"In the other had when you talk of overpriced the perfect example is the iPhone which was sold for around 100 to 200 more of what it costs to manufacture which was (or is) a cost the seller shouldn't make the consumers pay in order for the seller to make profit faster"
The difference being that Sony overcharges on their games. So where Apple has a 30% margin on hardware, Sony aims for 80% on software. What's the difference? The iphone comes with it's software (OS X) i...
Do you really think they have any chance? Seriously asking here...
In my mind, the ipod owned style, footprint, ease of use, market-share and mind-share. The only things they didn't own were non-essential features.
Now it's hardly even conceivable that ms could do anything. Some of the other mp3 player companies maybe, but ms?
No, it's not a business phone. That's why apple hasn't gone after that market.
That's not to say that most business users need more than that iphone provides. Which is why it's doing alright in business.
FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.
This is just consumer analysis. I'm not sure why that'd be fearful.
The ipod is $400 btw. You may know that.
You may also know that a lot of people use the iphone for business and make money with it.
Like so many have said, it depends on your values. I'd spend on the iphone before the ps3, because I could use it at work and write it off as a tax deduction. We've all got our reasoning.
exactly... an $8 cd is overpriced to the same demographic as hardcore gamers, yet they'll pay $60 for a game.
What exactly would they port it from? lol
The logic astounds me...
That's fun.
Here's an example of my post below. Because someone doesn't value a piece of hardware they make a value judgement. The truth is that none of this is objective. Everyone can live without this. Therefore none of these products have an objective value... only a subjective value determined by the market.
Selling consoles at a loss has spoiled gamers. They want the bleeding edge for less than cost. What they don't see is that, unless they buy no software,...
It all depends on your values. If you're not a gamer, then it's an expensive piece of garbage according to your own value system. The fact that it has expensive parts and features that you don't want doesn't justify it for many people. (Not even parents, regardless of how many kids are in their basements, actually basement dwellers find such things more affordable in general... no expenses=disposable income)
I find high-end SUVs to be a waste. I have no use for them. Others mig...
Developers are pragmatic.
They're interested in anyone who'll hand them money. Developers don't care if you take the game home and use it as a coaster, so long as they get a cut of the $60. So now they're in maintenance mode with you as the frumpy housewife who cooks them dinner while they woo the cute chicks...
But don't let me stop you with that nice dream you've got going. I love surveys from marketing conglomerates that won't let you see their "facts&quo...
This is more due to the drought of good Teen or less rated games this gen than correlation of any trend. Certainly there's something to the sex/violence sells thing, but that's not the end of it.
Xbox has the most games and it's hard to name more than a few non-MA titles that are decent in their lineup...
The last report like this said online was the common thread, and this one disagrees... find a viewpoint and you can skew a stat to support it.
...
I think it could make sense, but that it wouldn't matter even if it is true.
There's a lot to think about in getting that sort of statistic together though.... For example, are we just talking about total time powered on per console? Cause that might definitely say the sort of thing that Shadow Flare is implying. Do we count time per person, per console? Because that might not be so favorable, given that larger groups using the wii would rack up more individual time in the time...
One or two weeks of lower sales that are still higher by far than all competitors is not indicative of anything. Two or three months? That might indicate a trend.
How are other consumer goods outside the gaming industry doing in Japan. There's a lot more to a market than one section of sales trends...
Probably more like 20 to 1 at this point, which is still higher than what we're used to.
Whether they're moving to that is hard to speculate. I really doubt it though. Eventually parents do get tired of constant peripherals. These are just launch goodies.
Someone in another post on this said the real fun in this is with mapping both controllers' movements around a fixed center. I'm inclined to agree. This might make even more complex wiimote functions more viable...
I agree with the above response. Well thought out and researched. Kudos on that account.
I don't agree with your conclusion, however. There's a lot to be said for objective measures. Unfortunately these are games and if the sum of a game's parts made it great, then it would be easy to create great games. As it is, many of the best games and worst games have something about them that does not equal the sum of their parts. Sometimes there's just no magic, no vibe, no fun...
Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're not so narrow-minded), women have the buying power to trump the hardcore.
This isn't a new thing, brought on by the wii or whatever. ALL the publishers, hardware makers, etc. have been trying for this audience since the NES days. They've done a lousy job until now. You'd better bet everyone who isn't just slow or suicidally stubborn will follow.
@Catastrophe - True. Women will welcome depth as much as anyone. Whether or no...
He'll party like it's 9999... errr... then the Y1M bug will hit?
The two things aren't mutually exclusive. The only difference between monopolistic practices and unethical practices is the size of your market and corporation.
Even Nintendo has had its draconian days. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Sony certainly hasn't shown a consumer-friendly attitude up until now, and Blu-ray isn't any more consumer fair use friendly than HD-DVD. When they're losing Sony's conside...
I'm going to have to disagree.
The largest population with 80-90 percent of the disposable income is baby boomers. These are the same people who can't set their vcr clocks.
They're not confused, they're lost completely. This will surely be an impediment to adoption.
I posted this in the other thread, but it's still interesting to me...
Someone said that the real fun in this is with mapping both controllers' movements around a fixed center. I'm inclined to agree. This might make even more complex wiimote functions more viable... such as sword swinging or bayonet stabbing/hitting someone with the butt of your rifle. Imagine a Final Fantasy game with real-time battling using gunblades. yeah...
