it's cool, man. We all do it sometimes.

In fact, it's a frequent past-time on this site, or anywhere else for that matter.

What's not as common is admitting it. Bubbles. I've been wrong bunches of times here. Shoot, I went around talking about COD4 for the wii and its control scheme when I meant Medal of Honor. (I'll admit I'm not really into FPS's) I'm sure people were like "what's he going on about?" I also didn't know the full specs of the 360 arcade...

That'd be something.

Definitely plus on the ram though. At least 4gb if you've got 2 cells. I love the ps3's specs, but 128mb per SPU is a bit silly.

"It doesn't matter that the most of the components are "easy" to make as some haters would suggest"

Exactly.

Ramping production entails much greater investments. That's one thing I really agree with in this article. It's not like you just double cost to double production... it's a lot more expensive than that, and nintendo has always been extremely conservative business wise.

As someone in the Slashdot thread also said... Ninten...

There was an excellent Slashdot post about this topic, seems worth repeating:

"The Wii is the fastest selling console in history, and is currently selling at about four times the rate of the Xbox 360. Is it that hard to believe that sales are genuinely exceeding expectations? Certainly at launch time, very few of the pundits or fanboys were seriously predicting sales of this magnitude. Also, Nintendo has been increasing production significantly - from 1M to 1.8M per month....

"If PS3 owners are not buying blu ray movies then where are all the Disks sales coming from?"

They are.

6 million vs. 750k. Divide 6mil by 750k and you get 8 bluray players/ps3's for every 1 hd-dvd player. So if hd-dvd players' attach ratio was a lousy 2, then br would only need an attach rate of .5 to outsell them 2 to 1. Put whatever numbers you want in there. If player sales are 8 to 1, then an movie sales at 2 to 1 means that hd-dvd has 4 times the ...

ummm... no.

It means that HD-DVD would be a memory if ps3 owners bought 3-4 disks per system.

30% buy 4 or more. That's 2 million that have a strong attach rate with their player. That's also 3 times as many players as hd-dvd. Yet the sales figures are not much more than 2 to 1.

It means that attach rates are generally low across the board. But it doesn't take this study to let anyone know that. Just the 2 to 1 sales rate is an easy indicator.

Actually it's not too bad. 3.33% margin of error. It's not that hard really because we're only talking about ps3 owners here. If we were talking about Americans in general you'd need much bigger numbers because you'd have a lot more demographics to poll and thus need larger sample sizes for each.

600-1600 is fine for a group like this... it also fits the overall BR attach rate.

"I own none of each. I rent everything from Gamefly and Netflix"

That's valid. It's very possible to care and not buy.

From the viewpoint of the industry, however, you don't care.

Most likely people just agreed with the idea and approved without even looking at the link.

This happens all the time here. Then you have people with bogus reports because they don't like the article.

It's really sad because this site could be so much better, but there's way too much immaturity in the process.

Anyway, I agree with shutting her up, but that's because I think she's exploiting gamer mindsets, not because I think she's hurting the indu...

ha.... yeah, fun.

Actually though, (if the width/height is consistent) this is 4 times the lines but 16 times the total data. Just like 1080p is a little more than 2 times the lines but four times the resolution.

So I doubt this will be on BR, anytime soon. Time for holographic media.

No amount of joy from the ps3 is worth that... :(

So what would a 5 represent?

6658d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Perfection is not possible.

The problem is that you have to go on a scale that is possible.

So if a 10 is not possible, then a 9.9 becomes the new ten. It's a cycle that can't be broken. Better to just understand that a 10 means an exceptional game with very few depreciating flaws....

"when somewhere it states "no information" it doesn't mean anything good in the most cases. Companies do alwyas their best to inform people about their good doings and keep quiet when it's something bad."

Exactly. But it doesn't look like Greenpeace even asked or looked. They just went to one web page and compiled a report.

This is the equivalent of me saying that LBP won't be released because it doesn't have a release date. (Or any game for ...

"Greenpeace is an essential force in the battle against overwhelming corporate irresponsibility."

Greenpeace is, by definition, a corporation. So what I have to ask in reference to that statement is, "Where are they being held to corporate responsibility?"

Go to the article, download the pdf. Open it. Now in most cases the areas say no information (as stated above). In cases where it doesn't say that, the only reference substantiating their c...

yeah, this is not a new job posting...

If the were hiring it wouldn't indicate anything about LBP's status, though I wish we were getting a few more teasers at this point. I really want this game.

Meh... Greenpeace's Scores for corporations automatically drop in proportion to their popularity at the time. So with Nintendo at huge highs it's expected that they'd give them terrible scores. My faves are the ones where they weigh what a company's public plan in disposal as highly as the company's actual pollution. The company can have great policies, but if they're not public then greenpeace attacks.

Much like with Apple, the whole thing was about their lack of public plans ...

"Educational features?
Yeah I can really see the sense of that. A teacher invites her pupils to watch this video over the network. She calls them and asks "Are you paying attention to the screen? You sure?""

I'd hope, if she's competent, that she'd just give them a test the next day on the things in the video and the chat logs. I've never seen a teacher in anything older than third grade walking around harping at her students to ask if they're paying ...

The articles are getting tiring.

I do wish people would use FUD correctly, however. If you disagree with this article you could categorize its statements as disinformation. FUD is something completely different and is not being used here.

Now, people posting that "BR will survive no matter what, but Hd-dvd may not..." that's FUD. It creates "F"ear/"U" ncertainty/"D"oubt using an unproven unknown which may affect a buying de...

"Even a retard would pick more of something(in this case, space) then less. Dont believe me? give a retard a choice between 1 scoop of ice cream and 2 scoops. Im pretty sure he/she will pick the 2 scoops."

Great metaphor.

So he'll still pick the 2 scoops at four times the price? Yeah, I suppose some people would do that.

Of course, a lot of people have some restraint and pay for what they're hungry for instead of being wasteful. Some can...
