive.

Most people aren't even interested right now, so it's really a moot point.

Dual Format is the best solution for consumers, and if the timing of mass adoption is a couple of years away, then all that has to happen is for hd-dvd to fight a delaying game and rely on an appreciable amount of sales.

It's all so silly. For all we know a new, cheaper and more convenient media format could hit the market and make this all a n...

wow... such a narrow definition.

Does playing with pretend, onscreen guns qualify then?

It's all plastic, really.

I care, but not about Gaming on the Mac. I just like to come home to my Mac or Linux PC and not have to worry about virii, spyware, etc. since I work securing and fixing people's computers all day. It's a great feeling. I could care less what games run on it.

So yeah...

Not in hardware, it's on the level with anything out there. Just in gaming support.

If you think that there's PC hardware out there that makes the 8-core Xeon Mac Pro with an Nvidia Quatro FX 4500 and 16gb of ram look like a gamecube, you're ignorant.

So yes, it's exactly the same issue. Poor developer support, and the tools to create them are out there and easy to use.

Exactly.

They matter, but other things always matter much more.

If a game has great graphics, lousy gameplay, bad story, etc. then the graphics do nothing for it. If a game has great gameplay, a great plot, interesting world, but not that great of graphics etc. Well, basically we're talking about every great game that's been made in past gens. The graphics world is still not on the other side of the uncanny valley (

Paraphrasing: Next Gen is about new experiences.

I'd agree.

I think your advice to Sony is the key for all.

Granted, MS needs to continue to make their hardware problems disappear...

I'll state the obvious. Forgive me. This is duh... Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo will win with Killer Apps(tm). Sony and Nintendo have great potential in this area. With games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus last gen Sony did some really creative things. Doing things like that again may make an innovative game that is not just a cult, medi...

We'll see.

If the new eyetoy is truly "sixaxis"(x-y-z) 3d, and doesn't get confused by friends, pets, ceiling fans, then kudos to sony.

Until it proves that it's only cooler hype.

People were just as vocal about how the wiimote might be perfectly implemented.

6864d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Sorry, Sony did. Apparently they disagree with you.

Also, saying something is or has more of anything is a comparison.

You know what? This is a market battle. There are only so many dollars out there and each company wants them. Saying "it's not next gen," or "it's got more potential, shouldn't be compared" doesn't amount to anything when someone's getting ready to buy a console for Christmas.

I hope that doesn't sound hostile....

That tends to be my gut reaction. I'd love for this to work, but...

We just don't know. Right now it's all marketing. Until there's a product we can't know if issues have been resolved or not.

If... and this is a big IF... if they've been even mostly resolved then this is a world-class piece of tech.

Not saying that Sony couldn't... just that the odds are bad.
